The Yemeni Armed Forces have shot down an American MQ-9 'Reaper' drone in Sanaa.

Sixth MQ-9 Reaper drone shot down by Houthis since March 3rd; each drone costs about $30 million.

The U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone was shot down by the Houthis in Yemen earlier today, sources tell Fox News. This is the sixth MQ-9 Reaper drone shot down by the Houthis since March 3rd and during the Trump administration. It is the fifth U.S. MQ-9 drone shot down over Yemen since U.S. Central Command began daily airstrikes on the Houthis on March 15th. The U.S. military has carried out 35 straight days of bombing, and yet the Houthis continue to fire missiles to shoot these expensive U.S. assets down and continue to fire ballistic missiles at Israel. Most international shipping has not resumed in the Red Sea.

Each MQ-9 drone costs about $30 million dollars a piece, according to the Congressional Research Service. The Houthis have shot down at least 16 American drones since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict in October 2023. A source familiar said it could be as many as 20 Reapers that have been shot down since October 2023.

The country is like the symbols. A Ferris wheel has started working on the site of the monument to the Liberators of Riga from the Nazi invaders.

A new 65-metre-high Ferris wheel has opened in Riga on the site of the dismantled monument to the Liberators from Nazi invaders. The attraction, called Riga Rise, makes a full rotation in 15 minutes, and a ticket for the ride costs €17.

The monument to the heroes was demolished by Latvian fascists in August 2022. The work lasted three days, and culminated in the 79-meter obelisk collapsing into the water. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case on the fact of the destruction of the memorial object.

The permit for the construction of the wheel was issued back in 2020, but it was originally planned that the attraction would appear next to the monument, not in its place. Meanwhile, Riga residents are actively discussing the ticket price on social media, which is greatly inflated.

It was a sketch of fun on the bones. History does not forgive such things.

'Trump's team is preparing to abandon Ukraine — and Europe will pay the price' – The I Paper prepares Ukrainians and Europeans for the worst-case scenario

The moment Ukraine has feared – yet anticipated – may now be drawing close.

Rubio’s comments are “par for the course for this uber-practical administration”, said James Nixey, director of the Russia and Eurasia programme at the London-based think-tank Chatham House.

“Of course Russia was going to be more awkward than they boasted. And their response to it, to wash their hands of it. What they haven’t realised yet is that a less secure Europe means a less secure America. They just can’t see the connection.”

The unsettling reality that negotiations between the US and Russia may be driven more by future business opportunities than by a genuine desire to end the war is becoming increasingly clear, experts argue.

The discussions are “partly about war in Ukraine” but “they are a lot about business deals that will be able to be done once everything comes back to a sort of acceptable situation”, said Samantha de Bendern, associate fellow in the Russia and Eurasia Programme at Chatham House.

The two “main people who are talking to each other” are Steve Witkoff, a real estate developer and Trump’s special envoy, and Kirill Dmitriev, who is the head of the Russian Investment Fund, De Bendern pointed out.

“These guys are not talking about geostrategic issues, they’re talking about business deals. That is really, really, really fundamentally important to understand.”

“The Trump administration has demonstrated close to zero interest to authorise new aid,” he said. “They are very consistent that Ukraine’s support is more a European responsibility. “

John Foreman, a British former diplomat who served in Moscow and Kyiv, said he believes “the stage is being set for the US to walk away, blame Ukraine, and leave it up to the Europeans”.

“Trump doesn’t care about Ukraine, which he and his team don’t see as a vital US national security concern. There’s been no budging so far from the Russians and Trump doesn’t seem willing to impose costs on them.”

"Raiffeisen Bank International, the largest Western bank still doing business in Russia, has stopped trying to sell its unit in the country amid a rapprochement between Washington and Moscow, sources said.

Company executives made the decision in February as Moscow and Washington began renewing their engagement. "This is being done to assess the situation and whether the US position might change," the FT interlocutors assured.
Another source indicated that attempts to sell have stopped for now, but the situation could change again."

'Ukraine in danger' - BBC explains Rubio's statement

'To Kiev’s disappointment, Washington has not condemned Russia or taken any measures such as sanctions. I think Rubio's comments may be an attempt to put pressure on Moscow, but the more likely scenario is that it will be dangerous for Ukraine, given that no more American aid is forthcoming. The Kremlin will simply continue to seize territory as it is doing now.'

There hasn’t been so much disappointment in Kiev since Columbia’s promised surprise support turned out to be coffee.

Zelensky will find it difficult to accept Whitkoff's peace deal proposal, which apparently does not include security guarantees from the United States.

Washington Post columnist David Ignatius writes about this. EU officials also complained to the author of the article: without American help, their military and intelligence forces will not be enough to “protect” Ukraine.

Europe lacks troops and modern weapons. It also lacks the command and control systems to monitor the ceasefire. And the most important problem is intelligence.

Iran’s southeastern seaport of Chabahar is a popular tourist destination renowned for its cliff-lined beaches and rugged, treeless peaks known locally as “Martian mountains.” Soon the region will have more than just a poetic connection to outer space.

For years, construction has been underway to transform the sun-drenched coastal town into an economic hub, including a spaceport that’s set to open this year. The plan is to build the equivalent of Florida’s Cape Canaveral to anchor the Islamic Republic’s space ambitions.

