US Government Shutdown Risks - Impact ?
- Risk of a US government shutdown is rising ahead of the Dec-20 (Friday) deadline
- Last night, a Trump-backed plan to fund the government failed
- If there is no continuing resolution (CR) passed by Friday, most federal operations will shut down on Saturday
- Any bill will very likely need bipartisan support to pass
- Actual economic impact is likely very limited, especially if the shutdown is brief
- A longer shutdown like the 35 day closure in December 2018 would have a more significant impact
- Impact is largely in 2 areas: government workers are expected to be paid in arrears, economic data collection and release likely to be impacted
