🇷🇺❌🇺🇸🇺🇦 Aide to the Russian president, Yuri Ushakov, said that peace negotiations with Ukraine will resume only after Kiev withdraws its troops from the territory it controls in the Donbas
Currently, holding a new round of trilateral talks between Moscow, Washington and Kiev on the settlement of the situation in Ukraine does not make sense, said Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov.
According to him, for further progress, Kiev must withdraw its troops from the Donbass, Interfax reports.
“Everyone understands, including, I would say, and Ukrainian negotiators that now Kiev needs to take only one serious step, after which, firstly, military actions will be suspended, and secondly, the prospects for serious discussion of the prospects for further long-term settlement will open,” he said.
The assistant to the President noted that in this matter further beliefs are meaningless, since now a concrete action is expected from Kiev, in particular from Vladimir Zelensky.

🚗 🇨🇳 🇪🇺 Xiaomi is poaching engineers from BMW and Porsche — and it’s becoming a real problem for Europe’s auto industry
The Chinese company has assembled a powerful team for its automotive division.
Engineers and designers who previously worked on top models like the Porsche GT3 RS, BMW M4 GT3, Mercedes Vision GT, and BMW i8 have joined Xiaomi.
Among the new hires are specialists in electric platforms, powertrains, interiors, and performance cars. Many come from BMW, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche, and Skoda.
China’s auto industry is no longer copying — it’s hiring the people who built the originals.
And while European brands are losing market share, Chinese companies are rapidly turning into the new leaders of the industry.

🇳🇴 Norway to reopen three gasfields closed down last century
The rich Scandinavian country’s centre-left government announced on Tuesday that the three North Sea fields — Albuskjell, Vest Ekofisk and Tommeliten Gamma — would restart production in 2028, four decades after they last pumped out any gas.
The move, which drew howls of protest from environmentalists and some of the government’s leftwing support parties, is designed to meet demand for gas from Germany and the UK, two of Norway’s biggest customers.
“Norwegian production of oil and gas is an important contribution to energy security in Europe. The development of new gasfields helps Norway maintain high deliveries in the long term. This has become more important after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East,” said Terje Aasland, Norway’s energy minister.
Norway is western Europe’s largest petroleum producer, and has taken the crown from Russia as the main supplier of gas to many of the continent’s countries. Oslo has also increasingly positioned itself as the democratic oil and gas supplier of choice to try to force concessions out of Brussels in other areas, such as recognition of its right to drill in the Arctic.
Norway’s biggest three political parties are all firmly in favour of drilling for more oil and gas, and the minority Labour government also announced on Tuesday that it was offering 70 new blocks for exploration later this year. More than half of the blocks lie in the Barents Sea, inside the Arctic Circle.
But such exploration is controversial among smaller parties on which Labour depends for its parliamentary majority, while environmentalists argue that the world does not need new oil and gasfields if it wants to reach previously agreed climate targets.

As renewable penetration rises, however, the central challenge of the energy transition is increasingly one of adequacy and flexibility – ensuring that clean electricity is available when and where it is needed.

