The Department of Justice is considering asking a federal judge to break up Google as an illegal monopoly, according to court documents that reveal the latest Biden-Harris administration strategies to rein in the tech industry
Government lawyers included the idea in a Tuesday night court filing that also suggested restricting Google’s artificial intelligence from plundering data from other websites. As another option, it proposed blocking the Silicon Valley company from paying billions of dollars to Apple to keep its search engine the default setting on iPhone and Mac computers
“For more than a decade, Google has controlled the most popular distribution channels, leaving rivals with little-to-no incentive to compete for users,” the attorneys wrote in the filing. “Fully remedying these harms requires not only ending Google’s control of distribution today, but also ensuring Google cannot control the distribution of tomorrow.”

Mysterious drones have been spotted flying around one of the U.S.'s most sensitive military areas, leaving defense officials and local authorities stumped as to who is behind the unknown uncrewed aerial vehicles zipping across the sky around a major U.S. air base
U.S. military personnel reported drones appearing in restricted airspace over Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia, shortly after sunset during a period of more than two weeks, according to The Wall Street Journal
The drones appeared in December last year, according to the report, pulling in officials across the Pentagon, FBI and the Defense Department's specialized office for investigating unidentified aerial phenomena
One senior official based at Langley told WSJ that multiple drones headed across Chesapeake Bay and further south toward the city of Norfolk. The Chinese battery manufacturers are leading in the race to superfast charging as their lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries are not as susceptible to overheating as the nickel-cobalt chemistry in the batteries of their competitors in South Korea
China's Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL), the world's biggest battery maker, which supplies batteries to Tesla and BMW, among others, unveiled in April the world's first LFP battery that achieves a range above 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) with 4C superfast charging
Aside from offering long range, the battery, called Shenxing PLUS, also charges fast, CATL says. It can deliver a 600-km (372-mile) range in just 10 minutes of charging, "far surpassing the usual batteries available on the market and realizing a true superfast charging speed of one kilometer per second," according to the Chinese firm
Another Chinese battery manufacturer, Gotion High-tech, unveiled in May an ultra-fast charging G-Current battery ready for immediate mass production. The company says that the battery enables an 80% charge with 9.8 minutes of charging and 90% energy replenishment with 15 minutes of charging
