Today, the European Union nearly banned your right to privacy. It was set to vote on a law that would force apps to scan every private message, turning everyoneβs phone into a spying tool.
France led the push for this authoritarian law. Both former and current Interior Ministers, Bruno Retailleau and Laurent NuΓ±ez, supported it. Last March, they declared that police should see French citizensβ private messages (more info here). The Republicans and Macronβs Renaissance group voted for it.
Such measures are supposed to βfight crimeβ, but their real target is regular people. It wouldnβt stop criminals β they could just use VPNs or special websites to hide. Officialsβ and police messages wouldnβt be scanned either, since the law conveniently exempts them from surveillance. Only YOU β ordinary citizens β would face the danger of your private messages and photos being compromised.
Today, we defended privacy: Germanyβs sudden stand saved our rights. But freedoms are still threatened. While French leaders push for total access to private messages, the basic rights of French people β and all Europeans β remain in danger.

BREAKING: Hamas will hand over four more bodies of Israeli hostages tonight, officials say, as all four previous remains returned to Israel have been identified.
The group has informed mediators it will begin transferring bodies of four deceased Israeli hostages to Israel at 10 p.m. local time (1900 GMT) on Tuesday, an official involved in the operation told Reuters.
Earlier, Israeli officials said the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt would stay closed at least through Wednesday and the flow of aid into the Palestinian enclave would be reduced to put pressure on the militant group to hand over the bodies of the hostages it is holding.
It comes as Red Cross teams are searching Gaza's ruins for deceased hostages who were held in Gaza after Israel warned Hamas it had until tonight to return the remaining bodies.
However, the International Committee of the charity said it may take considerable time to hand over the remains of hostages and detainees killed in the Israel-Hamas war.

JUST IN: The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected conservative conspiracy theorist Alex Jones' last-ditch attempt to block an almost $1.5 billion defamation judgment he faces over false claims that the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax.
The court without comment turned away Jones' appeal of a state court ruling.
Last week he urged the court to urgently intervene, saying that if the court did not take action, his website, Infowars, was at risk of being turned over to the satirical news site The Onion.
The proposed acquisition would be used to help fund payments to family members of the Sandy Hook victims.
Jones' lawyers had warned in the filing last week that if the case was not put on hold, βInfoWars will have been acquired by its ideological nemesis and destroyed."

I try to look at everything being put into place through the lens of ALL future admins, not just the one weβre in. With that being said, I believe this to be a dangerous precedent being set and agree they shouldnβt sign it. Not yet. Hear me out.
To my knowledge, this potentially bars any news coverage, not just legacy media. (Think podcasters, civilian journalists, social media influencers, alternative media, etc). Trust me, I know full well how real media manipulation is as itβs continually being used as a weapon against us and for decades now. What Iβm trying to do is call attention to a very reasonable slippery slope.
Yes, I absolutely agree things must be put into place to protect our country and its national security. My current hesitancy towards this is due to that fact that it could essentially make our own MIL/government no longer having to be held accountable to answering its people. Consider this β

The former presidential candidate and Utah Governor's sister-in-law, Carrie Elizabeth Romney, was found lying next to the garage in the Los Angeles suburb of Valencia, according to the local coroner's office.
