A place for Aryan (European) Folkish Pagans
An example of a christianized version of ancient giants lore can be found in an apocrypha called The Story of the Cross Tree where Adam was a giant whose skull is so big king Solomon’s servant thinks it’s a cave and hides in it from a sandstorm.
Читать полностью…Other example is a trio of giants supporting the hero in a number of tales like Kotygoroshko. Their names differ from one story to another, but they are all a play on the powers of the trio such as Oak-ripper, Mountain-turner and River-tearer.
Читать полностью…For example, in one legend two great men (not explicitly called giants) have argued as to who will rule the land and decided to compete by throwing boulders over the Dnieper river. Each tore a huge chunk of rock from nearby mountains with their bare hands and tossed them as a contest. The one whose stone landed further won and settled the land with his people.

Giants, sweat and mushrooms
Even though our sources on the topic are few and far between as well as mostly christianized, a keen eye still can spot the Pagan elements and separate them from the abrahamic veneer.
Done a deep dive into Slavic lore recently. Need to gather my thoughts and write them down. Should be done in a few days.

Читать полностью…Have you ever heard of the case of PhD archeologists and historians, for many years, believing they found "an ancient crown," only for it to be later identified as the metal fittings of a bucket? This shows the importance of two phenomena which we see here from time to time.
Firstly, that "experts" make mistakes, especially in their interpretations of data. Academics aren't prophets, no matter who really wants that to be the case. They may have more of an "understanding" of the data of a certain subject than you, but that does not make them infallible. This is especially true in their personal interpretations of drawing data-points together to fit/craft a narrative. So often do people in this sphere worship academia, treating their insights as akin to "divine revelation," that any other interpretation is discounted as "not the case."
Secondly, there is a difference between data and interpretations of said data. So often do people conflate the two, leading to them thinking speculation is "objective fact."

They will neither sleep sweetly
nor wake warmly,
until thou prayest this cure
to which I have given the words.
Have a blessed Wednesday, guys

I chose to hold the Blót on stretch of secluded coastline. As we began the Blót, high tide had finished rolling in, something that I didn't plan for, but worked out absolutely beautifully.
As we gave our offerings, there was a moment where the sun broke through the clouds and began to glisten off of the sea. Njörðr had blessed us with giving us some of the best maritime scenery that specific area has to offer. We knew that our offers and prayers were received.
We chose to Blót to Njörðr this Miðsumar because summertime is a season of abundance in Alaska. This is the time when you stock up on salmon, halibut, spot prawns, etc. The hunting season is also just around the corner. Njörðr's blessings are very generous here in Alaska. Living in such a place absolutely puts you closer to the Gods, which in turn makes living as a devout Heathen all that more meaningful and rewarding.
Happy Miðsumar to all, and may blessings be upon you, your family, and our folk.
HAIL!
While they are not specifically named giants, the three obviously have to be huge to move mountains with their hands and split rivers with mustache. Giants terraforming again.
Читать полностью…It’s not known how the giants were created and more importantly how they disappeared. A rare few surviving members of that ancient kin can be found in epic and fairy tales, but the race as a whole is extinct. A good example is Svyatogor who is a giant (the last one?) unable and unwilling to live in a human world which is why he kills himself after giving a magical sword and some of his power (but not all of it since that would be too much) to a friend and student Ilja of Murom. The latter ended up beaconing the strongest and most beloved of heroes in the Kyiv Cycle of epic songs (bylina).
Читать полностью…It is implied implied that before humans the world was populated by giants. We might also just say that those were the first humans and just happened to be big and almost immortal, but let’s just call them giants. Unusual geographical locations are often explained to be their handy-work.

Having some health and family issues. Sorry, will try to write soon.

It shows Thor had a role to play in healing the sick. That at least a few illnesses were seen to have been afflictions by malevolent spirits, whom Thor would sanctify through conflict with said malevolent spirits.
:note: 'vīgi' Is commonly translated as "hallow" or "bless" but is heavily tied to Thor specifically and fighting against the forces of the jötnar. So I used slay in translation as Thor is being invoked here to scare or defeat this illness.
Little charms such as these can tell us a lot about the practices and beliefs of our Ancestors
Edit: on our last livestream, a fellow believer and Norroena scholar Dr. Scott Shell, validated the usage of slay in this translation
Ribe healing galder stick
A pinewood charm from Ribe, Denmark with a mix of Pagan and christian elements dated to circa 1300 CE
The inscription is divided into:
Part 1 Asking for help from Earth, High Haven and the sun as well as saint mary and the lord god (christian)
Part 2 Exorcism of evil (sickness) from breast, body, limb, eyes and ears
Part 3 A warning for the addressee that unless they say this cure “nine needs” which lie on a stone out in the sea will haunt them. This is an old Pagan formula also found in Icelandic book of magic Galdrabok
