🇸🇦🇸🇴⚡- Saudi Arabia and Somalia have agreed to a major deal which would link Somalia's General Authority of Transport in Buhodle, Khaatumo region, with the Ministry of Ports and Sea Transport in Laasqoray, on the coast of Puntland-controlled eastern Sanaag.
The deal also includes providing Saudi access to the Port of Laasqoray, which is currently used by the Turkish navy, and is undergoing expansion.
Note, both, Buhodle and Laasqoray, are in regions claimed by Hargeisa as Somaliland's territory.
📝 🇺🇸 🇻🇪 A Sobering take on Venezuela | CIG commentary
⬛️ Hesitant US oil companies are not that eager to jump into Venezuela, fearing it might be reminiscent of Iraq's oil by taking decades to make the financial and drilling returns that they want.
🔶️ Capturing Maduro did not dismantle the cartel networks and it remains undecided as to how much the new leadership will actually tolerate US demands.
🔶️ The US is not confident that regime change in Venezuela is beneficial. A failed state in America's backyard could saturate the Caribbean with stateless security threats.
🔶️ Is it really over so soon? The US has been striking boats for months and will continue to strike targets for an indefinite period of time. It could last years.
🔶️ The Iraq war had a 76% approval rating until 20 days turned into 20 years. Capturing Maduro is a great way to boost ratings with a lightning war, until that storm doesn't let up anytime soon.
🔶️ Most of the drugs are coming in through US ports aboard Chinese vessels. Do we really think that speedboats are going to evade law enforcement and somehow distribute their illicit cargo by offloading on US soil?
🔶️ How long will this spectacle last until it becomes apparent that the situation is not as effortlessly fluid as previously thought? Venezuela may require an OAS coalition of regional militaries to manage.
🔶️ The opposition was snubbed due to low expectations for them. Trump's actions have also been determined by his personal feelings on both Maduro and Machado.
🔶️ Since International law doesn't matter, Trump made this a domestic issue where a belligerent justice system may release Maduro.
⏳️ Lastly, this is far from over. Perhaps what we just saw was the end of the beginning. The US is once again lacking a clear day-after plan, which will require a swift adaptation to unintended second-order effects.

📝 🇺🇸 🇻🇪 The US captured Maduro, but it has not seized control of Venezuela. Even the puppet they propped up, Machado, who they handed a Nobel Peace Prize for this, no longer has US trust.
That alone shows how messy and unstable this situation really is.
The current interim president, backed by Russia and China, is openly opposed to US intervention.
No one knows what happens next.
But one thing is certain: less oil and gas will be produced... not more.
PDVSA, Venezuela’s state-run oil company, has announced it is shutting down production.

📖 🇮🇶 🛢 The world has lost Iraq’s oil - October 4, 2004
Instead of rosy promises by the neoconservatives of the Bush administration who pushed for the invasion — partly on the premise that they would turn it into America’s private gasoline-pumping station — the contrary has occurred.
Pipelines and oil terminals from the northern fields near Kirkuk to the southern export terminals near Basra are being blown up daily by various groups of insurgents. At last count, the northern pipeline that carries oil to the Turkish Mediterranean port of Ceyhan has been blown up 37 times in 12 months. Terminals in the south have been attacked at least 10 times, in effect shutting down all exports of crude oil.
What’s worse is that a large chunk of the oil revenues is not accounted for because of graft, theft, mayhem and the near-total absence of transparency within the transitional government of Prime Minister Ayad Allawi, according to aid agencies, which say they cannot see where the money is going. Oil traders go further. They say large amounts of oil are being stolen and smuggled onto ships, with Iraqi officials and traders splitting the returns. The Iraqi people and economy see no “trickle down” effect.
As for the country’s oil industry, once a proud mighty machinery of some 55,000 well-trained and highly disciplined technocrats, the situation is catastrophic. Oil fields are deteriorating for lack of maintenance, fires, accidents and lack of funds. Oil refineries that were looted in the first week of the war have yet to be repaired.

🛢 🇻🇪 🇺🇸 Venezuela today produces roughly 30 percent of the oil it produced fifteen years ago.
Returning to production levels near 3 million barrels per day would require close to a decade.
Any scenario of a substantial increase in oil production and foreign investment has something in common:
The need for the White House to be involved in guaranteeing the physical security of all energy investments in Venezuela, from the personnel to the equipment.

🛢 🇺🇸 🇻🇪 Three US oil majors have cautiously greeted Trump’s call for investment due to concerns about political instability, a history of expropriated assets in Venezuela and the vast sums required to boost production.
One industry insider said the chief executives of ExxonMobil, Chevron and ConocoPhillips were blindsided by the US military action.
⚡️ “None of the industry players that have the capital and the expertise to invest in Venezuela were advised or consulted prior to either the removal of Maduro or the president making his statements yesterday,” said the insider.

📝 🇻🇪 🛢 The idea that Venezuela will flood the oil market is the biggest lie being told right now.
Let’s look at how the US supposedly “flooded” the market
after taking control over Iraq’s and Libya’s oil.
Iraq:
- 2000 (pre-war / pre-sanctions): 2.8 mbpd
- 2003 (at war): 1.2 mbpd
- 2015: 3.5 mbpd
It took nearly a decade just to return to pre-war production
and 12 years to double output... despite Iraq’s massive reserves.
After the war, it was widely assumed Iraq could reach ~8 mbpd by 2020.
Fast forward to 2025, Iraq produces roughly half of that,
despite $220B in spending.
Libya followed a similar path:
- 2010 (pre-war peak): 1.7 mbpd
- Current production: ~1.3 mbpd
After 15 years, Libya still hasn’t reached its pre-war level.
Now look at Venezuela.
Unlike Iraq, Venezuela produces extra-heavy crude,
which is thick like tar:
- It doesn’t flow naturally... it must be melted to reach the surface
- Once extracted, it re-solidifies, requiring diluent for transport
- For every barrel exported, ~0.3 barrels of diluent must be imported
Venezuela's infrastructure is a mess:
- Venezuela suffers from regular blackouts
- Export terminals are degraded
- Its oil infrastructure is in worse shape than war-torn Iraq’s
In other words, Venezuela’s oil industry is harder, costlier, and far more time-consuming to rebuild.
From Libya to Iraq, US oil interventions tell a clear story:
it takes billions of dollars and a decade of work
just to return to pre-war production levels.
This time won’t be different.

📖 🇮🇶 🇻🇪 Not an exact comp for many reasons, but after invasion of Iraq in 2003, the West expected Iraq's largest oil field, West Qurna, could produce up to 2.5 mmbpd in phase I & 1.8 mmbpd in phase II. In reality, production never exceeded .6 and .5 respectively. Always easier on paper.

📝 🇺🇸 ⚖️ Adam Cochran on X:
"Judge Alvin Hellerstein is a Clinton era appointee who is (rightfully) a stickler for due process.
He is also a combat veteran, and has overseen some of the largest cases in US history, AND is the judge who shutdown Trumps BS about the “Enemy Aliens” claim.
*THIS* is why I said you have to follow the law with Maduro.
Because Cartel money buys good lawyers - and good lawyers know Maduro can walk on procedural claims.
Because even in a partisan SCOTUS, there is no world in which the Justices overturn a decision related directly to a blatant due process violation.
So you better hope like hell, that Hellerstein finds merit to every single pretrial action taken against Maduro, or else there are serious grounds for this being thrown out.
And I think the biggest hurdle will be the claim of jurisdiction, which Hellerstein will (rightly) *NOT* presume automatic."
