🇹🇩 Chad say military foiled armed assault on presidential complex, 19 killed

At least 19 people have been killed in Chad where security forces said they had prevented an attempt by armed fighters to storm the presidential complex in the capital N’Djamena.

At least 18 of a force of 24 armed men were killed in the failed assault on the president’s office on Wednesday evening, the government said, and one member of the security forces also died in the gun battles.

The attack coincided with an official visit by China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Chad

🇹🇩❌⁉️ — According to Chadian government spokesman, the clashes yesterday at the presidential palace led to the killing of 18 attackers and the capture of 6 others, the assailants managed to kill 1 presidential guard and injure 2 others seriously.

Additionally, the spokesman said the attack was not of a terrorist background, and the 24 attackers came from a known neighborhood in the capital and used public transport to arrive at the palace, the assailants infiltrated the palace court by attacking guards with machetes and knives, no firearms were used:

They had no weapons of war, hence their attempt is a completely incomprehensible disorderly attempt.

🇺🇸 LAFD’s most recent data says that the fires ravaging through Los Angeles occupy 15.832 acres and are at 0% containment meaning they are expected to expand to other areas.

The LAFD advises nearby residents to shut off power and gas to their homes and evacuate where an evacuation order was issued

➡️ Iran will relocate its capital to the southern coastal region of Makran, the government spokeswoman said on Tuesday, in an ambitious plan aimed at bypassing Tehran’s enduring overpopulation, power shortages and water scarcity.

➡️ While officials emphasize the strategic and economic advantages of the shift, critics have voiced concerns over likely enormous financial and logistical demands.

“The new capital will definitely be in the south, in the Makran region, and this matter is currently being worked on,” government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said on Tuesday.

➡️ She highlighted Tehran’s growing ecological pressures, including water scarcity and announced the formation of two councils to examine the feasibility of the move and develop a sea-based economy in the Makran region.

➡️ President Masoud Pezeshkian reignited the debate over the location of the capital, advocating for a move by describing the imbalance between Tehran’s financial resources and expenditures as unsustainable.

Hundreds of thousands of residential and commercial locations have been left without power in the LA area as the natural disaster has become so large in proportion that it has captured the nation's attention. Many have been naturally focused on 'thoughts and prayers' for heroic LA and California firefighters, and their hoped-for ability to push back the raging inferno. But several local headlines from prior years make clear that area firefighters could have had more resources to draw from, if significant emergency response supplies and items weren't sent to Zelensky

"Los Angeles County fire crews are sending some of their extra equipment to firefighters in Ukraine," a local March 2022 story reads. "The plane carrying that much-needed surplus equipment, such as hoses, nozzles, turnouts, helmets, body armor and other personal protective gear, is expected to take off Friday."

While supporters of such programs argue that this was all surplus and 'retired' and extra equipment, we are quite sure that in these current dire circumstances surrounding Los Angeles any such 'surplus' could have been used and is still badly needed.

✉️Telegram gave the US data on thousands of users after the arrest of Pavel Durov. This was reported by the specialized resource 404 Media with reference to the report of the Telegram Transparency Report bot.

The messenger handed over data on 2,253 users to US authorities in 2024, fulfilling 900 official requests. Most of the requests were satisfied after the arrest of Telegram founder Pavel Durov in France in August.

Thus, from January 1 to September 30, Telegram provided information on only 14 requests, and then there was a sharp increase in the number of data disclosures in the following months. Durov, we recall, was detained at the Paris airport on August 24.

At the same time, requests from Russia remain unanswered. As The Moscow Times notes, Telegram stopped providing information on requests from Russian authorities after September 30. The company's report indicates that in the first nine months of 2024, the messenger did not satisfy a single request from Russia.

Telegram had previously only provided user data in cases involving suspected terrorism. However, following his arrest, Durov apparently committed to handing over data in cases involving cybercrime, sale of illegal goods, and online fraud.

Let us recall that Telegram’s refusal to cooperate in this way became the main accusation brought against Durov in France.

According to Wikipedia, Greenland “has some of the world’s largest remaining oil resources”…

The U.S. consumes an average of approximately 20 million barrels of petroleum per day.

So 110 billion barrels is a serious amount of oil.

And it also turns out that the Chinese are very interested in the rare-earth elements that are buried under the dirt in Greenland. In fact, one particular area of Greenland is “home to one of the world’s largest undeveloped deposits of rare-earth elements outside of China”…"

Fire departments have tried to diversify their ranks for years with only modest success. The profession remains overwhelmingly white and male. One California training program is trying to change that.

Nationwide, more than 90% of firefighters are men and about 85% are white, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In California, big-city departments such as Los Angeles and San Francisco are more diverse, following discrimination lawsuits and settlements that took years. But Marin County's fire department today is still more than 80% white. Marin County fire Capt. Rick Wonneberger says expanding diversity will help them be more effective as firefighters.
