Hello beautiful people 💜💜💜
This is gonna sound like a rant. But honestly i'm so frustrated by the Ethiopian Entertainment Industry that i just had to write it. Mind you i'm not a person who typically consumes a lot of amheric movies but whenever I open the TV and find a movie streaming, i'm shocked by how much of sexism, misogny and out right abuse is normalized in the movies. I'm not even talking about the subtle messaging of how weak women are showcased through how female characters are usually developed , I'm talking about outright abuse created as a " comic relief ". There is this movie airing on ebs where a female character keeps on abusing her husband and it's filmed comedically as if we're supposed to be laughing about it. 🤦‍♀ Then there comes a scene where he slaps her back and goes " I did it cause my aunt told me women like being hit " .... And what does she do ? She smiles and nods her head as if she's won over by his aggressiveness 🤦‍♀🤦‍♀. I sometimes want to know who writes this kinds of scripts ? Who the hell approves them ? and how does not a single person from an entire crew not realize how messed up the messaging behind it is . I get it , a movie is supposed to be the reflection of the society, so you might say they're just trying to shed light on that. But if you're going to discuss this kinds of themes, you need SELF AWARENESS, you can't just use it as a feeler scene. Besides, even if our society has a lot of ways to go in terms of breaking the patriarchy and giving women the equal rights they deserve, the entertainment industry is supposed to push us to do better, not reassure the society that treating women like a second class citizen is alright. Maybe I went all over the place, but I at least hope all of us acknowledge how messed up some messages are and demand better.
Have a good night. ✨✨✨✨

Hello 💜💜💜. Hope you're having a wonderful day. I was talking with a friend and a discussion came up about the issues strong, smart and outspoken women face on a daily basis. Have you ever starting talking or having a debate with someone and they go " stop being so stubborn " or " you're close minded " or they do the classic mansplaining where a man comments on or explains something to a woman in a condescending, overconfident, and often inaccurate or oversimplified manner. If the answer to the above questions is yes, then you're not alone. When males and females both exhibit similar outward behaviors, our sex will often determine the societal stereotype affixed to that behavior. For example, what may be seen as “assertive” behavior in a male may be called “pushiness” in a female. A male may be seen as being “enthusiastic” or “passionate,” whereas a female is accused of being “emotional”. Where a male is viewed as “confident” or “firm,” a female, on the other hand is considered “stubborn”. A study by Howard/Heidi of Stanford University did an experiment that used two control groups to read the resume of an individual. The resume is the same, the only difference is the indicated sex. One of the resumes says Howard, implying a male applicant. The other says Heidi, implying a female. The results were astounding: the group with the male applicant said they would hire him to their imaginary company. But the group with the female applicant said that she was too bossy, forward and felt as if she wouldn’t get along with their employees. They gathered all of this from a resume.
So how can we exactly fight this double standard ?
Give Yourself Permission To Take Up Space. Develop the habit of stating your beliefs and opinions in an assertive manner, and don't ever feel discouraged to speak up. Have a good rest of your week.
