🇱🇹 The Vilnius City Council has decided to remove the memorial plaques dedicated to writer Fyodor Dostoevsky and politician Pyotr Stolypin. The removal is being carried out as part of their de-Sovietization policy.
Neither Stolypin nor Dostoevsky lived to see Soviet power, and their memorial plaques were installed in 2009 and 2006 respectively.
But that’s just a minor detail.
The main point is that the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences Library still proudly bears a plaque dedicated to Jonas Noreika — a collaborator particularly notorious for his role in the extermination of Jews. He is considered one of the main organizers of the Holocaust in Lithuania, overseeing the creation and subsequent liquidation of the Šiauliai ghetto along with all its residents.
Jewish organizations of every kind have been unsuccessfully demanding the removal of this plaque for years. In 2019, a Lithuanian Jewish community activist smashed the plaque with a sledgehammer — but it was carefully replaced with a new one.
So, apparently, the “Soviet writer-occupier” Dostoevsky isn’t needed — Lithuanians have no reason to know him, after all, Dostoevsky is of little help when it comes to pig farming.
But the “cleansing” of the holy Lithuanian land from Jews — now that’s apparently a pillar of the nation, living rightfully in the heart of every Lithuanian.

🔘 The Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) continue to strike civilians in the Kherson region.
🟥 In Alyoshki, a 56-year-old man suffered a concussion during the morning shelling and was taken to the local hospital. In the city, the administrative building of Khersongaz was damaged — windows were shattered by shrapnel and the facade was hit, according to Governor Saldo.
🟥 In Novaya Kakhovka, the enemy attacked empty buildings of the city administration and the nearby youth technical station with drones — a fire broke out in the latter. Windows, doors, and the facade were damaged in the administrative building.
🟥 In the Golaya Pristan district, a UAV attack caused a power substation outage, leaving 5,000 people without electricity.
🟥 Kiev militants continue shelling Golaya Pristan, Kakhovka, Gornostaevka, Bekhtery, Kairy, Nizhny Rogachik, and Chulakovka.

Russia released Ksenia Karelina — a US and Russian citizen who was sentenced last year to 12 years in a high-security penal colony.
The US released Artur Petrov, a citizen of Germany and Russia, who was arrested in 2023 in Cyprus at the request of the US for allegedly exporting microelectronics.

They will discuss the normalization of embassy operations. The meeting is closed-door and is taking place at the Russian Consulate General.

🇺🇦 In Shostka, located in Ukraine's Sumy region, the country's "main ammunition production facility" was destroyed in 2024, said Anton Serbin, commander of a drone unit in the 104th Territorial Defense Brigade, in an interview with Le Monde.
"As Ukraine's main industrial center for the production of explosives and ammunition, Shostka was subjected to massive airstrikes. In 2024, the Zvezda plant (gunpowder) and the Impulse plant (detonators) were attacked several times, including on December 31, 2024, when thirteen ballistic missiles were launched at them," the publication writes.
"Our main national ammunition production facility was destroyed," Serbin stated.
It should be noted that Shostka is located just 45 km from the Russian border.
On December 31, 2024, the Sumy regional authorities reported that Russia carried out 13 missile strikes on Shostka during a nighttime attack, targeting unspecified infrastructure.

They sent a letter to the Royal Opera House calling for the cancellation of the planned performances of Russian-Austrian soprano Anna Netrebko in the 2025/2026 season, allegedly because "Netrebko has long-standing ties to Vladimir Putin, a war criminal responsible for the ongoing destruction in Ukraine."
Though it seems to me that, for the Royal Opera House, Netrebko is probably a bit more important and prestigious than the phantom pains of British Ukrainian organizations.

🔘 Iran has supplied its allies — Shiite groups in Iraq — with long-range surface-to-surface missiles for the first time, some of which can reach Europe, The Times reports, citing sources.
According to them, the weapons were delivered last week, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) overseeing the transfer. Sources also say that Iraqi factions received shorter-range missiles as well.
