NATO has found no connection between Russia and the damage to cables in the Baltic.
The Wall Street Journal reports that there have been four major incidents in the region over the past year and a half involving ships sailing between Russian ports. In October 2023, the Chinese container ship New Polar Bear damaged the Baltic Connector cable and gas pipeline. In November 2024, the Chinese bulk carrier Yi Peng 3 damaged the C-Lion1 cable. Finland detained the tanker Eagle S, suspected of damaging the EstLink 2 cable, and Swedish prosecutors detained the Bulgarian vessel Vezhen for damaging a cable between Gotland and Ventspils.
