In all seriousness, we've had a few people link us YouTube videos covering popular compromises by Threat Actors in a YouTube video essay-like format. It's really cool stuff — we're glad people are creating cool content designed for everyday normal people so they can get a glimpse in the cybersecurity ecosystem.
However, from our perspective, we can't watch these cybersecurity and/or malware related videos. It's like, we post about malware online, we do malware stuff for work-work, we do VXUG work, we research malware, collect malware, discuss malware, write malware, reverse malware, meme malware, cover malware news. Malware is our lives.
If malware seeps into our tiny little safe space of YouTube brain rot, we might all collectively end up in a psychiatric facility.

Security researcher gentoo_python discovered a Prompt Injection on VirusTotal.
Could this be used as a form of social engineering to trick users into thinking a file is safe when it's not?

It's not 1991 anymore. It's 2025. "Hackers" (the name is butchered, makes me uncomfortable), aren't compromising places to explore. If they want to explore, they'll watch a YouTube essay or browse Wikipedia.
They want money (or to be a nuisance)

Читать полностью…A long time ago we posted "we need more women writing malware" and Infosec people lost their mind.
They immediately proclaimed writing malware is a crime. They called us bad names. They compared it to "we need more female killers".
The very people who say "hAcKeRs aRe MiSunDeRsTooD" and "HAcKiNg iSnT a CrImE" picked on us, imposing the same fate "hacking" once had.
Interestingly, some of those people who insulted us, mocked us, called us bad names, are now suddenly for "maldev" and malware research. It's interesting that when we were unpopular and small, we were an easy target and picked on.
Now that we're one of the largest infosec social media profiles, suddenly maldev and malware research is cool.
They seem to have forgotten. We haven't forgotten.
AI is Pandora's Box.
Once LLMs got popular, all the evils of the world, such as sickness, death, and suffering, were unleashed onto the world.
Unlike Pandora's Box, we cannot shut down AI. We have no hope.

I'd guesstimate 99.9% of malware we find is generic trash. By trash I mean recycled techniques, same ol' code, maybe they'll put a spin on it and write it in Rust, or Go, or Zig, or doo-doo-kaka-blim-blam — whatever language is trending.
