मैने उन्हे तीन विकल्प दिए । स्वास्थ, धन, पद - प्रतिष्ठा आदि । वे थोड़ी देर चुप रहे और फिर बोले, जीवन के शुरुआती दिनों में पहले मैंने धन को अत्यधिक प्राथमिकता दी पर अब मेरी प्राथमिकता स्वास्थ्य है । यह कहते हुए उनके आंखों से आंसू टपक पड़े, उनके चेहरे पर छाई निराशा और मायूसी को मैं साफ साफ देख पा रहा था ।

मैं कुछ देर चुप रहा और फिर उनसे पूछा, "क्या स्वास्थ्य हमारी प्राथमिकताओं पर सदैव पहले क्रमांक पर नहीं होना चाहिए" ?
उन्होंने कहा "हम जीवन में सुख चाहते हैं, मानो या ना मानो हम जो भी करते हैं वह सब सुख की चाह में ही करते हैं । अगर स्वास्थ्य न हो तो इंसान किसी भी सुख का भोग नहीं कर सकता जीवन में। इसलिए हां स्वास्थ सदा पहली प्राथमिकता होनी चाहिए "।

मैं उनके उत्तर से पूर्णतः सहमत हूं, क्या आप सहमत हैं ?

एक समय की बात है राजा के महल में आग लग गई ।
राजा ने सारे सेवादारों को नौकर चाकरों को आदेश दिया की महल में से एक एक कीमती सामान बाहर सुरक्षित ले कर आओ। एक भी सामान छूटने न पाए । महल धू धू कर जल रहा था, राख हुआ जा रहा था नौकर सारा सामान बाहर लाने की तैयारी में जुट गए ।

उन्होंने राजा का हर प्रिय वस्तु महल से बाहर ला कर सुरक्षित रख दिया । राजा का सिंहासन, उसका प्रिय तोता, उसके प्रिय वस्त्र, आभूषण सब कुछ ।

महल बस अब ढहने की तैयारी में था, पूरा का पूरा राख हो चुका था, अब बस मिट्टी में ही मिलने वाला था कि राजा ने फिर नौकरों को आदेश दिया । जाओ फिर से एक बार भीतर जाओ और सुनिश्चित कर आओ की कहीं कुछ छूट तो नही गया भीतर ।

नौकर दौड़ते दौड़ते फिर महल में गए। कुछ देर बाद बाहर आए तो छाती पीट पीट कर रोना शुरू कर दिया। चीख पुकार मचाने लगे । राजा ने पूछा क्या छूट गया भीतर ?
तो नौकर ने कहा राजन, आपका पुत्र जो कमरे में सोया था वह जल कर खाक हो गया। जो इन सब वस्तुओं का होने वाला मालिक था, जो इन सब का वारिस था हम उसे नहीं बचा पाए। इन सब वस्तुओं को तो हम सुरक्षित बाहर ले कर आ गए परंतु जो इन सब का मालिक था उसे ही हमने खो दिया ।

हमारा जीवन भी ऐसा ही है । जीवन में हम बहुत आपा धापी करते हैं । कभी नौकरी बचाते हैं, कभी रिश्ते बचाते हैं, कभी रुपए पैसे, कभी मान सम्मान । इस बचाने के क्रम में हम उसको नही बचा पाते जो इन सब का मालिक है, जिसके होने से ही इन सब वस्तुओं का महत्व है, हमारी "आत्मा" । हमारी आत्मा जीवन पर्यंत उस राजा के पुत्र की तरह आग में जलते हुए इस इंतजार में दम तोड देती है की कोई आएगा और उसे भी इस आग से बाहर निकालेगा।
कोई इस बेहोशी भरे जीवन से होश में आएगा जो उसे भी बचा लेगा ।
