🐍 The rattlesnake's rattle is fascinating. When used as a threat display element, the rattle at the end of a rattlesnake's tail can shake from 50 to 100 times per second. 🐍

Did you know that the rattlesnake's rattle is made of keratin, the same material as our fingernails? Each time the snake sheds its skin, a new segment is added to the rattle. The more segments, the older the snake! 🐍📏

Rattlesnakes are found only in the Americas, from southern Canada to northern Argentina. They are pit vipers, with heat-sensing organs between their eyes and nostrils that help them locate prey. 🐍🌎🔍

While rattlesnake bites can be dangerous, these snakes are generally shy and will only strike if they feel threatened. The rattle is a warning to potential predators to stay away. 🐍⚠️🙅‍♂️

👍 Once a stork couple builds a nest, they will return to it for many years.

Initially, the males arrive (in late March or early April) and wait for their females.

Usually, the first female to arrive becomes the mate, but sometimes, several females may compete for a male. The stork male then chooses which "lady" to pay attention to and starts courting her.

After the female lays a few eggs, both parents take turns incubating them. Interestingly, the females sit on the eggs at night, while the males do so during the day. 🥰

The King Cobra

Unlike other venomous snakes, cobras don't ambush their prey, but instead make themselves visible. They stand up, spread their hood, and sway, as if warning that messing with them is dangerous, to scare off the enemy and force them to retreat.

The venom of all types of cobras is deadly to humans, but its potency varies between species. The venom of the Central Asian cobra is "not too" strong, with death from its bite occurring after several hours or even days. However, the venom of the King Cobra can kill a human in just 30 minutes. Furthermore, there are known cases where even elephants have died from its bite.
