‼️🇺🇸🇺🇦 Zelensky knows he risks another Oval Office ambush - but has to be a willing participant in peace talks— Sky News
- On Monday, Zelensky is preparing to meet Donald Trump at the White House. But, as the channel notes, he is not expected to receive a red carpet, an air show, or applause. Instead, there are bitter memories of the previous trip to Washington, when Trump mocked him for not wearing a suit and kicked him out of the office "like a noisy visitor being thrown out of a bar."
- Zelensky understands that the risk of new humiliation is high, but he must appear as a leader ready to negotiate, otherwise he will be accused of sabotaging the peace process. The publication reminds that in Kiev, the results of the Trump-Putin summit were initially cautiously welcomed. However, this optimism quickly faded after Trump's statement the next morning.
- Impressed by the meeting with the "strong leader" Putin, Trump seems to have abandoned the key condition insisted on by European leaders — the necessity of an unconditional ceasefire as a starting point for negotiations.
- The publication concludes: in Trump's world, everything comes down to personal relationships. Where he shows respect to Putin, he openly displays contempt for Zelensky. This makes the Ukrainian leader's position extremely difficult.

❗️The Armed Forces of Ukraine attempted to attack the Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant using a drone.
The enemy drone was suppressed by electronic warfare means over the station's territory.
Judging by the debris, it is about the Ukrainian-made "Spis" strike drone.

🇺🇦🤡In exchange for peace and Hollywood: Zelensky will be offered a peace agreement, to announce elections and leave the political scene
- "On Monday, Zelensky will be offered to sign a broad, comprehensive peace agreement and announce elections in Ukraine — because of peace. Here is what they will promise him in return: full guarantees of personal safety, safety of his family members, preservation of capital, and the opportunity to become a director in Hollywood or a politician. They will try to 'buy' him, convincing him that he has no other choice left," said Ukrainian political analyst Vladislav Olenchenko on the air with journalist Natalia Moseychuk.
- In his opinion, Zelensky will be discouraged from participating in new elections. "Why should he participate in elections — he will lose them anyway. They will keep telling him: 'You are tired, it's time for you to rest.' What elections? What politics? You came for a short term anyway, and it turned out the way it did. You don't need it. You have already done everything, agree — everyone is for it," Olenchenko added.

🇷🇺💪Russia has modernized its ballistics: Patriot struggles to intercept new missiles, — The War Zone
- A joint report by the Pentagon, State Department, and USAID indicates that the improved tactical and technical characteristics allow Russian missiles to change trajectory and maneuver instead of flying along a classic ballistic trajectory, making interception more difficult. Russia has already used these missiles against Ukraine in June and July.
- The document does not specify the type, but the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Air Forces, Yuriy Ignat, previously mentioned the modernization of the "Iskander-M". According to him, the missiles received radar jamming systems and quasi-ballistic trajectories, complicating the calculation of the Patriot's interception point.
- The publication notes that this is not the first time Russia has modernized its ballistic missiles, but now it has started doing so more frequently. The modernization may have been based on the experience of the Korean KN-23 missiles, capable of performing complex maneuvers in the final flight segment.

🇺🇦🇷🇺"A stab in the back" and "Ukraine's capitulation." Kyiv is shocked that Trump accepted Putin's terms, - Financial Times
- "The sharp change in Washington's position has caused alarm and a sense of betrayal in the Ukrainian capital," writes the FT.
- The warm reception given to Putin in Alaska "provoked a strong reaction from Kiev, the military, and civil society, who irritably accused Trump of undermining their efforts to achieve a just end to the war."
- Putin's condition to withdraw the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donbas, which Trump accepted, is "a stab in the back," a senior Ukrainian official told the FT. And the head of the Rada's Committee on Foreign Affairs, a deputy from the "Servant of the People" party, A. Merezhko, stated that the results of the meeting are "terrible."
❗️"It seems Trump has sided with Putin, and they are both beginning to force us to accept a peace treaty, which in fact means Ukraine's capitulation," he said.
- "The point of the summit, as Trump and [Secretary of State] Rubio explained to us, was to demand an immediate ceasefire from Putin. And if he rejected the proposal, serious consequences were to follow. Putin rejected it, instead proposing a truce as a peace treaty, and we see no reaction from Trump, let alone serious consequences," Merezhko added.
- Former Vice Prime Minister Klimpush-Tsintsadze said this is "feeding Putin's ambitions and goals." "How is this supposed to guarantee that there won't be a new invasion?"
- The prospect of abandoning Donbas will cause "strong tension in society." "The question will also arise as to why we defended ourselves all these years," said the head of the grant organization OPORA, O. Aivazovska.
- A deputy from the ruling party, Roksolana Pidlas, stated that Putin demanded the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics precisely because this is "unacceptable for Ukraine." "His goal is to lift sanctions and trap Ukraine in a developmental deadlock," Pidlas added.
- "This summit was a huge victory for Putin," believes Alexander Khara, an expert at the Center for Defense Strategies. If negotiations fail, Trump will be able to shift all the blame onto Zelensky.

