FESSING UP: In the wake of President Donald Trump's executive order outlawing debanking, major bank executives told Fox News Digital that they were under pressure by the Obama and Biden administrations to deny services to individuals and businesses for political reasons.
"Those pressures were very, very real. When your regulator gives you a suggestion, itβs not a suggestion, itβs an order. The political stuff is very real, those pressures are real," a senior banking executive told Fox News Digital.
Fox News Digital spoke with two executives at leading U.S. banks, who asked to remain anonymous, fearing reprisals.
The executives said that ambiguity in federal laws was exploited by regulators under the Obama and Biden administrations in order to pursue political objectives. According to one executive, banks were pressured to deny services to certain industries as part of Operation Choke Point and Operation Choke Point 2.0.

The U.S. Army is restructuring its airborne forces, leading to pay changes for thousands of parachutist positions.
According to a report from the American military newspaper Stars and Stripes, an administrative message delivered to service members on July 30 announced that more than 22,000 paratroopers will no longer receive their monthly $150 "jump pay." This is due to reclassifications of paid parachutist positions which will take effect in the upcoming fiscal year.
The reduced number which will remain eligible for the payments will comprise those deemed more likely to deploy these capabilities in combat operations in the foreseeable future, Newsweek understands.
When approached for comment, U.S. Army Spokesman Major Travis Shaw told Newsweek: "The decision resulted from a 16-week study, which concluded that transformation was needed because the previous structure exceeded the operational requirements."

The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform intends to make public some files it subpoenaed related to the Jeffrey Epstein case, though it will first redact them to shield victimsβ IDs and other sensitive matters, a committee spokesperson said Tuesday.
The panel is expected to start receiving materials from the Justice Department on Friday, though it appears the public release will come some time after that. The spokesperson said the committee would work with the Justice Department on the process.

π₯General Electric Appliances is set to shift production of some refrigerators, gas ranges, and water heaters out of China and Mexico as part of a plan to expand US. manufacturing operations. The move, which is part of a $3 billion investment, will take place over the next five years and focus on plants in Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
CEO Kevin Nolan told ABC the strategy is designed to βmanufacture close to its customers.β He added, βWith lean manufacturing, upskilling our workforce and automation, the math works for manufacturing in the United States.β The company said the investment is the second-largest in its history.
The production shift includes moving gas range manufacturing from Mexico to Georgia and relocating six refrigerator models previously made in China to Alabama. GE Appliances said the plan will modernize US facilities and create more than 1,000 jobs.

A fifth person has died in connection with a Legionnairesβ disease outbreak in New York City, health officials said.
The outbreak in Central Harlem has sickened dozens since it began in late July and the latest death was announced late Monday night. Fourteen people were hospitalized as of Monday, according to the health department.
The bacteria that causes Legionnairesβ disease had been discovered in 12 cooling towers on 10 buildings, including a city-run hospital and sexual health clinic, health officials said. Remediation efforts have since been completed on all of the cooling towers.
Legionnairesβ disease is a type of pneumonia that is caused by Legionella bacteria, which grow in warm water and spread through building water systems. The cityβs outbreak has been linked to cooling towers, which use water and a fan to cool buildings.
