As most of you know, and have discussed about in our chat, the newly introduced overhaul to Ingress' rendering pipeline also introduced a small bug which caused the ornaments of the Layers functionality to be displayed over the core of portals, instead of behind them.

Alex Stamm, technical artist at Niantic, in a reply to a Resistance Agent on Twitter, stated that the bug has been found, triaged and a fix will be deployed with the next Ingress Update.

Niantic has officially announced the Countdown to 2025 event!

You'll be able to complete sets of Bounties each day for special rewards, with the Bounties refreshing each day. They don't carry over to the next day, so make sure to complete them all each day! The event will run from the 22nd to the 31st of December local time.

Also, starting January 1st at 00:00 UTC, the "New Year 2025" festive medal will be available in the store for 2500 CMU!

The time is now: the Erased Memories Series will be decided in the next 3 hours.

Nashville, Tennessee, USA is the theatre of the final XM Anomaly of the Season and of 2024. In this last quarter, Enlightened and Resistance battled it out in one Global Challenge, 57 Skirmishes, 2 XM Anomalies (the third one starting now) and 2 Bounty Blitzes, none of them managing to secure the victory in advance.

It all led to this precise moment.
Assuming that all 40 points of the Covert Cache will be assigned, the Enlightened need 63.9 points to win the Series, the Resistance needs 162.3 points to stop them and clinch the victory for themselves. We are on the edge of our seats, with the breathtaking finale of the previous season still vivid in our minds.

Agents, make your Factions proud! It's time to move. It's time for the Erased Memories Finale!

During the night, we received the final report from Agent @Himav at the Nashville GORUCK Stealth OPS, including the final score after the last three challenges featuring push-ups, crunches and... rock-paper-scissors!

The Enlightened clinched the win in this nocturnal physical challenge by 4-3!

🇳🇿🇺🇸 The final and decisive Erased Memories Anomaly weekend has begun for Christchurch, New Zealand and Nashville, TN, USA.

The first points have already been scored in these events, with Agents showing their strength and power in the GORUCK challenges!
The GORUCK Stealth OPS in Christchurch have concluded several hours ago with the score of ENL 2 - 5 RES.

At this time, the same event is ongoing in Nashville, with Agents reporting that the Resistance is currently leading the score, having won the first challenge! ENL 0 - 1 RES

Niantic will hold a "Countdown to 2025" event! This event will run from December 15th to December 31st and will offer special bounties to complete.

From the looks of it, there will be two distinct periods. The first period will run for 7 days from December 15th to December 21st local time as one batch. The second period will run from December 22nd to December 31st local time, but instead of one batch it seems like bounties will refresh each day.

The specific details of this event, such as the Bounties, Rewards as well as other potential boni are unknown at the moment. Please note that this post should be seen as a rumor until Niantic officially announces the event on their news blog.

Alex, a Technical Artist for Ingress, shares details about a significant graphics update in Scanner version 2.156.1. The update upgrades the game’s rendering system to Unity’s Universal Render Pipeline (URP), focusing on performance optimization, stability, and reduced battery usage. Key improvements include:

🔸 Performance Enhancements:
- Optimized lighting and rewritten shaders to reduce processing overhead.
  - Updated rendering assets to disable unnecessary features like shadows and minimize post-processing.
  - Applied object pooling for better map performance.
  - Adjusted animations for faster app startup and interactions (e.g., faster drone moves and profile loading).

🔸Native Refresh Rate:
  - Devices now render at their native frame rate for better battery life and reduced overhead, leveraging native APIs like Metal on iOS.

🔸Results:
- The update significantly improves app startup (2.3 seconds faster), drone move times (1 second faster), and profile loading times (0.5 seconds faster).

More details around the VPS Activator Pilot have reached us!

Agents that have been accepted into the program report that it is currently scheduled to run until January 13, 2025. Depending on the result of this pilot, it may be reconducted or incorporated more broadly into Wayfarer in the future.

Participants of the pilot can request up to 10 VPS activations per day with a global limit of 500 activations per day across all users. Niantic asks Agents to maintain a reasonable ratio between submitting scans and requesting VPS activations (likely the 10 scans per 1 activation request as mentioned in the application form) as they want to gauge if this ratio is reasonable.

Have you been accepted into the program? Share your experiences and feedback in a special forum section on the Wayfarer Community Forums, visible only to participants. You'll find a link to it in the second mail Niantic sent you confirming that you have been accepted. Note that Niantic is asking you to refrain from sharing your experiences and thoughts publicly with anyone not part of the pilot!

The 'Countdown to 2025' Event starts today! Every day at midnight until Dec 31st, Niantic will propose a daily campaign, each having two sets of two bounties. Complete at least one bounty in each set to obtain a reward item!

Since midnight has already passed in almost half of the timezones, the bounties for the first day of this Event are already known!

Assignment 1/2 - Reward: x1 Firework
- Hack any 25 Portals for 25 AP
- Destroy 25 Resonators for 25 AP

Assignment 2/2 - Reward: x1 Firework
- Deploy 25 Resonators for 25 AP
- Recharge Portals with 2,025 XM for 25 AP
(The two fireworks in these rewards are 1x ENL and 1x RES)

Niantic released Ingress Prime v2.157.2!

This update, which follows a major overhaul to the rendering pipeline of the game, aims at fixing a collateral issue that was introduced by the previous update and reported by Agents, notably the insufficient transparency of multilayered Fields.

Additionally, an option to allow swiping between Daily and Campaign tabs on the Dispatch menu was added.

The update is rolling out to Android users in the next few days, while it should be available for iOS users.

The latest reports from the GORUCK Stealth OPS in Nashville say that the Enlightened are now leading the score by 3-1.

Agents have undertaken some interesting challenges such as physical exercises duels, uphill runs to the Nashville Capitol with weights on their backs, but also lots of questions on Nashville's history!

Niantic has released Update 2.156.2 into the App Stores!

As already teased by Brian, the render pipeline of the scanner has been improved which should result in a faster start up time when opening the app as well as general performance improvements. First reports by Agents indicate that the improvements are noticeable.

Interestingly, the app icon which has been changing for every anomaly season since the Echo Anomaly series has been changed back to the standard purple app icon instead of being given a new look for the +Alpha Anomaly series.

The Events section of the Intel map is now active!

Using the Events tab will show you the events with a confirmed start date that are also currently shown in the Campaign tab in the Scanner. As of right now this only includes the Second Sunday, but should show the upcoming 2sDay and the second round of the Bounty Blitz once their start time is added as well. You can add these events into your Google Calendar as well with a simple click!

Note that there seems to be a bug which prevents some Agents from viewing the Events page due to a misconfiguration involving time zones when trying to access the page. You can use this link in the meantime, but note that the times shown are UTC, not local time.

The playboxes for 🇯🇵 Meiji Park, Tokyo, Japan and 🇺🇸 Laguna Park, California, USA are online.

These locations will host an impromptu live test of the new server infrastructure for Shards on Dec 7th. As such, no Medal or other award will be distributed, but Factions may have activated a registration site for participants: we advise to ask your local leaders for more information if you plan to participate and help Niantic make the game better for all!
