From September 29, 2024 to November 25, 2024, the Earth will have a temporary satellite, asteroid 2024 PT5. This asteroid, about 10 meters in diameter, will be captured by Earth's gravitational pull and will become a “mini-Moon” for 57 days.
Asteroid 2024 PT5 belongs to the Arjuna class of asteroids, which have orbits close to Earth's orbit. It will orbit the Earth but will not be visible to the naked eye due to its low brightness. Only astronomers with professional equipment will be able to observe this asteroid.
Asteroid 2024 PT5 poses no danger to the Earth and will return to its orbit around the Sun after passing by in 2025, awaiting another visit in 2055.
