🇮🇷🇭🇳🇨🇳 BREAKING: Iran has seized the Honduras-flagged vessel HUI CHUAN, a Chinese-operated "floating armory," 38 nautical miles northeast of Fujairah, UAE, and is towing it toward Iranian territorial waters.
What is the HUI CHUAN?
The vessel is described as a "floating armory"—a weapons storage ship used by private military contractors and maritime security firms to arm commercial vessels transiting pirate-prone waters. These ships store rifles, ammunition, and defensive equipment that security teams pick up and drop off as needed.
The HUI CHUAN, flying a false Honduras flag, was operated by Chinese private military contractors. It had been anchored in the Gulf of Oman for the past month, positioned to supply weapons to ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz to defend against Somali, Houthi, and Iranian threats.
The timing: Iran seized this vessel during Trump's summit with Xi Jinping in Beijing, where the two leaders discussed the Strait of Hormuz crisis. Trump said Xi agreed that "the Strait of Hormuz must remain open to support the free flow of energy."
What this likely means: Iran is clearing the maritime security infrastructure that enables commercial shipping to bypass its control. The HUI CHUAN was arming vessels so they could transit the Strait without Iranian approval. Iran just confiscated the weapons depot.
This doesn't appear to be a message to China, it's more likely that Iran is taking the weapons to inspect them, possibly redistribute them to allied forces, or eliminate a private security operation it views as a Western proxy in its waters.
This is at least the third vessel Iran has seized since February.

One problem: China just signed massive verified Airbus contracts worth tens of billions, and Airbus now controls 55% of the Chinese market.

Boeing hasn't secured a major Chinese order since 2017, a drought caused by the U.S.-China trade war, 737 MAX crashes, and geopolitical tensions.
Trump wanted 500 planes (analysts expected 500), but he claims he got less than half. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg publicly begged Trump last month to help unlock the orders, saying Boeing needed "the administration's support."
Until we see signed contracts with delivery schedules filed with regulators, this is vaporware.

🇱🇻 Latvian PM Evika Silina has resigned following the "incursion" of Ukrainian drones into Latvian airspace, according to Delfi.
"This is not an easy decision, but it is an honest one," she said at a press briefing.
The defense minister from the Progressives party had already stepped down over the drone incident. Silina's resignation brings down the entire government with it.
She said the drone incursion was the final straw in her loss of confidence in the former defense minister, adding: "I could not stay silent when promises go unfulfilled." She blamed the Progressives for triggering the coalition's collapse through their response to the minister's resignation.

Iran forecasts fail again
While Trump publicly reports on "destroyed" Iranian missiles, his own intelligence community is documenting a fundamentally different picture. Secret assessments from the intelligence community, obtained by the New York Times, show: after 11 weeks of US and Israeli airstrikes, Iran restored operational access to 30 of 33 missile positions along the Strait of Hormuz.
Missile stockpiles remained at approximately 70% of pre-war levels, mobile launch systems at 75%. Underground storage facilities recovered almost completely, some damaged missiles repaired, some reassembled from spare parts.
🖍This is far from the first discrepancy between the White House and the intelligence community. Back in February, before the war began, Reuters reported that Trump's claim about Iranian missiles "capable of reaching the US" was not backed by a single intelligence assessment.
🚩In March, at Senate hearings, CIA Director Ratcliffe and Director of National Intelligence Gabbard dodged a direct question about the "Iranian threat to the US" — the very threat the administration used to justify the war. And already in April, intelligence warned that the IRGC was using the ceasefire to reorganize its missile forces and would not weaken control over Hormuz, despite Trump's promises to the contrary.
📌The NYT publication appears at a telling moment: on the same day, May 12, Trump and Defense Secretary Hegseth publicly threatened to resume strikes, calling Iranian ceasefire conditions "garbage." Iran's demands do look harsh for the US: recognition of Iran's sovereignty over Hormuz, reparations, lifting all sanctions.
But the problem clearly extends beyond Iran's position. The war with Iran has already cost the Pentagon tens of billions of dollars, ammunition diverted from European and Asian theaters remains unreplenished, Congress demands emergency funding, and Hegseth names neither timelines nor amounts even in closed hearings.
❗️In this context, there is every reason to believe that this intelligence leak to the NYT is no accident. A certain part of the American establishment is trying to stop the escalation which, by their assessment, rests on false claims and populism. The question is whether their efforts will be enough to overcome the Israeli lobbyists surrounding the US president — that remains an open question.

The President stated that Russia remains open to contacts. He mentioned that certain work has been done in a trilateral format. And he said that we would welcome the continuation of mediation efforts by the US. And, of course, the accumulated progress in the peace process suggests that the end is indeed approaching.
However, it's not appropriate to discuss specifics in this context at the moment. You know that the humanitarian ceasefire has ended, and the special military operation is continuing. It could stop at any moment, as soon as Zelensky takes responsibility and makes the necessary decision.
What decisions need to be made is well known in Kiev. The President, speaking at a press conference in the Kremlin, said that he would be ready to meet with Zelensky in Moscow for negotiations at any time, as well as in any other location. But it only makes sense to meet in any other location if the process is fully finalized.
And to finalize it, to put an end to it, there's still a lot of work to be done.