Admin Note 📝: State Sen. Lucas was one of the driving forces behind Virginia's redistricting push after controversial Governor and "ex" CIA agent Abigail Spanberger was elected. She was also a driving force behind marijuana legalization in Virginia.
This investigation is suspected to be involving that legalization process and potential kickbacks/regulatory malfeasance regarding the issuing of licenses to open dispensaries in Virginia.
She's an important ally and whip of Governor Spanberger, and this investigation is likely in part to kick the Virginia Democratic party while it's down after the redistricting efforts were halted in the state supreme court* after procedural errors in its implementation were challenged.
Currently, they appear to be at odds since the election based on reporting and chatter. This investigation could be a case of a democrat insider throwing State Sen. Lucas under the bus for their own gain or retribution, as many Democrat operatives have acted (and been) untouchable in their graft since the 1960s and have generally failed to mask or obfuscated fairly obvious wrongdoing, opening them up to this type of political vulnerability.
🛢 US Exports of Oil Products Reach Record on Diesel Demand
Shipments Rose to 8.2 Million Barrels a Day, EIA Says
The U.S. has become a lifeline for global consumers as the near-closure of the Strait of Hormuz throttles Middle Eastern supplies of oil and fuels. Crude shipments hit a record in data reported last week, and continuing robust demand for fuels like diesel, jet and gasoline drove the fresh record for product exports.
“It seems export capacity is skewed toward products versus oil this week,” said Ryan McKay, a TD Securities commodity strategist. “It makes sense given product-market tightness is more acute than crude globally.”
The product shipments were driven by a record for exports of distillate fuels like diesel, with 1.9 million barrels a day departing from the U.S. in the week ended May 1. The totals narrowly exceeded recent highs set in August 2024, and eclipse any total from the early years of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Exports of jet fuel also rose last week to 427,000 barrels a day, just below a record high set the week of April 3.
So-called middle distillates such as diesel and jet fuel have come under particular pressure during the war, as refiners in Asia and Europe have been cut off from crude supplies. Meanwhile, refiners west of the strait, which produce significant quantities of the products, have been largely unable to send cargoes.
The prices of diesel and jet fuel have surged in the U.S and around the world since the start of the war. Retail diesel prices have soared to about $5.67 a gallon on average in the U.S., according. to data from the American Automobile Association. And on the Gulf Coast, jet fuel was priced at $3.77 a gallon as of May 5 — a 57% increase from the start of the war.

🇰🇵🇰🇷 North Korea amends constitution to drop goal of reunification
North Korea has revised its constitution to abandon the aim of reunification with Seoul, redefining itself for the first time in more than 70 years as a separate country from its longtime southern adversary.
The change, which formalised North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s intention to drop his regime’s commitment to eventual reunification, was disclosed by an academic at a press conference hosted by the South Korean Ministry of Unification on Wednesday.
The new text states that “the territory of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea includes the territory bordering the People’s Republic of China and the Russian Federation to the north and the Republic of Korea to the south, and the territorial sea and airspace established on it”.
Experts said this implied an official acceptance of two separate Korean states. Previously, Pyongyang has expressed a commitment to the ultimate reunification of the Korean peninsula, which was divided at the end of the second world war.
North Korea has not made any comment on the revised constitution and the source of the text revealed by the unification ministry was not disclosed.
While the revised text did not make reference to South Korea in hostile terms, analysts said this did not necessarily indicate an end to Pyongyang’s aggressive rhetoric against its southern neighbour.
Kim has repeatedly spoken of the two Koreas as separate countries in recent years. He has also erased symbolic references to reunification, renaming Tongil (“reunification”) metro station in Pyongyang and dismantling an Arch of Reunification monument.
This matters in the context of a dispute over the Northern Limit Line (NLL), the de facto maritime border between the two Koreas in the Yellow Sea that was drawn by the United Nations Command shortly after the 1953 Korean war armistice.
Pyongyang has never formally recognised the NLL, which it argues is unilaterally imposed by the US and violates international maritime law.

🛢 Oil storage tanks in the United States will run empty "somewhere in the July 4 period," Carlyle's Jeff Currie tells Bloomberg.
Australia, The Philippines, Thailand will run out of oil sometime in the month May, then it will be Europe hitting tank bottoms and then the U.S. somewhere in that July 4th time period if not sooner.
By the way the inventory numbers coming out of the US, the ones we got last night, the ones we got last week, I've never seen anything like that before and I think that its important to remember that those inventory numbers (...) let's define terms, deficit is when there is more demand than supply and right now we're drawing out inventories so its not a shortage yet.
Shortages are in some parts of Asia right now and its not that bad yet because you're not completely at tank bottom but in places like Europe and the U.S. you're in a deficit and you don't get shortages until you get to tank bottoms.