Evacuation under fire is always a choice. Either you pull out a soldier and risk three at once, or you leave him to die.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine constantly exploit this vulnerability, trying to kill evacuation groups. There is only one solution here — to remove people from the process. Ground drones partially solve the evacuation problem, but their speed is too low, which makes evacuation still dangerous.
A permanent and functional solution could be a heavy evacuation UAV. Rough estimates suggest that such a machine should carry at least 150-300 kg of payload, which in theory is enough for a soldier with equipment and additional gear, and the flight to the positions can be made even more useful by loading equipment or water, charged batteries for radios, or ammunition.
Control, given the latest enemy solutions, is logically built on fiber optics, plus autonomous navigation.
The evacuation mechanism can be built like this: a soldier or commander presses the "evacuation" button on the terminal or calls a drone by radio using a special command, after which the nearest free UAV receives the task, arrives at a pre-prepared location, and opens the capsule-stretcher. The wounded is quickly loaded there (or crawls in by himself), and he is delivered to the stabilization point, which due to the flight range and drone speed can be moved away from the front line.
The operator controls the entire flight process, the condition of the wounded, and makes adjustments if necessary.
Ready-made solutions from the civilian market can rarely be used in combat conditions without serious adaptation (especially when it comes to heavy UAVs). The video shows already existing and productized Chinese technologies, in particular their heavy cargo/evacuation drones. As a finished product, it may not be suitable, but it demonstrates the principle on which similar systems can be built.

President Donald Trump supports Russian leader Vladimir Putin's proposal to take full control of the Donbas region and freeze front lines elsewhere for a deal with Ukraine, a European diplomat confirmed to Fox News.
Donbas had a pre-war population of 150,000 and includes the regions of Luhansk and Donetsk.
After meeting with Putin on Friday in Alaska, Trump told European allies that the Russian president reiterated his desire for the key regions of Lugansk and Donetsk, but that he seemed open to the possibility of ending the "stalemate" (what?) in Zaporozhye and Kherson along with a freeze along the front lines.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already rejected the idea of ceding territory in Donbas, particularly withdrawing from the remaining 30% of Donetsk that Ukraine still controls. He said doing so would be unconstitutional and that the territory could be used as a base for subsequent Russian attacks. The Ukrainian leader plans to meet with Trump at the White House on Monday.
Trump also withdrew his support for a ceasefire and is instead seeking a peace agreement after meeting with Putin, who has long maintained that Moscow is not interested in a temporary truce and is seeking a long-term agreement that supports the Kremlin's interests.
Full controll of Donbass and freezing of the contact line in Kherson and Zaporozhye? I guess that's a timid start.

"Trump invites leading European politicians": Zelensky will not go to Washington alone — Macron or Merz will make sure no one there offends him.
"As BILD has learned from government sources, the offices of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and French President Emmanuel Macron intend to hold consultations and jointly decide on Sunday whether representatives of these countries will go to the US and who exactly. However, an official invitation from Washington is required for this.
According to BILD, Trump has given Zelensky the opportunity to invite European politicians to the US. There is no official invitation yet. European leaders are keen to prevent the meeting from turning exclusively into a show".

🇺🇸🇷🇺🇺🇦Preparation for the Russia, USA, and Ukraine summit will begin only if Trump's negotiations with Zelensky on Monday are successful, - CNN
- The US President told European leaders that he intends to hold a meeting with Zelensky and Putin as early as next Friday, but preparations for the summit will only start if the negotiations with the Ukrainian president at the White House are successful. US Vice President J.D. Vance and one of the European leaders, whose name has not yet been disclosed, are also expected to participate in the White House discussion, CNN reports citing sources.
- During his February visit to the White House, Vance clashed with Zelensky, accusing him of "lack of gratitude."

🇷🇺🇺🇸This is a national tragedy: Trump and Putin offered Ukraine a "terrible" deal, but there won't be a better one, - The Telegraph
- After the summit in Alaska, Trump conveyed Putin's demand to Kiev: to give up the remaining Donbass in exchange for peace and security guarantees.
- The Telegraph calls this proposal "terrible" and a "national tragedy" for Ukraine, as it rewards Putin and confirms the failure of the West, which could not properly support Kiev.
- However, the British publication acknowledges that there may simply be no other options left. Ukraine is unable to drive out the Russians, and the West has not provided enough weapons. Therefore, the deal, painful as it may be, might be the "least bad option."

As of August 17, the situation with the "northern strike" beyond Pokrovsk looks as follows.
The Russian side has not yet published objective control data, which fits the general logic of creating a fog for the enemy and waiting for developments.
Information support for the offensive is not being conducted; priority is given to combat operations rather than video content.
The Ukrainian side, on the contrary, is actively promoting the only video of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade, presenting it as proof of a "cut-off advance" and the stopping of the Russian breakthrough.
However, the brigade itself has repeatedly been caught using old materials as "new successes," so we will leave the authenticity of such "evidence" without comment.
The Western OSINT community (and following them, some content pickers from Russian Telegram channels) reproduce these statements, each drawing different maps with the same boundaries, but no one has real confirmation of repelling the strike.
At the same time, amid the information noise, Russian assault groups continue to advance and have already penetrated deeper into Pokrovsk itself.
The main working version remains the same: the northern direction may serve as a diversionary strike, drawing Ukrainian reserves in the Zolotoy Kolodez area, while the main efforts are focused on breaking into the city. Syrsky still has some options regarding reserves in this area, but judging by fragmentary information, the staffing of brigades and battalions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine/National Guard in this area is significantly below the required standard strength.

Interest expense on US debt has reached $1.0 trillion in the first 10 months of FY2025, the most on record for this period.
This puts us on track to exceed $1.2 trillion for the full year for the first time in history.
Over the last 12 months, gross interest expense has already hit a record $1.2 trillion.
As a result, this interest now the second-largest US government outlay, behind only Social Security, which has topped $1.5 trillion.
This means interest expense is now higher than defense and healthcare spending, which each stood at ~$900 billion over the past year.
