🇺🇸 Following the precedent set by Romania, Washington DC legal experts say Congress has the legal prerogatives to prevent Donald Trump from taking office

They cite the 14th Amendment to the Constitution arguing that Trump is “an oath-breaking insurrectionist” which makes him “ineligible” to be president.

They argue that Trump falls into the conditions set by the Amendment which provides that such a person can be removed by Congress with a 2/3 majority.

They further say that the “insurrection” of which Trump is accused is against the Constitution, not the government, citing Trump’s impeachment on January 13th 2021, the subsequent hearings, the decision of the Colorado Supreme Court and the bipartisan inquiry of the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.

I expected most would loyally follow the Trump admin on this, but it's really only other foreigners and immigrants like Hanania and Cheong cheering on the tech-right position now.

I don't think that would have been the case 4 years ago.

IT outsourcing firm Cognizant has received 52k H1B visas since 2009, more than any other American company. Almost all went to Indians. In October a federal jury ruled the company had intentionally discriminated against more than 2,000 non-Indian employees employed from 2013-22.

American employees were replaced by cheaper Indian H1Bs more willing to relocate. Labor costs drove hiring, not skills. Fewer than 20 percent of H1Bs Cognizant sponsored since 2020 hold a masters degree or higher. IT companies use the visas to fill lower level roles.

In 2015 Cognizant executives panicked when a bill in Congress aimed to prevent companies with more than 50% of its workforce on H1B visas from receiving more. The former head of US recruitment at Cognizant says “the entire business model is built off cheap Indian labor.”

A former executive alleges that he was asked to sign hundreds of official H1B applications for assignments under him that did not exist. He claims he was fired after filing an internal complaint alleging discrimination against non-South Indian employees.

Insiders allege Cognizant keeps a reserve of H1B workers abroad and gives them preferred assignments in the US. Corporate prefers transferring workers from India to hiring an Americans. American workers train them and are terminated shortly thereafter.

In the past five years, the five largest IT outsourcing companies have all settled, lost, or are currently fighting similar discrimination lawsuits. Plaintiffs stand to win hundreds of millions of dollars. These are the “skilled workers” companies sponsor under the H1B program.

🇷🇺 Russia says ‘terrorism’ took down ship in Mediterranean

A Russian cargo ship called Ursa Major that sank in the Mediterranean Sea was the victim of “an act of terrorism,” Russian state news agency RIA cites the vessel’s owner as saying.

The ship, built in 2009, sank after an explosion ripped through its engine room and two of its 16 crew were missing, the Russia’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

RIA cited Oboronlogistika, the ship’s ultimate owner and a company that is part of the Russian Defense Ministry’s military construction operations, as saying the vessel had been targeted in “a terrorist act.”

Oboronlogistika had previously said that the ship had been en route to the Russian far eastern port of Vladivostok with two giant port cranes lashed to its deck.
