Bayern Munich’s Jonas Urbig has had big shoes to fill since Manuel Neuer’s calf injury suffered celebrating a goal against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League round of 16. Despite being thrown into the deep end at the tender age of 21, Urbig has proved that he is certainly capable of swimming, displaying confidence with the ball at his feet and a solid shot-stopping ability.The former FC Köln keeper put in another convincing display against FC Heidenheim, but was more focused on his side’s victory.“I’m happy to have gotten the win here with the team. That was important,” said a relieved Urbig (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It’s really difficult in Heidenheim; some top teams have struggled here. If you’re not 100% focused both offensively and defensively, things can get nasty here. But we responded brilliantly. We played well, created many chances, and deservedly won 4-0. The focus now is on Mainz 05.”In spite of Urbig’s decent performances, peppered with a scant few mistakes, the clean sheet against Heidenheim came as his first in the Bundesliga with Bayern, failing to do so in his previous five attempts. With the correct coaching and leadership, Bayern fan’s may be witnessing the rise of Die Rekordmeister’s heir eventual to an ageing Manuel Neuer. 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga It’s been a packed fixtures list and Bayern has struggled recently to maintain consistency, especially with all of their mounting injuries. Bayern Munich shook off their Champions League exit disappointment at the hands of Inter with an emphatic 4-0 Bundesliga win over Heidenheim at the Voith-Arena. Goals from Harry Kane, Konrad Laimer, Kingsley Coman and Joshua Kimmich saw that Bayern is now only two wins away from lifting the Meisterschale, but that could certainly change these next couple of weeks if Bayer Leverkusen have any sort of slip-ups themselves.Even with the amount of injuries Vincent Kompany has been dealt with as the season reaches its crucial, closing stages, Bayern made a strong account of themselves in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals at Inter. They fell just short, losing 4-3 on aggregate, which means that there is now added impetus to wrapping up the Bundesliga title. By this time last season, Leverkusen had already wrapped up the title mathematically, but its Bayern’ time to return to the top of the German footballing pedestal.After the 4-0 routing of Heidenheim, Kimmich, who scored Bayern’s fourth goal of the match, stressed the importance of the Rekordmeister needing to exhibit a level of consistency, which they have not necessarily done for parts of this season across all fronts. “We always want to be there in important moments. But the reality is that every 3 days is important. Every game is important. We can’t say that only the Champions League is important and not the Bundesliga. We felt that today and saw how we celebrated every goal. It was a very important step towards the title,” the midfielder stressed (via @iMiaSanMia). 1. But we’re not really looking at them. We have to win at least two more games to secure the title,” he emphasized.Having already tallied 87 league goals from the 30 matches played so far, Bayern has the chance to clinch the title and reach a century of goals on the season in doing so, which would improve on the 94 goals they scored last season, albeit in a season that included losing eight league matches. Last season, we reached the semifinals with that squad. Our squad is already good. Of course ,we’re constantly refreshing it. We’re keeping an eye on all parts of the team.”When asked again about potential new signings in defense, Eberl got annoyed and replied: “Can we play the game today?”Finally, Eberl then was asked whether the CL exit was due to Vincent Kompany’s game plan: “I don’t want to constantly correct you. Bayern Munich are back to winning ways after dispatching FC Heidenheim 4-0 in what looked like a mismatch from the get go.The result and dominant display comes at a perfect time. Following Bayern’s midweek Champions League crash out to Inter Milan, fans were certainly in need of some rejuvenation. Konrad Laimer, touched on his sides reaction against Heidenheim following Wednesday evening’s disappointing result.“We wanted to show a reaction today. As the coach said, we can’t change the past,” said the Austrian international and scorer of one of Bayern’s four goals (via @iMiaSanMia). “We did well today, defensively and going forward - and deservedly won 4-0. I think it was a good reaction.” The Bavarians still have the Bundesliga to play for and despite being nine points ahead of the defending champions, Bayer Leverkusen, can hardly afford any slip ups. One of those names, Kim Min-jae, just so happens to be at the top of a Bundesliga statistic, but in this particular case it may not be something to brag about. According to a statistic compiled by WhoScored.com, no other player in the Bundesliga this season has committed as many errors, that have led to a goal, as Kim Min-jae. The Korean international clearly hasn’t had the best season in his career this year.Fans will be quick to criticize him, but this stat doesn’t cancel out his other world-class contributions to Bayern’s victories. Min-jae has been quite instrumental to a lot of important matches for the club, but just has his awkward moments. Nevertheless, Vincent Kompany has surely had his talk with Kim.

