The Trump administration is preparing for an Iranian attack against American bases in the Gulf in retaliation for its strike on Iran's nuclear facilities this weekend, U.S. officials say.
The scope of the Iranian retaliation — particularly the number of casualties — will determine how President Trump responds, and whether the U.S. plunges deeper into Israel's war with Iran.
Trump is scheduled to meet with his national security team at 1 p.m. ET at the White House to discuss the threat.
The president has warned that any retaliation "will be met with force far greater than what was witnessed" during the U.S. military attack against three Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend.
On Monday evening local time, Qatar announced it was temporarily closing its airspace due to rising regional tensions. The Qatari foreign ministry said the closure is part of a broader set of precautionary measures.
Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar is the biggest U.S. military installation in the region. In recent weeks, many of the base's aircraft and personnel have been evacuated.

BREAKING🚨: Iran launched multiple missiles against American military bases in the Middle East on Monday in retaliation for the U.S. strike on its nuclear facilities this weekend, according to one Israeli official and one Arab official.
Six missiles were launched toward Qatar, the two officials said. One missile was launched toward Iraq, according to the Israeli official.
"The White House and the Department of Defense are aware of, and closely monitoring, potential threats to Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar," a senior White House official told Axios.
Explosions were heard over Qatar's capital city of Doha on Monday night local time, according to Reuters.

Russia is ready to help Iran in various ways, depending on what Tehran requests, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.

If Trump actually gave Iran a signal that he was going to strike beforehand, then this just got way more interesting.
Consider this, right before Trump carried out this operation, he visited all of Netanyahu's enemies in the Middle East. Qatar, Saudi Arabia, etc.
What if he gave them advanced notice about this operation and the real enemy he is attempting to trap is actually Netanyahu?
Remember, Netanyahu was about to go to prison for war crimes. He needs these wars to continue, to justify him staying in power.
I suspect there is a lot more than meets the eye that people need to keep an eye on.

It’s looking like this may have been a performative strike to take away Israel’s pretext for dragging the U.S. into war for a regime change.
Multiple sources are reporting limited damage on the sites, from different perspective and biases, (not even from Trump supporting sources), but all with this same conclusion.
Iranian authorities already reportedly said that facilities were evacuated ahead of time, there is limited damage underground and nuclear materials were removed from Fordo — which lends to the idea of this being a choreographed chess move to provide a political off ramp for the U.S. out of any public demand for the conflict.
Hopefully Iran shows more restraint and doesn’t retaliate. If they do reciprocate to save face with a limited symbolic response, it may be possible Trump decides not to retaliate and escalate further, (like the time in 2020 at Al-Assad airspace because of the limited damage and lack of casualties.) This could very well all be a choreographed wag the dog scenario to defang Israel from having an excuse to expand their ambitions of greater regional dominance.
As always, there appears to be more going on beneath the surface of the public narrative than meets the eye.
