The governing body is a DAO registered in the Marshall Islands. It owns the company that holds the island lease

Satoshi Island is a private island officially known as Lataro. In 2022, the Prime Minister of Vanuatu expressed support for the project, citing its potential to attract investment and boost the local economy

A DAO that raised $55M to save a man 🕊

Meet AssangeDAO — one of the most powerful examples of how decentralisation can become a political tool

In 2022, the crypto community raised $53M in just 3 days (ultimately $55M) to support Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, who was facing 175 years in prison in the US for publishing classified documents. This wasn’t a charity or a non-profit — it was a decentralised autonomous organisation, created by anonymous people on the internet to take action 🏃‍♀

How did it work?

AssangeDAO didn’t just collect donations. They partnered with digital artist Pak and launched an NFT series called Censored. The main piece was a 1/1 NFT called Clock, counting the days since Assange’s imprisonment 🖼⏳

The DAO won the auction and purchased Clock for 16,593 ETH (~$55M). All contributors received the $JUSTICE token — not for profit, but as a sign of participation and a vote in the DAO

Where did the money go?

All funds were sent to the Wau Holland Foundation, which supports Assange’s legal defence and public awareness campaigns 🛡

So what happened?

The DAO helped:

— bring global attention back to Assange’s case

If you want to change something in a DAO — you first need to submit a proposal

For example: allocate funds for marketing, add a new member to the organization, or update voting rules. Any meaningful decision in a DAO starts with a proposal ✍

How it works:

A participant creates an idea and submits it as a proposal. All DAO members can view it and vote. If it reaches the required number of votes and meets the quorum threshold — the decision is automatically approved ✔

Note: depending on how the DAO is configured, proposals can be created by any member — or only by those with specific rights (like holding tokens or reputation)

Own The Doge DAO acquired the rights to the original photo of Kabosu — the legendary Doge 🐶

In 2010, Japanese woman Atsuko Sato photographed her Shiba Inu, Kabosu, sitting on a yellow couch. That photo went viral and gave birth to the Doge meme — and later, the cryptocurrency Dogecoin

In 2024, a DAO called Own The Doge struck a deal with Atsuko Sato to obtain the exclusive rights to the image. The goal isn’t just to collect a piece of internet history — it’s to develop the Doge brand in Web3, including NFT drops, merchandise, and collaborations with major companies 💸

Importantly, the DAO doesn’t plan to restrict existing use of the image in memes or products. The DAO making climate data accessible 🌦

dClimate is a project tackling an important but overlooked problem: in many developing countries, there’s a lack of reliable weather and climate data. And without it, people can’t insure their crops, prepare for droughts, or plan their planting season 🌾

In developed countries, this data exists — but it’s often closed off, expensive, and tailored for big corporations. Meanwhile, a farmer in Tanzania might have no way of knowing if it’s going to rain 🤷‍♀️

dClimate collects climate data from around the world: satellites, IoT sensors, weather stations, historical records. Then it makes that data accessible to everyone — from startups to insurance companies and government programs. It can also be used in smart contracts (e.g. for automatic drought-triggered insurance payouts) 📊

But why do they need a DAO?

To determine which data sources can be trusted, dClimate plans to launch a DAO where:

✅ participants will propose and approve validation scripts
✅ data quality will be evaluated transparently using open metrics
✅ decisions on updating the system and validation rules will be made through community voting

Consensus is the rule that determines whether a DAO decision is approved or not

It answers the question: what percentage of “yes” votes is needed for a proposal to pass? It could be a simple majority (50%+1), two-thirds, or even full unanimity — depending on how critical the decision is and how the DAO is configured 🔛

Don’t confuse it with quorum:

🧡 Quorum checks how many members voted in total
🧡 Consensus checks how many of them voted “yes”

Examples:

51% — for everyday decisions (fast and flexible)
66% — for updating key parameters
100% — when full agreement is required (rare but possible)

This helps balance speed, security, and trust within the DAO ☯️

📊 Telegram will receive $300M in cash and equity, plus 50% of all Grok subscriptions made through the app. That’s a big win for a platform that’s been searching for a sustainable business model without ads or selling user data.

📈 For Musk, this is also a power move. Grok loses its exclusivity on X (Twitter) but gains access to Telegram’s billion-strong user base. That means more paying users — and more revenue for xAI.

RAGE QUIT 🏃‍♂️💨

Rage Quit is a mechanism that allows a DAO member to leave the organization and withdraw their share of the treasury

It’s used in DAOs where members hold “shares” (share tokens) that represent their portion of the collective budget. If you disagree with a decision or simply no longer want to participate, you can initiate a Rage Quit and receive your share of the assets — proportional to your stake 🔙

Think of it as an insurance policy: no one becomes a hostage to decisions they don’t support — you can exit at any time

What’s required to Rage Quit:

1️⃣ Be a member of a DAO with fixed share tokens
2️⃣ Not be actively participating in an ongoing vote (usually, Rage Quit is only allowed before or after a vote)
3️⃣ Submit the command — and your share of the treasury is automatically transferred to you. After that, you’re no longer part of the DAO’s governance

Why it matters:

— Gives new members confidence — you can always leave with what you brought in
— Protects the minority from majority dominance
— Encourages honesty: no one wants to lose contributors (and funds) over toxic decisions
