Senate Republicans are privately discussing whether to change the chamberβs rules amid growing frustration with Democratsβ slow-walking of President Donald Trumpβs nominees.
The discussion, which came to a head during a closed-door lunch Tuesday, comes as Republicans seek to confirm dozens of Trump nominees before leaving for their traditional summer break. Doing so without weeks of delay would require Democrats to cut a deal to speed up the process.
βThis canβt continue β Democrats either have to change their behavior or weβre going to have to change other things,β Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), the No. 2 Senate Republican, said Tuesday, adding that changing rules surrounding nominations would be βpart of the discussion.β
Possible rules changes that Republicans are entertaining include reducing the amount of debate time each nominee is required to undergo before a final vote or allowing βen blocβ voting on groups of nominees. Republicans are also discussing whether to reduce the number of nominees who have to undergo Senate confirmation.

Two major porn production companies have filed a copyright lawsuit against Mark Zuckerbergβs Meta, alleging unauthorized use of their videos to train AI models.
TorrentFreak reports that the adult film studios Strike 3 Holdings and Counterlife Media are taking aim at Meta with a copyright lawsuit. The companies, which produce popular adult brands like Vixen, Tushy, Blacked, and Deeper, claim that Meta illicitly downloaded at least 2,396 of their movies via BitTorrent since 2018 for the purpose of training its AI systems, including the Meta Movie Gen and Large Language Model (LLaMA).
Filed in a California federal court, the complaint alleges that Metaβs unauthorized use of the copyrighted adult films could ultimately result in AI models capable of creating similar βhigh-qualityβ porn content at a lower cost, potentially threatening the studiosβ business. The plaintiffs argue that by training specifically on their works, βMetaβs AI Movie Gen may very well soon produce full length films with Plaintiffsβ identical style and quality, which other real world adult studios cannot replicate.β
The lawsuit also accuses Meta of not only downloading the copyrighted works without permission but also uploading them to third parties participating in the same BitTorrent swarms. This allegation is allegedly backed by data from the studiosβ proprietary tracking software, VXN Scan. BitTorrentβs βtit for tatβ algorithm rewards users for sharing content with others to increase download speeds, and the plaintiffs claim that Meta deliberately chose to continue sharing the pirated files to capitalize on faster downloads and infringe more content at a quicker pace.

Experts are also working to determine what the threat may be for the California and Washington coast, according to the National Weather Service.
Authorities at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center have warned that 'a tsunami may have been generated by this earthquake that could be destructive' to coastal areas.
The earliest such a tsunami could arrive in Hawaii would be 7.17pm, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports.
The quake comes just over one week after several other tremors struck the area, including one that measured a 7.4 magnitude.

EPA is withdrawing its "Endangerment Finding" on the issue of "Greenhouse Gases" on the basis that under the Supreme Court's decision in Loper Bright, the Finding and subsequent regulations on auto emissions, EV mandates, etc., are all beyond the express language of the Environmental Protective Act as passed by Congress.
Prior to Loper Bright, under the old Chevron Doctrine courts would defer to Agency interpretations of ambiguous statutes.
So the Obama EPA interpreted vague provisions of the Environmental Protection Act as a basis to issue REGULATIONS -- not statutes -- that dictated fleet emission standards on vehicle manufacturers, and required them to have a certain percentage of all sales be of Electric Vehicles.
The Chevron Doctrine gave a green light to Administrative Agencies to say statutes passed by Congress mean whatever the Agencies want them to mean.
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin has brought an end to that.

The House Oversight Committee on Tuesday declined a request from Ghislaine Maxwellβs lawyers to grant her immunity in exchange for providing testimony to Congress.

The Trump administration is recommending that a compound called 7-OH be scheduled as an illicit drug, Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary announced Tuesday.
The compound is a by-product of the Kratom plant whose ground leaves are sold as a dietary supplement to boost energy or provide pain relief. FDA officials said 7-OH has a βhigh risk of addictionβ and abuse because of its ability to bind to opioid receptors in the brain.
The compound is found in trace amounts in the kratom plant, and the FDAβs move is aimed at products with concentrated levels of 7-OH.
Makary said the agency is urging the Drug Enforcement Agency to classify 7-OH as a Schedule 1 substance, placing it on list of drugs that include heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and ecstasy.
