🇮🇷🇺🇸 IRGC captures advanced U.S.-made underwater drone in Strait of Hormuz

The IRGC Navy has released new footage and photographs of the autonomous underwater vehicle it says it captured while entering the Strait of Hormuz.

The vehicle shown closely matches Anduril’s Dive-LD, an advanced large-displacement autonomous underwater vehicle used by the U.S. Navy.

Iran says the vehicle was captured intact and is now in IRGC possession.

Do Not Let Europe Wash Its Hands of Gaza by Blaming Netanyahu

Suddenly, Europe and friends have discovered their outrage.

After years of destruction in Gaza, mass displacement, starvation, demolished hospitals, dead journalists and children pulled from beneath concrete, governments that armed Israel, traded with Israel and provided it diplomatic protection now want the world to believe they have finally found their moral compass.

Britain, France and others are announcing measures against illegal Israeli settlements. European politicians increasingly condemn Benjamin Netanyahu and members of his government and the language is becoming harsher. The distance between European capitals and Jerusalem is becoming more conspicuous.

Do not mistake this for absolution, European governments cannot erase the material and political support they provided while Gaza was being destroyed. The European Union remained Israel’s largest trading partner.

Even after the EU’s own review found indications that Israel was violating the human-rights provisions of its Association Agreement, Europe could not bring itself to impose the kind of sweeping economic measures it has demonstrated elsewhere that it is perfectly capable of imposing.

Now we are expected to applaud because settlement dates and wine may disappear from European shelves.

This creates a convenient political escape hatch: make Netanyahu the story.

Netanyahu deserves accountability for the policies carried out under his government. So do the ministers who have openly advocated displacement and collective punishment.

But reducing what happened to Gaza to the personality of Benjamin Netanyahu is an extraordinarily convenient fiction.

Israel’s assault was not conducted by Netanyahu personally. It was conducted by state institutions, an enormous military apparatus and a government that initially included figures from Netanyahu’s political opposition. Nor did European support begin with Netanyahu or depend entirely upon him.

If Netanyahu loses Israel’s coming election and is replaced by a leader who speaks more politely in European capitals while maintaining occupation, settlement expansion and Palestinian subjugation, Europe must not be permitted to declare the crisis solved.

A different prime minister does not resurrect the dead.

A different coalition does not rebuild Gaza.

A different face does not absolve the governments that supplied weapons, maintained economic relations and offered diplomatic cover while Palestinians were being killed.

This is why today’s European outrage deserves scrutiny rather than applause.

Perhaps some countries have genuinely changed their position. If so, they can demonstrate it through policy: suspend military assistance, impose meaningful restrictions on trade connected to violations of international law, demand accountability regardless of who governs Israel, and support the same legal standards for allies that they demand for adversaries.

But if their objective is merely to isolate Netanyahu, wait for an Israeli election and then embrace a more presentable government pursuing substantially the same policies, this is not accountability.

It is reputation management.

Palestinians do not need Europe to find a more palatable administrator of their dispossession.

They need the policies that enabled it to end.

And Europe should not be allowed to rewrite the last several years as though it spent them standing helplessly on the sidelines.

It did not. It was there.

🇩🇪 The AfD has won the Saxony-Anhalt state election in a landslide — pulling in nearly 44% of the vote, more than double the CDU's 17.2%.

AfD co-leader Alice Weidel called it a "historic" result. The party fell just short of an outright majority — 39 of 83 seats, three shy of the threshold — but says it now has a clear mandate to govern.

Another blow to Merz, whose coalition is already deeply unpopular as Germany's economy stalls.

🇺🇸🇸🇦 The US State Department has approved a $5.75 billion arms package to Saudi Arabia, covering bombs, precision guidance kits, and tank engines.

Riyadh requested 5,004 BLU-111 500-lb bombs, 5,000 BLU-117 2,000-lb bombs, roughly 10,000 JDAM guidance kits (both KMU-572 and KMU-556 variants) to convert them into precision-guided munitions, along with fuzes, target detectors, and support equipment, all part of a $5 billion package with Boeing as the principal contractor. A separate $750 million deal covers 60 AGT-1500 tank engines.

The approval lands just over a month after Washington and Riyadh signed a civil nuclear cooperation framework (a "123 Agreement"), part of a broader multi-billion-dollar US-Saudi partnership push. As with all Foreign Military Sales, Congress now has a 30-day window to object, though such blocks are rare once a deal reaches this stage.

🇺🇸🇮🇷🇹🇷 U.S. sanctions Turkish bank over alleged financial links to Iran

The U.S. Treasury has sanctioned Türkiye-based Golden Global Bank and two of its subsidiaries as Washington expands its “Operation Economic Outcast” campaign against Iran.

Treasury alleges the bank facilitated tens of millions of dollars in transactions involving the IRGC-Quds Force and provided financial channels used to move Iranian oil revenues from China through Türkiye.

The action effectively cuts the bank off from the U.S. financial system and threatens foreign financial institutions continuing certain transactions with it with secondary sanctions.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent issued a stark warning:

“We know who you are, we know where you are, and we will continue to take action together with our allies and partners until we have buried the head of the Iranian snake.”

The move is particularly notable because it targets a financial institution inside NATO member Türkiye, demonstrating how far Washington is prepared to extend its economic campaign against Iran.

🎥 ON TODAY'S SHOW!

