We are in genera in need of docs contributors. We have already updated our entry regarding this (https://docs.wasabiwallet.io/using-wasabi/BitcoinFullNode.html#how-does-wasabi-use-your-bitcoin-full-node) but will provide more details soon. We will also make a new release soon to improve this connection, handling cases for example where you want to connect to a distant node being runned by a node service provider or under a .onion

Note that in this case, you can switch backends directly from the Settings -> Connections -> Backend URI. Known backend providers are:
- https://api. opencoordinator .org/
- https://api. gingerwallet .io/
- https://coinjoin. kruw .io/

You can also use your own node

Finally, we are working on removing completely the dependency on the backend to avoid such cases in the future

That will be helpful for non super savy tech plebs, if you may give a look to umbrel core node interface and settings I think many requirements are already there to use, but the language barrier create confusion.

You don't need a backend if you have a full node providing filters. We are hard at work to make sure that filters can be provided in a decentralized manner, and therefore remove completely the need for a central backend

You have to configure your node to provide compact filters with blockfilterindex=1 and expose your node RPC to allow Wasabi to connect to it.

Once connected to your own node Wasabi doesn't need the backend anymore and the UX is much much better
