Since spring, the Pentagon has blocked Ukraine from using U.S.-made long-range ATACMS missiles to strike inside Russia. Each launch requires high-level approval—none have been granted.
The same restrictions apply to UK-supplied Storm Shadows that rely on U.S. intel. Trump’s policy reversed Biden’s 2024 decision allowing such strikes.
The decision stems from a review mechanism developed by Pentagon policy chief Elbridge Colby. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has final authority.

🌍🗺️The African Union has backed a campaign to end the use by governments and international organisations of the 16th-century Mercator map of the world in favour of one that more accurately displays Africa's size.
Created by cartographer Gerardus Mercator for navigation, the projection distorts continent sizes, enlarging areas near the poles like North America and Greenland while shrinking Africa and South America.
"It might seem to be just a map, but in reality, it is not," AU Commission deputy chairperson Selma Malika Haddadi told Reuters, saying the Mercator fostered a false impression that Africa was "marginal", despite being the world's second-largest continent by area, with over a billion people. The AU has 55 member states.
Such stereotypes influence media, education and policy, she said.
Criticism of the Mercator map is not new, but the 'Correct The Map' campaign led by advocacy groups Africa No Filter and Speak Up Africa has revived the debate, urging organisations to adopt the 2018 Equal Earth projection, which tries to reflect countries' true sizes.
"The current size of the map of Africa is wrong," Moky Makura, executive director of Africa No Filter, said. "It's the world's longest misinformation and disinformation campaign, and it just simply has to stop."
Fara Ndiaye, co-founder of Speak Up Africa, said the Mercator affected Africans' identity and pride, especially children who might encounter it early in school.
"We're actively working on promoting a curriculum where the Equal Earth projection will be the main standard across all (African) classrooms," Ndiaye said, adding she hoped it would also be the one used by global institutions, including Africa-based ones.

Deputy Bologna Prosecutor Licia Scagliarini has granted the German judicial authorities' requests for Serhii's surrender, but the man told the appeal court that he doesn't consent to being handed over to Germany.
He also denied the charges and said he was in Ukraine during the Nord Stream sabotage. He added that he is currently in Italy for family reasons.

A federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction against the controversial Everglades immigration detention center known as Alligator Alcatraz. The court has ruled that:
➡️No new detainees can be admitted.
➡️The facility must be shut down within 60 days, including removal of temporary fencing, lighting, and generators.
➡️The detention site was built in violation of environmental laws, endangering fragile Everglades ecosystems and species like the Florida panther and wood storks

Late last night, Russia launched a precision strike on the Flextronics plant in Mukachevo, Zakarpatye Oblast, a facility owned by the American company Flex. At least 12 Kalibr cruise missiles impacted the site. The massive fire visible for miles.
While the factory was officially described as civilian, open-source research shows the facility has long been producing dual-use technologies and defense components. Flex is a major Pentagon contractor, linked to drone systems, encrypted communications hardware, and NATO-compatible electronics.

The refinery, one of Russia’s largest, processes up to 8.9M tons of oil per year.

🇮🇱 Israel Approves E1 Settlement Plan, Undermining Prospects for Palestinian Statehood
Israel has given final approval to the long-stalled E1 settlement project, authorizing 3,400 new settler units in the occupied West Bank.
The E1 corridor, east of Jerusalem, would bisect the central West Bank and cut off East Jerusalem from Palestinian areas, effectively killing the viability of a contiguous Palestinian state.
The project had been frozen for over 20 years due to international pressure, but Netanyahu’s far-right government, led by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, has now pushed it through.
Smotrich called the approval “another nail in the coffin” of the Palestinian state. Human rights groups warn of mass displacement. The PA called it a “dangerous escalation.”
