One of the House Republicans leading an unsanctioned investigation into the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump accused the bipartisan task force approved by GOP leadership of being “politically put together.”
The independent panel dubbed the “J13 Forum,” in a nod to the day the assassination attempt occurred in July, held its first hearing on Monday and focused on the failures of federal agencies to act quickly in the moments leading up to the shooting. The hearing coincided with the first press conference of the official task force, which was created by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) to have sole jurisdiction over House investigations into the attempt on Trump’s life.
Crane underscored the importance of a separate investigation and said the bipartisan task force was “political in its forming” based on the members who were tapped for the panel. Crane cited at least three snipers in Congress who were overlooked for the committee, including himself, Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL), and Rep. Morgan Luttrell (R-TX).

The federal judge overseeing the case of the former FBI informant charged with lying about President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden's overseas business ties has rejected an effort to challenge the legitimacy of special counsel David Weiss' appointment, according to court records.
The challenge from Alexander Smirnov's attorneys was filed just hours after Judge Aileen Cannon unexpectedly dismissed former President Donald Trump's classified documents case last month on the grounds that special counsel Jack Smith was unlawfully appointed -- which is currently being appealed.
Judge Otis Wright's ruling in the Smirnov case is yet another indication of how Cannon's controversial dismissal of Trump's classified documents case – which ran contrary to decades of precedent set by other courts -- is not holding water with other judges weighing similar challenges to special counsels.
A separate judge overseeing Hunter Biden's tax case in Los Angeles rejected a similar challenge to Weiss' appointment earlier this month.

A French investigative judge extended police custody for the CEO of the popular messaging app Telegram, Pavel Durov, prosecutors said on Tuesday.
Durov was detained Saturday at Le Bourget airport as part of a judicial inquiry opened last month involving 12 alleged criminal violations. They include complicity in selling child sexual abuse material and in drug trafficking, fraud, abetting organized crime transactions and refusing to share information or documents with investigators when required by law.
A statement from the Paris prosecutor's office said Durov's police custody order was extended on Monday evening for up to 48 hours. After that, authorities must release or charge him, the prosecutor’s office said in an earlier statement.

A federal appeals court Monday cleared the way for Florida to enforce a ban on gender-affirming care for minors, blocking a lower court order against the ban while the matter is appealed.
The 2-1 decision was issued by the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta. The law revived by the ruling prohibits transgender minors from being prescribed puberty blockers and hormonal treatments, even with their parents’ permission. It also required that transgender adults only receive treatment from a doctor and not from a registered nurse or other qualified medical practitioner. Adults who want the treatment must be in the room with the physician when signing the consent form.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that he’s been tapped to join the Trump administration transition team.
In his role, Kennedy would select personnel for the next Trump administration. He made the announcement in an interview with Tucker Carlson.
“I’m going to work to get him elected and … I’m working with the campaign. We’re working on policy issues together,” Kennedy said. “I’ve been asked to go on to the transition team and … to help pick the people who will be running the government. And I’m looking forward to that.”
“I don’t know what would happen to me if we lose,” he added, with Carlson suggesting prison.

"We look forward to having their powerful voices on the team as we work to restore America’s greatness," he added.
RFK Jr. endorsed Trump last Friday and Gabbard, a former Democrat, expressed support for the former president at an event yesterday.

The Department of Defense (DOD) announced Monday the appointment of Dr. Jon T. Kosloski as director of the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), better known as the Pentagon’s UFO office.
Kosloski is leaving his position at the National Security Agency (NSA) to join the team at AARO in “investigating” (allegedly) UFOs and other paranormal phenomena, according to a press release from the DOD. David Plouffe, who managed President Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and advised Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s controversial “Zuckerbucks” effort in 2020, is now advising Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign.
A report in early August noted that Harris had brought several senior Obama veterans on board, including Plouffe. Many observers noted that Harris’s message improved remarkably from that point, including the emphasis on “joy” as a way to explain her odd laugh, and as a central focus of the party at the Democratic National Convention last week.
Plouffe advised Zuckerberg’s nonprofit organization, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, when it gave “$350 million to the “Safe Elections” Project of the Center for Technology and Civic Life (CTCL) and another $69.5 million to the Center for Election Innovation and Research.” That amount rivaled total federal government spending to make elections safer during the coronavirus pandemic. Analyses suggested funds were concentrated in Democratic counties in swing states.
Zuckerberg had been pressured to contribute to the effort after Democrats blamed him for Donald Trump’s victory in 2016, arguing that Facebook had allowed misinformation and memes by Russian troll farms to circulate on its site.

Walking slowly down the plane's stairs, he struggled to step up into the SUV waiting to take him to the 8,000-acre Santa Barbara ranch where he and his family have just enjoyed a week-long vacation. The Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Party of Georgia and several individuals, including county board members, sued the Georgia State Election Board on Monday over new election rules that critics say conflict with state law mandating certification of election results.
At the heart of the civil suit, filed in Fulton County, are two items the election board passed this month: the reasonable inquiry rule and the examination rule.
The suit says that the rules conflict with Georgia’s statutes governing certification and that the election board did not follow procedures for rulemaking as required by state law. It therefore asks the court to pause the two rules to the extent that they conflict with existing law.
The plaintiffs are also asking for a declaration that election results must be certified by Georgia’s statutory deadline of Nov. 12 and that certification is mandatory rather than discretionary.
Democratic state representatives asked Republican Gov. Brian Kemp on Monday to remove the three GOP board members who approved the new rules, saying they acted outside the scope of the board’s authority when they approved the measures.

Mariah Carey's mother and sister died on the same day this past weekend, People reported.
Carey shared a statement with the outlet confirming the tragic news.
"My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day," she told the outlet.
