A split second later, Louis hit the canvas for the first time in his professional career. Schmeling would win the first fight against Joe Louis who was considered the best in the world at the time. Hitler would personally great him on his arrival back in Germany. When war broke out he would go on to fight in Crete with paratroopers on the Frontline meanwhile Joe Louis would see no action and just run around the US collecting money for the war effort. Max would survive the war and even compete again in 1948.
