The Perseids will light up the skies above the planet
The Perseids, one of the most spectacular meteor streams, will begin to peak on July 17, 2025. It will be possible to observe this cosmic show already from 21:00 UTC.
The Perseids are an annual phenomenon caused by the Earth passing through a plume of particles left behind by the Swift-Tuttle comet. This stream is known for its brightness and frequency: up to 100 meteors per hour.
Similar events occur every August, but this year their activity will begin earlier. Astronomers advise to look for a place away from the city lights to enjoy the spectacle to the fullest.

🇬🇱 Greenland: Iceberg the size of a skyscraper has drifted towards Innaarsuit - locals fear a tsunami
A giant iceberg is drifting in the village of Innaarsuit - the ice block has landed just a few hundred metres from the shore and has been standing still for a week. Because of its size and proximity, residents fear that if the iceberg splits or overturns, a huge wave could blow away coastal homes and infrastructure.
A fish factory and a shop have been closed in the village, and the emergency services have issued a warning not to approach the shore and avoid crowds of people near the water.

🇻🇳 Vietnam: In central Vietnam's Zialai Province, farmer Tran Van Nghia used his agricultural drone to pull out two children trapped on an island in the middle of the flooded Ba River.
The water rose nearly a meter in a matter of minutes, and attempts by locals to reach the children by swimming were unsuccessful - the current was too strong.
Nghia quickly tied a rope to the drone and sent it to the children. One by one, they grabbed the rope and were pulled to shore. The third child was rescued by a boat just minutes before the water completely flooded the islet.

In Peru, archaeologists have discovered the ancient city of Penico, which is more than 3,000 years old. 🏺
The city was an important trading center linking coastal and mountain regions, and played a key role in the exchange of resources between different cultures. Eight years of excavations found monumental buildings, clay figurines, ceremonial objects and shell jewelry. Penico emerged after the decline of the Caral civilization and became a new center of attraction for trade and rituals.
Peru's Ministry of Culture has announced that the ruins will soon be opened to the public - now a new dot on the archaeological tourism map.

This is the largest jellyfish in the world, the Lion's Mane (Cyanea capillata). Its tentacles, covered with thousands of stingers, can reach lengths of over 30 meters - that's longer than most whales!
Interesting facts
Size: The dome of the lion's mane can be over 2 meters in diameter and the tentacles can grow up to 36 meters.
Habitat: Found in the cold waters of the North Atlantic and Pacific, including Saanich Bay off the coast of Canada.
Depth: Often seen at depths of 20-40 meters, where the water is rich in plankton.
Danger: Touching the tentacles causes painful burns, but is usually not fatal to humans.

China's solar power plant in the Gobi Desert is a technological breakthrough. In Gansu province, 12,000 heliostats - controlled mirrors that track the sun and direct its rays to a central receiver tower - are spread over a vast area. 🌞
The tower contains molten salt heated to 500-600°C. It accumulates heat and allows generating electricity even at night - the plant operates around the clock. An astronaut on the ISS filmed one of the rarest natural phenomena - a giant jet. This is a powerful electric discharge that does not go downward, but shoots upward out of a thundercloud for almost 100 kilometers, all the way to the edge of space.
Jets form a bright branching, like a glowing tree, and are extremely rare. Capturing such a phenomenon from orbit is a real stroke of luck for scientists.

A supernova that exploded twice: astronomers record the impossible
Astronomers have captured for the first time the remains of a dead star SNR 0509-67.5, which exploded... twice. The image, taken with the Very Large Telescope (VLT), shows two concentric shells of calcium - traces of a double detonation.
This is the first photographic evidence that a star can die in two consecutive explosions. The object is 60,000 light years from Earth and has been a real show for scientists: the double detonation left unique chemical traces that can now be studied.

Imagine a tree that looks like the work of an abstract artist: the rainbow eucalyptus. Its bark literally shimmers with all the colors of the rainbow, from bright green to orange, purple and brown.
