New Mexico’s attorney general sued the U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday, accusing it of blocking the state from investigating sex crimes at Jeffrey Epstein’s sprawling ranch near Santa Fe.

The lawsuit in federal court in Washington, D.C., said the department and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stonewalled New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez’s criminal investigation into Epstein and others, taking steps that “actively harms victims and undermines the public interest.”

The lawsuit said the Justice Department and Blanche were hiding information about Epstein and his co-conspirators when New Mexico is one of the few jurisdictions that may still be able to hold Epstein’s associates accountable or “provide some sense of justice to survivors.”

“Todd Blanche today with a stroke of a pen could grant us the access that he claimed,” Torrez said. “Instead they have decided to stonewall, to obstruct and to frankly conceal for whatever reason.”

The lawsuit references a Justice Department prosecution memo that describes a sexual assault at Zorro Ranch by a woman who was not Epstein’s former girlfriend and close associate, Ghislaine Maxwell.

Asked on “Hallie Jackson Now” whether Torrez believes there is another woman who facilitated assaults in a similar way to Maxwell, he said, “The truth is we don’t know at this point.”

In a joint statement Wednesday to NBC News, some of the survivors of Epstein’s abuse said they stood behind Torrez’s request for the files.

“The DOJ’s argument that it won’t hand over files in order to protect survivors’ identities is laughable, when the DOJ has already revealed their names and personal information,” the statement said. “By holding onto these files, Todd Blanche’s DOJ is simply continuing to protect abusers.”

The desert sky above New Mexico holds a great deal of heat. The challenge, however, has always been how to store that heat after dark.

A vertical tower with hundreds of mirrors has just begun to reflect sunlight onto a single point. This tower does not store heat in liquid inside a sealed tube.

Instead, it stores the heat in falling sand.

The CSP plant shown here utilizes numerous heliostat mirrors. These mirrors focus intense beams of sunlight towards a central area located at the top of the tower.

At the top of the tower, a special hopper releases millions of dark ceramic grains every second.

Once the curtain begins to fall, each particle falls directly under the concentrated light rays.

Since no tubing exists, direct sunlight heats the particles without barrier heat loss.

Renewable energy must continue to generate electric power even when the sun is not shining. The falling sand concept serves as a giant thermal battery.

Although this closed-loop system produces electricity long after sunset, utilizing solid particles decreases total operating cost. It also eliminates operational risks related to pipe corrosion and leakage due to chemicals.

Advanced solar towers represent a major breakthrough for long-duration energy storage.

Brigadier General Mahdi Jebel Moon, who led RSF operations north of West Darfur’s capital El Geneina, died during intense fighting in the areas of Hajar Marfain and Bir Saliba, local sources and officials said.

Minni Arko Minnawi, head of the Sudan Liberation Movement and general supervisor of the Joint Forces, an alliance of armed groups fighting alongside the Sudanese Armed Forces, said on Facebook that his forces achieved a battlefield victory, killing Jebel Moon.

Pro-RSF media channels later confirmed his death in the combat north of El Geneina.

Jebel Moon was one of the paramilitary group’s top field commanders in Darfur. He recently took command of the RSF’s 128th Group following his promotion to brigadier general, having previously commanded RSF artillery forces in Khartoum.

He boasted that the initial conflict lasted only 48 minutes and that the U.S. has already recouped its wartime expenses "many, many, many times" over.

The U.S. government has seized and generated more than $13 billion from the sale of Venezuelan crude oil since taking control of the country's exports in January 2026, per FT.

Only about $300 million has been officially and publicly traced as returned back to Caracas.

The funds are being kept in a dedicated U.S. Treasury account. According to statements made by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the money moves through a Citibank account and is audited by the accounting firm KPMG.

Congressional Democrats, led by House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Robert Garcia, escalated an investigation into the administration. They are demanding a full, transparent accounting of the $13+ billion, calling the lack of congressional oversight a "black box."