A big key to that ambition is Jonas Urbig, who needs to hold down the fort until Manuel Neuer is deemed ready to go. Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany thinks the young goalkeeper is up to the task. “That’s one of the positive stories we have to take with us. Despite the injuries, we have 100% confidence that we can make it with Jonas Urbig and the other guys. What Jonas and the guys have shown so far is that they can deliver the performances that will bring us the results. Jonas is very young. The pressure is not on his shoulders. The pressure is always on the experienced players.We’re taking Jonas’ energy and talent with us. Prior to Bayern Munich’s 4-0 victory over Heidenheim, a report from broke Sport1 journalist Stefan Kumberger which indicated that club higher-ups were unhappy with Joshua Kimmich’s performance vs. Inter Milan: Joshua Kimmich’s performance against Inter was critically discussed within the club after the second leg. It wasn’t because the performance was particularly poor, but because Bayern simply expect more from him. Internally, Bayern bosses value Kimmich’s attitude and his willingness to lead the way for his teammates - that’s why his contract was extended in the first place.This reeks of “we paid you to be better than this” and the bosses have a point. Kimmich is no long “the kid.” He is — for all intents and purposes — the team’s chosen leader and while he was not terrible against Inter Milan, those kind of games do represent chances to “step up.” Kimmich did not exactly do that, but it would be hard to argue anyone did. Live and learn, but — if true — it does appear that Bayern Munich’s bosses are seeking a higher return on their investment. FBL-GER-BUNDESLIGA-HEIDENHEIM-BAYERN MUNICH Bayern Munich is one step closer to the Bundesliga title... Die Folgen: Bayern’s 4-0 win over Heidenheim (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich arrived in Heidenheim looking for a fight (maybe that focus would have come in handy earlier this week), but the home side was lifeless, hapless, and pretty much dead on arrival.That led to Bayern Munich putting forth one of its most dominant showings of the season. It was good to see the Bavarians not fall into a trap of feeling sorry for themselves after being eliminated from the Champions League by Inter Milan earlier this week.Make no mistake, Heidenheim was as flat as a pancake, but Bayern Munich did exactly what it needed to do. Let’s dive into it, here are some quick hitters on the match: As always, let’s begin with a look at the starting XI: !

Thomas Müller was sent back to the bench, Kim Min-jae was given a (long overdue) rest, and Leroy Sané was rested as well. To compensate Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, and Michael Olise occupied the the three attacking spots behind Harry Kane. Otherwise, Raphaël Guerreiro stepped in at left-back, Josip Stanišić set up at center-back. and Aleksandar Pavlović covered for injured midfielder Leon Goretzka. Kompany needed to rest Min-jae as criticism for his handling of the defender continues to mount, while Sané just has not lit the world afire at left-wing. That opened the door for the coach to get creative with his attack. Müller’s benching was not altogether shocking, but with such limited time left in his Bayern Munich career, it would have been great to see him in the XI.Heidenheim using “Sirius” by the Alan Parsons Project (aka the Chicago Bulls intro song) from was...something.Disappointingly, Paul Wanner did not start for Heidenheim. Fellow Bayern Munich loanee Frans Krätzig did get a spot in Heidenheim’s starting XI, but spent the majority of the game on his heels. Krätzig, though, was one of his team’s better players.Gnabry should have given Bayern Munich a lead in the 8th minute, but fired his attempt right at Heidenheim goalkeeper Kevin Müller.Bayern Munich was flying early and desperately trying to create chances, but it was leaving large gaps of space all over the field. It was very clear that the Bavarians did not feel threatened by Heidenheim and were comfortable taking risks. The frenetic pacing of the Bayern Munich attack would eventually pay off as Olise slid a pass centrally from the right win to Kane, who simply turned and ripped a left-footed from form about 20 yards for a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. In the 19th minute, Bayern Munich asserted its dominance once again when Gnabry sprung Konrad Laimer (!?) with a longball that left the Austrian in a 1-v-none with Heidenheim goalkeeper Kevin Müller. Laimer cooly deposited the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. Honestly, that was more composure than Coman or Sané showed in similar chances this season. We can probably add Kane to that list as he missed a header from about one yard out in the 22nd minute. This season, man...Seriously, though, Kane has been good during this campaign — and that header attempt was not exactly a gimme as Kane had to lay out for it — but this team has had some bouts with inefficiency in front of the net during this campaign. Speaking of which, Olise had a golden opportunity to make it 3-0 in the 29th minute, but his attempt was turned away by Heidenheim’s Müller.In the 36th minute, Bayern Munich would score again...albeit in a less impressive way. Kane sent in a ball centrally toward Guerreiro who fired his shot directly into Heidenheim’s Müller. Coman corralled in the rebound, dribbled, and put a somewhat mild shot into the near post from the right side that somehow evaded Müller. Just like that, it was 3-0 and the rout was on. The first half was just fun and free…

