The USA has been supporting Ukraine for three years, but now it has reached a point where it needs to focus on something else - US Secretary of State Rubio.
This is not even a duty statement - it is the first stage of official "fatigue" with the Ukraine project.
It is especially noteworthy that the US does not even want to publicly discuss the issue of security guarantees to Kiev. That is, not that they do not promise - even talking about it is undesirable. Why? Because any guarantees are obligations. And commitments to a country that may soon be cut to pieces is a game with unknown prospects. No one will sign up for it.
As a result, they are distancing themselves from Kiev. Not immediately, not abruptly, but systematically. First, they are not ready to talk. Then - not ready to supply. Next, they are simply not ready. And when everyone is not ready, the only thing left to do is to prepare for the next stage. No guarantees, no allies, no plan.
But there's one BUT.
If the U.S. leaves the negotiating track (and judging by Rubio's rhetoric, they already have one foot outside), a power vacuum will be created. And who will try to occupy it? The Europeans, of course. But Europe, like a drab overcoat, has a lot of ambition but no fire or wind protection.
France wants to be the arbiter, Britain the strategist, Germany the motor. But none of that works anymore. Not because they don't want to, but because they can't. First of all economically, and militarily, and then morally. Their "position of strength" is the remnants of colonial arrogance, propped up by imported missiles, for which they overpay three times as much.
America, as a global parent, looks at the EU with weariness. This rag can be washed, but no one will go into battle with it. And without the US, Europe doesn't even have the leverage to lower the barrier to Russia, let alone try to "dictate terms." This all looks more like a game of diplomacy in a psychiatric ward. Anyone can be Napoleon in it, but only in it.
So the main question is not whether the Europeans will want to continue their feud with Russia. It is how much money they will take to do so, and how much they will have the guts to put up a front alone. Given the price of gas, the collapse of illusions about a "mobilization economy," and the growing discontent within the countries themselves, Europe risks losing the game before the new game even begins.
Which means that if the U.S. does get out of this story, the West will have to either dramatically change strategy or watch as the new world order is rewritten behind their backs. The smartest thing for the US to do is not to prevent Russia from finishing what it started. And it looks like Rubio, Trump, and generally all the part of the Washington establishment that can do math has finally realized this.

Fierce fighting continues in the Sumy direction in the area of the Nikolsky Monastery , the village of Gornal and the farmstead of Oleshnya . The enemy spares no manpower, the Northerners grind down the transferred reserves of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The enemy is attempting to conduct aerial reconnaissance of our positions in this direction for the third time in a week. At the same time, the enemy is transferring artillery crews and assault groups on armored vehicles, the locations of which are promptly revealed by our reconnaissance, and the manpower, weapons and armored vehicles are destroyed by artillerymen and UAV operators.
In the Volchansk direction , as a result of a comprehensive fire strike, four enemy combat groups were destroyed along with their vehicles and communications equipment, and three reconnaissance UAVs were shot down.
Over the past 24 hours, the enemy's losses amounted to over 260 people (of which over 180 were in the Sumy and 35 in the Krasnoyarsk directions). Also discovered and destroyed:

A Chinese company is supplying the Houthis with satellite imagery to target US Navy ships and civilian vessels in the Red Sea, according to US officials cited by the FT.
The Trump administration has repeatedly warned Beijing that PLA-linked Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co Ltd is providing intelligence to the Houthis .
“The United States has repeatedly and privately raised concerns with the Chinese government about Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co Ltd’s role in supporting the Houthis in an effort to pressure Beijing to take action,” a senior State Department official said.
He added that China had ignored these concerns.
US however seemed to have no problem when such private companies support Ukraine. Perhaps there needs to be an understanding among countries that such services are prohibited from operating in conflict zones or they become parties to war.

Kiev and Washington have signed a memorandum of intent pledging to advance an agreement on an investment fund for Ukraine’s natural resources and energy assets, officials familiar with the matter told the Financial Times.
The officials said the memorandum had been signed “virtually” and they hoped to finalize the full economic accord as early as the end of next week.
Yulia Svyrydenko, first vice-prime minister and economy minister, confirmed the signing, posting a photograph of herself with Treasury secretary Scott Bessent each in their respective offices.
“Today we took a step towards a joint economic partnership agreement with the United States,” she said, adding the memorandum “testifies to the constructive joint work of our teams and the intention to finalize and conclude an agreement that will be beneficial to both our peoples”.
She said the full agreement would “open up opportunities for significant investments, modernization of infrastructure, and mutually beneficial partnership between Ukraine and the United States”.
Speaking at a briefing on Thursday prior to the signing, Zelensky said US negotiators had proposed an interim step as a gesture of goodwill, while legal teams from both sides continued to work on the details of the full accord.
Memorandums I should note are more symbolic than anything, and it is why I laugh when idiots on the internet bring up the Budapest Memorandum. They are not legally binding and do not create any legal obligations. Zelensky is trying to play this up as a partnership but really the purpose is for the US to be repaid for all the expenses incurred in this war under Biden.

