I get how farmers markets could be more expensive. ESPECIALLY the meat.

But I actually grew bananas and plantains, so for these dimwits to try to charge the same as Walmart (which isnt cheap) is retarded. They aren't even tryna sell for 25 cents cheaper. Meanwhile, I know they get it cheap from the growers because I know how much I grew without knowledge, or a whole lot of effort, so I know the growers arent tryna rob the dudes with the stands.

I'll gladly pay more for a locally grown pineapple than buy one from Walmart because I know they're a pain in the ass to grow, and they take forever. But plantains, Mangoes, Bananas, guava, and a few other local fruits grow super easy and plentiful, so it's nuts to push people to buy from Walmart because youre being a pig

Honestly - we see the same thing here. A lot of people shop at Farmers Markets because they think they can get a better price than at the grocery store, which is true for some stuff, but not all - especially locally grown beef, pork, etc. In many cases, it costs more for a small producer to grow the same crop. Also, we pick everything vine ripe vs. picking before ripe and pumping shipping trucks with ethylene gas to color and ‘ripen’ the produce in transport. This results in lower quality, less nutrient dense produce. A lot of our crops are priced higher or the same as what you can get in the store, but quality is much higher and you can taste it. Its a tough game for small farmers, especially in the current economy where a lot of people need to shop based on price vs. value.

Oddly enough, way too many of the roadside fruit stands here are trash. The vendors are numbskulls. You go to Walmart and theyll have plantains for almost $2 each, which is retarded. But then, you go to some of the dudes on the roadside, and those asshats will be tryna sell shit for the same price as Walmart.

You can see when they get a fresh green batch, and as you drive by for a few days, you just watch as their whole shit turns from green, to yellow, to black because nobody is paying that much on the roadside.


I gave one of my neighbors a bunch she called this restaurant owner she knew and he wound up buying from me a few times. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