Just prior to Bayern Munich’s 4-0 victory over Heidenheim, an interesting report dropped from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, who stated that defender Josip Stanišić will be viewed as a center-back for next season: As previously revealed: Josip #Stanisic is being considered by FC Bayern as a centre-back option for next season.Today, he starts as the left-sided centre-back alongside Eric Dier in Heidenheim.The big question moving forward for Bayern Munich on Stanišić now appears to be closer to an answer. As Bayern Munich approaches the end of the 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign, it becomes imperative for them to take every win and every clean sheet. The Bavarians faced Heidenheim away for what was slated to be a mostly easy game. They emerged victorious with a 4-0 win with a series of beautiful goals. Joshua Kimmich found himself on the score sheet with a 56th minute goal, which was the 4th and final goal. Reacting to the win, the skipper declared that the win was important. “We can’t underestimate today’s win,” he said. “Especially the way we played today was impressive,” he said, as recorded by @iMiaSanMia. “We all were disappointed after Wednesday and wanted to show a reaction today,” he explained, referring to the 4-3 aggregate loss against Inter Milan and the subsequent exit from the Champions League. “Maybe it looks easy from the outside, but it was an important and good win,” he declared.

Bayern Munich ended their winless woes by recording a 4-0 win against FC Heidenheim thanks to goals from Harry Kane, Konrad Laimer, Kingsley Coman, and Joshua Kimmich. Here are some observations from what was a blowout of a game as Bayern edged closer to the Bundesliga title. Some beautiful, unserious footballIn the first half, Bayern played an unconventional set-up and style of football. There was a lack of structure, particularly defensively, prioritizing pressing Heidenheim in their own half while churning out a variety of decent chances. It was fluid and loose, perhaps too fluid as it often forgoed a clear backline, nor did it make use of distinct attacking channels. It is an approach that could be described as outrageous and unserious at times, furthered by the many moments in the match which seemed uncharacteristic of the modern game, which prioritizes a far more structured and planned approach. The system saw a back three system whose constituents constantly changed, played in a manner that goes against all traditional rules of a system akin to it.Yet, it worked like a dream. A large part of that can be attributed to Bayern’s utter dominance of the ball over Heidenheim, who simply couldn't seem to retain it for themselves due to their high susceptibility to press and a gap in ability between the two teams that appeared so large, the first half seemed like a pre-season friendly. Bayern’s unserious, almost playful approach, combined with Heidenheim’s extremely lackluster performance, allowed for a deeply enjoyable game for Bayern fans.The approach created chances in a variety of areas that were subsequently converted in world-class fashion. It was a breath of fresh air after what had been a troubling week, and saw some beautiful goals from Kane and Coman. Bayern needed this, and so did the fans. Sure, it wouldn’t work against a better opponent. But it worked tonight. What’s that? Bayern converted their chances!?As an extension of the discussion concerning the high quality of the goals scored tonight, it displayed what Bayern needs in the final third. The Kane goal, a perfectly placed strike from outside the box, is the type of goal only a striker as experienced and well-versed in the game as Kane could score, but it’s the exact type of goal that has been missing from his catalog as of recent. The ability to score out of thin air with the smallest chance you get is what this Bayern team has been looking for and not yet found. It is only then that you can afford to miss the bigger chances.This extends to Coman’s goal, and even to chance creation. Gnabry’s incredible assist to Laimer and his many attempts at goal throughout the game come from quick and unexpected decisions going forward. The same can be said about Raphaël Guerreiro.Bayern’s overreliance on systematic chance creation allows teams to predict and pre-empt their goalscoring opportunities, which makes it all the worse when Bayern begin to squander these chances at a higher rate than usual. The missing factor is surprise. It is not something that can be coached, and it comes from a player’s decision-making ability within existing systems. Today’s system amplified the players’ decision-making and displayed how important this surprise element can be in games. Youth and substitutions When you are 4-0 up at the 60th minute in a game you have full control over, it is foolish not to introduce youth players into the game. Kompany’s substitutions tonight left a lot to be desired. Bringing on Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané, and João Palhinha (that late?!) is simply not the right thing to do in such a situation. It is gutting that aside from Gabriel Vidovic, promising youth talents like Lennart Karl and Jonah Kusi-Asare did not get minutes. It would have been a fantastic opportunity for both.How can the club have expectations for youth development if there is a certain unwillingness from the coach to play Bayern’s academy…

