Tesla sold 1.79 million EVs and 2024 marked the first year when Tesla’s sales declined (!) since 2011.

Although in the sales made by BYD, hybrids are also counted, data shows BYD sold 1.76 million full EVs, close to the same amount sold by Tesla.

Tesla still technically is the largest EV maker in the world but China’s BYD has long overtaken the company in terms of sales, with more than double the amount.

1. Union members are becoming ever more right wing
2. Labor boosters/organizers are becoming ever more left wing

Union households still narrowly vote for Democrats, but it's almost even now, and will flip very soon

The people getting into labor organizing today are likely to be progressives or even outright socialists, meanwhile union members are increasingly strong trump supporters

The company is set to build the world’s first commercial-scale wave energy project in Porto, Portugal. With a capacity of 20 megawatts, it will provide power to 20,000 homes. Success here is expected to attract bank financing, a key factor for widespread adoption.

The tumultuous relationship between Israel and Turkey is heading for more turbulence as recent developments in Syria pitch the two countries against each other in what has the potential of developing into a direct armed confrontation.

On Wednesday, tens of thousands of people demonstrated against Israel in Istanbul, expressing solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza after almost a year and a half of a bloody war between Israel and the Hamas terrorist organization. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has led Turkish anti-Israeli sentiment for years.

“Erdogan thought this war was just another round of violence,” Dr. Hay Eytan Cohen Yanarocak, an expert on Turkey from the Moshe Dayan Center at Tel Aviv University, told The Media Line. “But after a few weeks, he realized Israel was waging an all-out war on Hamas. Erdogan, who is deeply influenced by the same Muslim Brotherhood ideology as Hamas, began to deteriorate the relationship with Israel.”

In one of the latest dramatic developments, the fall of the Bashar Assad regime last month has put the autonomy of US-backed Kurdish groups in Syria in question, as the Islamist rebels who overthrew Assad and are backed by Turkey threaten their territories. Israel has maintained covert relations with the Kurds throughout the years, seeing it as a possible ally against shared enemies.

Turkey is looking to cement further its influence in Syria, which shares a border with Israel. For years, despite being officially at war, the border was one of Israel’s quietest. Now, as Turkey inches closer to Israel geographically, this quiet could be interrupted.

“There is a chance of a future military confrontation between Israel and Turkey,” Prof. Efrat Aviv, an expert on Turkey from Bar-Ilan’s Department of General History and Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies, told The Media Line. “This is unprecedented, as are all events witnessed in the region recently.”

The main obstacle to resorting maneuver on the battlefield in Ukraine is the integration of offensive and defensive electronic warfare (EW) and the use of unmanned systems integrated with ground-based fires and attack drones, a phenomenon we have coined the Tactical Reconnaissance and Strike Complex (TRSC).

The TRSC is the combination of pervasive tactical reconnaissance, primarily by drone; drone-corrected precision artillery fire; precision munitions delivered by fixed- and/or rotary-wing aircraft; drone-launched precision munitions; and large numbers of FPV loitering munitions.

Extensive offensive and defensive electronic warfare supports the TRSC, which also draws on operational and strategic reconnaissance assets.

Neither side in Ukraine has yet integrated long-range strike systems into efforts to conduct or defend against penetration or exploitation operations at scale, although they could do so.

The TRSC is not like a set of integrated weapons systems such as NATO armies would field in which each major component has relatively fixed capabilities and fixed relationships with the other components.

The TRSC thus constantly evolves on both sides in very rapid cycles, sometimes as short as two-to-three weeks driven largely by the competition between EW systems and their countermeasures. The TRSC also varies in capability and intensity across the front line.

It relies in part on a limited number of advanced systems that neither side can field in quantities sufficient to cover the entire front. The adjustments that create temporary advantages are generally also difficult to proliferate across the entire theater rapidly.

The novelty of the TRSC lies in part in its cyclic dynamism.

The nature of the TRSC itself thus generates windows of vulnerability and opportunity that a skillful attacker can hope to use, in principle, to make or exploit breakthroughs to achieve operationally-significant objectives

🇷🇺🚢 Russian ships heading to Syria to move equipment to Libya

The Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reports a flotilla of Russian ships will be arriving in the Syrian port of Tartus in the coming days with some destined for Africa – possibly for Libya.

“On January 5, 2025, the Russian large landing ships Ivan Gren and Alexander Otrakovsky, as well as the dry cargo ship Sparta, are scheduled to arrive in the Syrian port. They are currently on their way to Tartus in the Mediterranean Sea,” GUR wrote in a posting on Telegram, according to the website: The Maritime Executive.

Among the personnel they believe are heading to Syria to oversee the next phase of the evacuation is the Russian Chief of Staff of the landing ships fleet.

GUR reports Russia has been massing at Tartus its long-time outpost after withdrawing from forward positions to continue the evacuation that began shortly after Bashar Al-Assad fled the country turning up in Moscow.

Russia declared a regional state of emergency on Saturday in Crimea, which it seized from Ukraine in 2014, as workers cleared tons of contaminated sand and earth on either side of the Kerch Strait following an oil spill in the Black Sea last month.

Mikhail Razvozhaev, the Russia-installed governor of the city of Sevastopol, said new traces of minor pollution required urgent elimination and declared a state of emergency in the city – giving authorities more power to take swift decisions such as ordering citizens to evacuate their homes.

The Kerch Strait runs between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov and separates Crimea’s Kerch Peninsula from Russia’s Krasnodar region.

Rescue workers have now cleared more than 86,000 metric tons of contaminated sand and soil, the emergencies ministry said on Saturday. The oil leaked from two aging tankers that were hit by a storm on Dec. 15. One sank and the other ran aground.

They arrived in Port-au-Prince on Friday to join the armed international security mission in the country’s fight against terrorizing gangs.

The 83 security personnel that arrived included an advance team of eight soldiers from El Salvador and the first 75 of 150 military police officers from Guatemala. While the Salvadorans will be providing casualty and medical evacuations in support of the Kenya-led mission.

In preparation for the additional boots on the ground, the Biden administration has flown at least 22 flights into Haiti in the past month with much needed equipment for the Haitian police and the Kenyan mission including armored vehicles.

The Central Americans will now join 416 police officers and military soldiers from Kenya, Jamaica, The Bahamas, and Belize. They are expected to be joined by other personnel in the coming days, including the remaining 75 Guatemalans who have been deployed to join the U.N. mission

U.S. State Department Spokesman: "We are also pursuing the government of Haiti’s request to transition the MSS into a UN peacekeeping effort, so the support of the MSS mission is —can ultimately be sustained over a long term. And ultimately, our hope is that it paves the way to security conditions that result in holding free and fair elections.”
