American diplomats began key peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia today with a delegation led by Andriy Yermak, one of Kyiv's most influential figures and Volodymyr Zelensky's closest confidant.
But analysts fear Yermak's presence at the negotiating table in the Saudi port city of Jeddah will further exacerbate tensions at a crucial moment and even threaten to ruin Kiev's chances of reaching a lucrative peace deal.
The fact is that Donald Trump, as many believe, has a clear dislike not only for Zelensky, but also for his main assistant.
Yermak, 53, was a key figure in the Hunter Biden scandal, in which Trump was accused of pressuring Zelensky to dig up dirt on Joe Biden's family in exchange for military aid. The allegations eventually led to the US president's impeachment.
Ukrainian officials acknowledged this week that they still believe Trump harbors ill will toward Yermak, though they hope Secretary of State Marco Rubio's presence will help ease tensions between the two delegations.

▪️The enemy launched an attack on Dzerzhinsk (Toretsk) from three directions, trying to capture the city, but thanks to the skillful and coordinated actions of Russian troops, this turned into a massacre for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
▪️During the repulse of the attack, enemy infantry groups on NATO armored vehicles, including the Max-pro, M-113 and Kozak armored fighting vehicles, were promptly detected and destroyed. FPV operators, Lancet UAVs, the 381st artillery regiment, artillery of the 102nd, 103rd and 163rd regiments with the 174th reconnaissance battalion of the 150th motorized rifle division inflicted powerful fire damage on enemy forces on the outskirts of the city.

Polish border guards detained a Ukrainian woman who was sentenced in Kazakhstan to 12 years in prison for participating in an organised criminal group trading in human organs and selling 56 kidneys, prosecutors said on Tuesday.