Bayern Munich complete a victory against FC Heidenheim to stay ahead in the race foe the Bundesliga. The 4-0 scoreline is a fairly accurate reflection of the one-sided nature of the match as the 16th placed Heidenheim hardly gave a fight to the visitors. The blues from the loss to Inter Milan have not faded. Fatigue from the heavy game load did have its impact. Seeing opposition hardly bother them, the Bavarians took the game at an easy pace. Nonetheless, gear up for some heavy fire aimed at Bayern, these are the match awards:Jersey swap: NobodyHeidenheim was totally overpowered by the visitors. Bayern’s aura, in fact, kept the homeside from taking too many risks. However, that strategy failed to bear fruit as Bayern put three goals before the end of the first half. Heidenheim needed at least one goal to inspire some counterattack, but it never came. Of course, one could throw in Bayern’s finishing as a worthy contender. Missing five big chances and being as wasteful as ever, Bayern continue to be a great team but with a couple of severe weaknesses namely finishing and set-pieces.Der Kaiser: Eric Dier FC Internazionale Milano v FC Bayern München - UEFA Champions League 2024/25 Quarter Final Second Leg Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images/DeFodi via Getty Images Dier was once again a rock at the back. Winning seven (!) aerial duels, he thwarted Heidenheim’s attempt to catch Bayern off guard with long balls. Dier was paired up with Josip Stanišić and the duo looked pretty decent. The communication needs some work as in one instance Stanišić’s aggressive commitment allowed Sirlord Conteh to take a shot on goal. It was similar to the Inter goal at home where Sacha Boey made a wrong call giving space to the opposite winger. This time however, Jonas Urbig did very well to save that shot and preserve the clean sheet. Dier himself fumbled in covering his attacker, but overall he gets the award for doing his job as the core around which the Bayern defence played. Stanišić deserves a shoutout. Called on to fill in for Kim Min-jae at central defence, the 25-year-old has been a solid utility option for Bayern.Fußballgott: Joshua Kimmich 1. Shuffling the ball around, contesting the midfield space while looking to split open the opposition with a through ball. Kimmich created three chances, made the most passes and sent 21 passes into the final third. His goal in the 56th minute was the cherry on top. It was a typical Kimmich goal.Despite all those positives, his two usual negatives showed up once again. Firstly, he is still liable to get traffic-coned, no offense to any die-hard Kimmich fans. Secondly, the corner kick duties need to be rotated. Kimmich does not deserve to take every corner for Bayern. Big shoutout to Konrad Laimer. Despite playing from right-back,Laimer was the engine for the Bayern during the first half. Chipping in, both in attack and defence, the Austrian left his impact on the game with an assist.Der Bomber: Michael Olise 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by M. Today was no different as Olise was at the forefront of his side’s attack. Creating a game high five chances and with three of his five shots on goal, Olise continues to be the best winger at the club.Meister of the match: NobodyHeidenheim should have been buried and they did get buried with the big finish of 0-4. Like many fans of the club, Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund lamented the broken dreams that came along with being eliminated from the Champions League by Inter Milan. “It was our big dream, and it’s shattered. That’s part of football. The circumstances weren’t all that easy. We discussed efficiency and the little details that made the difference,” said Freund (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I don’t think the team will let itself be down. There are two aspects: the performance – which has been very decent in recent weeks – and what came out of it: We didn’t achieve that. Nevertheless, the team is on the right track. We have a big goal for the next few weeks: to win back the Bundesliga title.”Freund was also recently asked about whether or not the club made a mistake by not adding another striker to the roster. The sporting director did not think it was an issue. “We have a lot of players who can score goals. We’ve scored a lot of goals in the league and the Champions League. We’re very well equipped offensively,” Freund said.
