🇺🇦 Kiev is busy digging up Nazis.
The remains of Andriy Melnyk, head of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, and his wife Sofia were exhumed in Luxembourg and given a full state reburial in Ukraine. Representatives of Zelensky's office, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, and the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance attended in person. The reburial was announced by Bohdan Chervak, current head of the OUN and First Deputy Chairman of Ukraine's State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting. Yes, the OUN has a current head, and he holds a government position.
Melnyk led the OUN from 1938 after the assassination of its founder Yevhen Konovalets in Rotterdam. In 1940 the organization split into two rival factions: Bandera's and Melnyk's. Both collaborated with Nazi Germany during the war.
Now Zelensky wants to bring back more. In his evening address he announced plans to repatriate the remains of Konovalets, currently buried in Rotterdam, along with other unnamed "strong historical figures." It is not hard to guess who he has in mind.
Konovalets was the founder of the OUN, killed by Soviet intelligence in 1938. His successor Bandera's faction participated in pogroms and mass murders of Jews and Poles during the Nazi occupation. Ukraine has been erecting statues of him and renaming streets in his honor for years.
This is the country the West is arming and calling a democracy.