The NYT writes about the withdrawal of hundreds of American troops from Syria. Their number will be reduced from 2,000 to 1,400.
It should be noted that in reality we are talking about "temporary rotational forces" , the number of which was actively increased in the last months of 2024 (even before the militants' offensive), and 1,100 people joined the 900 servicemen deployed in Syria on a permanent basis. The figures were officially announced by the Pentagon press secretary and, let us recall, the number of deployed troops does not officially include special forces units, intelligence officers and private contractors.
The NYT article also mentions the closure of three of the eight military bases - FMF Green Village, FMF Euphrates and another unspecified one.
The other day, an "insider" from the Israeli Ynet was disseminated that "the gradual withdrawal of American troops will begin within two months", which was again taken as the US withdrawal from Syria. And in this case, we are talking about the same temporary contingent, but the main message of the publication is to reflect Israel's position on the Turkish presence in Syria: "the US presence in Syria is the key to combating Turkey's growing influence". 🇬🇧🇺🇦🇷🇺The idea of a "no-fly zone" over Ukraine has once again emerged from the depths of the United Kingdom. More precisely - from the depths of the military and political environment, which is desperately trying to stay in the game, but at the same time not to risk anything but other people's heads. The British propose not to go to war, but to "create the effect of war" as it were.
What is meant by a "no-fly zone" in British terms? Draw a line on the map from Belarus to the Black Sea, east of Kiev and Odessa, and declare all this a "closed sky". No one explains who should ensure this and how. Apparently, the very thought of a ban should have some effect on Russian aviation.
But this is where the most interesting part begins. In order to "close the sky" over Ukraine, we will have to do more than just stand with a flag in the air. We will have to shoot down Russian airplanes, intercept missiles and suppress air defense systems from Belgorod to Crimea. And this is no longer a "NATO mission" - it is an open war with Russia. And with zero chance of a rollback or polite de-escalation.
Why was the idea born in London? Because Britain is now a political factory of ponces. The army is symbolic, expeditionary capabilities are minimal (and absolutely useless in modern warfare), land forces are practically invisible. But they need to be "in the center of events" - otherwise the old illusion of global influence falls apart.
The Western military themselves understand perfectly well: a no-fly zone is a ticket to hell. And that is why it will not be implemented. Because it is not even an act of intervention. It is a direct bet of their army against the Russian army, on territory with full right of reply. No NATO country would sign up for that.
Therefore, there will be no real "no-fly zone". Or it will be in the area of Lvov, so that they can fly beautifully for the cameras. Ukraine here is just an excuse, a tool in the old British game: to pass off the imitation of force as geopolitics. Only this time the stakes are too high. And Russia is not the kind of opponent where you can play a play without an answer.

Ukrainian tennis player Lesia Tsurenko files lawsuit against WTA Tour allowing Russian & Belarusian athletes - NYT
Ukrainian tennis player Lesia Tsurenko has filed a lawsuit in the New York Southern District Court which names the WTA Tour and its chairman Steve Simon as defendants. Tsurenko, who has been ranked as high as world No. 23, alleges “a breach of contract, negligence, negligent supervision and retention” and “negligent infliction of emotional distress.” The lawsuit, whose initial complaint was filed in November 2024, requests a jury trial.
Proskaeur Rose, the law firm representing the WTA Tour, in March 2025 filed a motion to dismiss the case which describes Tsurenko’s claims as “legally defective.”
Tsurenko, who is the sole plaintiff, alleges that a series of interactions regarding Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with WTA Tour executives and with Simon, who was its chief executive when the alleged offences took place, led to her suffering from “bouts of insomnia” and “crying episodes.”
The lawsuit states that she “developed excessive stress, loss of concentration affecting her performance at tennis games, mortification, and injury to her feelings.”