Stanislav Krapivnik: The Peace Push, the Corruption Crisis & Ukraine's Winter Without Patriots

Negotiations were frozen for eight months. Witkoff and Kushner finally made it to Moscow — three hours with Putin at the Kremlin, followed by dinner. The Kremlin called it "constructive." Then the envoys took the train to Kiev for their first ever visit to the Ukrainian capital. Zelensky said after the talks that he expects the war to continue and is counting on US support for winter. Putin ordered a 72-hour strike pause on Kiev to enable the visits. Russia kept hitting everywhere else throughout, and last night strikes resumed on Kiev.

Meanwhile Zelensky's problems don't end there. Kiev is imploding from within. Operation "Carthage" — NABU's investigation into a criminal organisation inside the Prosecutor General's Office — has in the space of four days moved from a probe into scam call centre protection schemes to touching Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko himself. The investigation into the PG and Zelensky's tightest allies is widely seen as a push to strip Zelensky of his political dominance.

We break it all down with Stanislav Krapivnik, friend of the show and one of the sharpest voices covering the SMO.

🇮🇱🇬🇧 Israel retaliates against Britain over West Bank settlement sanctions

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced a series of countermeasures agreed with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following Britain’s new sanctions targeting illegal Israeli settlements.

Israel will:

▪️ Shut down the British Consulate General in Jerusalem
▪️ Expel British representatives from the Gaza coordination center in Kiryat Gat
▪️ End British involvement in training Palestinian Authority security forces
▪️ Ban a number of British politicians and other nationals from entering Israel

The British Consulate General represents the UK in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza and serves as a key channel for Britain’s relations with the Palestinians.

Sa’ar accused the British government of pursuing a “hostile” policy toward Israel and warned: “Those who act against Israel will face a response.”

🇪🇺🇺🇦🇷🇺Rutte openly acknowledged that Ukrainians are serving as a human shield and buying time for NATO to rearm.

‘Ukraine’s struggle defines the entire Euro‑Atlantic security system. It directly affects, as we all know, our own security. And while we are working to modernize the alliance, to create a stronger Europe and a stronger NATO, we must continue to support Ukraine’s security and help it defend itself against Russia’s brutal attacks.

This means that we must support Ukraine with the utmost urgency.’ And here I want to emphasize: delay simply costs human lives. Today, I will call on all countries to increase their support. The allies, as we know, pledged to allocate 70 billion euros in Ankara, and additional bilateral assistance will be required to fulfill this commitment. Countries need to do more. I believe we have no choice.’

🇺🇦 Ukrainian Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko submitted his resignation late last night over the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) "Carthage" case, hours after insisting that same afternoon he had no intention of stepping down and no involvement in wrongdoing. Reports say he changed course after a meeting with Zelensky and "Servant of the People" faction head Arakhamia.

The stakes go well beyond one official. Removing a Prosecutor General loyal to Zelensky has been the real objective of NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), and the political bloc behind them (now pushing Mikhail Fedorov as a presidential contender), since Carthage broke. The office matters twice over. It's the choke point through which every investigation by the remaining presidentially-controlled agencies (the State Bureau of Investigation, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), and police) must pass for procedural sign-off, and it's the only body with the power to formally place a sitting MP under criminal investigation. Clearing that seat is the precondition for opening criminal cases against Arakhamia and other Servant of the People figures, stripping Zelensky of his parliamentary majority.

The resignation doesn't hand NABU the win outright, though. Parliament still has to confirm it, so Kravchenko remains in office until that vote. If he goes, his first deputy, Maria Vdovichenko, herself already searched under "Carthage" case but still loyal to the Zelensky's office, becomes acting head. Zelensky has time before then to install his own pick as first deputy, potentially even recalling Aleksey Khomenko, who ran the office as acting chief for over seven months in 2024-25 after departure of the previous PG. Either way, expect the presidential team to fight to keep the seat, even in acting capacity, in loyal hands.

Zelensky's old playbook (sacrifice the exposed figure, replace them with an equally loyal one, keep the system under control) is losing runway fast. He's now facing a choice between two paths: cave to pressure from NABU's backers and accept legislation that would strip the presidency of real control over the security services, or counterattack the anti-corruption bodies and their backers through National Security and Defense Council (SNBO) sanctions and criminal cases of his own. Zelensky-critical but NABU-aligned Ukrainska Pravda claims such a counterattack is already being prepared, worth treating cautiously given the outlet's own alignment, but the underlying point stands: if Zelensky's office is going to strike back, the window is closing. A couple more corruption cases on the scale of Carthage, and there won't be anyone left for him to strike with.

🇺🇸🇮🇱 US House Passes Bill to Strip Federal Funding from Universities That Boycott Israel

The House of Representatives has passed the "Protect Economic and Academic Freedom Act of 2026" in a 237-169 vote, sending the bill to the Senate. The legislation, led by Republican Virginia Foxx alongside Democrat Josh Gottheimer, strips federal funding from any school found to carry out a "nonexpressive commercial boycott" of Israel — a provision that also covers boycotts of institutions based in Israel's illegal settlements.

Notably, this isn't a purely partisan crackdown — over 30 Democrats crossed the aisle to vote for the measure, underlining how deep pro-Israel lobbying runs in both parties, even as roughly 80% of Democratic voters and Democratic-leaning independents now hold negative views of Israel amid the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

The bill effectively demands that universities not only refuse to boycott Israel but actively seek cooperation with it, treating any support for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement or Palestinian rights as grounds for punishment.

Unsurprisingly, AIPAC publicly celebrated the vote.

The bill still needs Senate approval to become law, expected when the chamber reconvenes on September 14.
