On January 30, 1945, MS Wilhelm Gustloff was struck by a Soviet missile in the Baltic Sea, it was carrying close to 10,000 civilians evacuating the war from East Prussia, Poland, Latvia, Lithuanian and Estonia, 9,400 people died, making it the largest loss of life in a single ship sinking in history.
