The red bird of paradise Paradisaea rubra is endemic to the moist forests of Western New Guinea (Indonesia).

The length of its body is about 30 cm, and the tail is 12 cm - not counting the decorative corkscrew-like red tail feathers, with which the total length of the red bird of paradise reaches 72 cm. It takes at least six years for these feathers to fully develop.

It differs from other birds of paradise by a golden-green raised feathery crest on the back of its head. The back is dull gray-yellowish, and the throat is dark green. The chest and wings are red-brown, the legs are red. The male, as expected, is brighter than the female.

The diet of these birds consists mainly of fruits, berries and arthropods. The red Bird of Paradise is depicted on the obverse of the banknote of Indonesia 20,000 rupees issued in 1992