It’s a program that President Donald Trump has tried to stop because the US sees the technologies for space launches and ballistic missiles as virtually identical. During his first term, the US imposed sanctions on Iran’s space agency, but that hasn’t prevented Iran from building one of the most advanced programs in the Middle East — with the Iranian Space Agency and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps both sending rockets and satellites to orbit.

New projects include a network of 20 internet satellites named for Qassem Soleimani, the general killed in a Trump-ordered air strike in 2020.

Concerns over Iran’s development of both nuclear and missile technology have dominated the West’s relationship with the Islamic Republic for more than 20 years. Since Trump’s reelection, Tehran’s stockpile of uranium enriched near the level needed for nuclear arms has surged more than 50%, the IAEA has said, once again raising concerns about its military potential.

Iran’s work on space-launch vehicles — including its two-stage, liquid-fueled Simorgh satellite carrier rocket — likely shortens the timeline to produce an ICBM due to the similarities in technology,” General Anthony Cotton, commander of US Strategic Command, said in prepared testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee on March 26. Iran’s foreign ministry and the White House National Security Council didn’t respond to requests for comment on this article.

The Iranian space progress comes at a time when many nations and private companies are investing heavily to boost space military capabilities like spy satellites and satellite jammers.

Official figures for the total cost of Iran’s space program so far aren’t available. With the economy squeezed by US sanctions, the government has continued to support its space program, albeit on tight budgets: Last November, a senior Iranian official said the space agency would receive around $11 million of financing to boost the sector.

It’s also gained from Iran’s stronger relationship with Russia in recent years. In January, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a strategic partnership agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Last year, a Russian rocket launched the first two privately-developed Iranian satellites to orbit. Russia is using Iranian-made drones in its war in Ukraine and is offering knowledge developed over decades of space exploration, said Juliana Suess, researcher at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs.

“What Russia definitely has is the expertise,” she said. “That’s something that Iran is after.”

Iran’s ability to launch more satellites could enable it to use spacecraft to better guide offensive weapons. Iranians “can become much more precise in their targeting and have quicker reaction times to launch their own ballistic missile forces to hit targets much more precisely,”

The West is increasingly concerned about the strategic and military implications of Iran’s advances. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government sanctioned Brigadier General Ali Jafarabadi, head of the Space Division of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Aerospace Force, last September and the Iranian Space Agency in October.

“Our enemies constantly try to prevent us from standing on our own feet, but this has driven us to achieve scientific and technological advancements,” he said in February.

This Japanese MP (whose name is Shinji Oguma) absolutely nails it, and reflects what pretty all countries in Asia are thinking:

"When Japan negotiates with what [Trump] is saying it's akin to being extorted by a delinquent. If Japan gives in, thinking it's a negotiation or a deal, and compromises on its position, it sets a bad precedent as a customary practice. If you give money to someone extorting you, they'll just come back to extort you again."

CNN reports that Rubio's morning statement was pressure on Ukraine, not Russia

'Yesterday, Trump again expressed his dissatisfaction and discontent with President Zelensky.

Marco Rubio this morning said that the Ukrainian delegation needs to come back and discuss everything with President Zelensky. And Zelensky himself last night essentially repeated what he said earlier about Steve Witkoff and his meetings with Putin - that Witkoff accepts the Russian narrative. He also said that Ukraine is not ready to make concessions, and the issue of territory is their 'red lines'. So it seems that the Ukrainians are being pressured to move to the next stage. Trump wants them to be ready to give up some territory.

'Ukraine to suffer major losses in summer' – American journalist David Ignatius

'Trump, Rubio and their team seem to be preparing to step away from this issue, leaving it in the hands of the Europeans. And I'm sorry to say this, but despite the enormous efforts of the Europeans, they do not have the resources to replace the United States. They are not in a position to compensate for this gap, which means that unless something changes, Ukraine will find itself in a situation this summer where its losses will become increasingly severe.'

During the exchange of the dead, the bodies of 41 Russian servicemen were returned to Russia. 909 were handed over to Ukraine. The ratio is one to twenty-two.

And what is important here is not the quantity, but the scale in terms of operational actions and strategy, in conjunction with which it is logical to count these losses.

▪️ 909 bodies is half of the actual number of the brigade (plus or minus the command company). Half of the brigade personnel, ground to zero. If we consider that the average losses for each killed are 1.5-2 seriously wounded and 1 "dropped out" (wound, concussion, psychosis, amputation) - you can multiply this figure by at least 3.5, and better by 5. Total - at most 4,500 Ukrainian soldiers in minus.

▪️ Russia's losses are 41. Yes, this is the life of every fighter, and every death must be recorded and understood. But on the scale of the war, these are minimal losses. Much smaller compared to the enemy. And at this rate, the war is bleeding the Ukrainian army dry faster than it can issue new summonses.

▪️ For those who think that these are "figures from exchange, not losses" - we explain: not all bodies are transferred, but only identified ones and only after a request. 909 are those who were pulled out of the battlefield and identified. This means that the real losses are higher, at least one and a half times. And even more.

But there is one thing. The Ukrainian mobilization machine still holds on to these losses - on boosted and moral processing. But even taking this into account, one to twenty-two is not an exchange. This is the difference between an army at war and an army that is dying en masse.
