UPDATE: The suspect was a male soldier
The shooting at the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area was reported at 10:56 a.m. The suspect -- a male soldier, according to a U.S. official -- was apprehended at 11:35 a.m., Fort Stewart said.
No fatalities were reported, a U.S. official said. The soldiers' conditions were not immediately clear, but two of the victims were rushed to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, which is a Level 1 trauma center, hospital officials told ABC News.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said on social media, "We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers."
President Donald Trump has been briefed on the shooting, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

A U.S. plane designed to track nuclear testing in the atmosphere flew close to Russia's nuclear bases in the northwest of the country on Tuesday, flight data showed.
A U.S. Air Force WC-135R aircraft took off from RAF Mildenhall, a major U.K. base in the east of England, before traveling north along the coast west of Norway, according to the flight-tracking platform Flightradar24.
The aircraft, identified by the call sign COBRA29, then circled around the Barents Sea, north of Murmansk and west of the Russian Arctic archipelago of Novaya Zemlya, before returning to the U.K. almost 14 hours later.

Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with President Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff in Moscow Wednesday, the Kremlin said, days before the White House's deadline for Russia to reach a peace deal with Ukraine or potentially face severe economic penalties that could also hit countries buying its oil.
The Kremlin didn't immediately provide more details of the meeting. Earlier, Witkoff took an early morning stroll through Zaryadye Park, a stone's throw from the Kremlin, with Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian president's envoy for investment and economic cooperation, footage aired by Russian news agency TASS showed.
Dmitriev played a key role in three rounds of direct talks between delegations from Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul in recent months, as well as discussions between Russian and U.S. officials. The negotiations have made no progress on ending the three-year war following Russia's invasion of its neighbor.
Mr. Trump's deadline for Putin ends Friday. Washington has threatened "severe tariffs" and other economic penalties if the killing doesn't stop.

President Donald Trump is moving forward with plans to add a massive 90,000-square-foot ballroom to the White House, a project he says will be paid for entirely by himself and private donors, in a post where the president also touted that he has donated his paycheck to the White House Historical Association. The initiative is part of a broader effort by Trump to renovate and expand the historic presidential residence without using taxpayer dollars.
In a post to Truth Social, Trump wrote: "I am proud to be the only President (with the possible exception of the Late, Great George Washington) to donate my Salary. My first 'Paycheck' went to the White House Historical Association, as we make much needed renovations to the beautiful 'Peopleβs House.' Great improvements and beautification is taking place at the White House, at levels not seen since its original creation. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
The ballroom project is scheduled to break ground in September and will be constructed adjacent to the East Wing. The administration has confirmed that the goal is to complete the new space before Trumpβs term ends in January 2029. The venue is expected to host state dinners, diplomatic receptions, and other large-scale events.
