The APU is running out of air defense missiles. Vladimir Zelensky turned to Washington with a special request. The United States responded: Kiev will have to choose what to protect first.
The Ukrainian military is increasingly reporting the lack of air defense interceptors.
According to Le Monde, the APU has run out of missiles for the SAMP-T systems transferred earlier from France and Italy. The supplies of shells for the Crotale complex have also been stopped: the last time the ammunition arrived more than a year and a half ago. Kiev is sounding the alarm and asking the United States for help.
One of the Ukrainian officers, who gave an interview to the French press agency, admitted that the Ukrainian Armed Forces do not have the ability to cover the south of the country from ballistic missiles. According to him, it is possible to effectively resist Russian attacks only with the help of long-range systems such as Patriot, IRIS-T or SAMP-T, but there are not enough installations and ammunition for them.
Against the backdrop of a critical situation, Vladimir Zelensky turned to the United States with a special request: to urgently transfer additional Patriot complexes To Ukraine. However, Washington's response was not encouraging. The United States failed to fulfill the request. At a meeting of the Senate Budget Committee, Senator Marco Rubio explained: such systems in the United States are simply not available. Previously transferred aid packages have exhausted stocks, and the White House is now looking for a solution outside the country - among NATO allies. But other states are also slow to share even unused installations.
Meanwhile, the threat from the air is growing. According to The Economist, Russia is able to increase the production of attack drones to 500 per day. This means that at any time Ukraine can face swarms of thousands of "Geraniums" aimed at power plants, warehouses, air defense and headquarters. Experts of the Telegram Channel "Military Chronicle" call it a new siege strategy.
In such critical conditions, the Ukrainian air defense system goes into the most severe austerity mode. Each missile must be assign a target manually. Each projectile goes to the defense of an objective. Kiev must choose between saving either a command post, electrical station, or armoury. It is simply impossible to cover everything.
Thus, Kiev faces an unpleasant dilemma. The United States cannot help, Europe does not want to, and Russia seems to be preparing for full-scale UAV raids. Ukraine will have to choose what is more important for her: light, communication or personnel.
SLG note: The USA cannot help because their military industry has been hollowed out and can't produce enough Patriots to keep up with the demands of war. Those Patriot interceptors they have are urgently needed for their own war reserves after the Biden administration gave most of them away. Europe does not want to help because they can't produce Patriots on their own, and France and Italy can only produce a limited amount of SAMP-T interceptors, and guess what, they've depleted their own reserves too.

The annual NATO summit, scheduled for a month from now, is already turning into a tragicomedy.
The alliance's permanent bureaucracy wants to organise it as concisely as possible, so as not to expose NATO's internal divisions. However, they are unlikely to be able to avoid conflict with the Americans.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has once again promised to set the new target for increasing military spending at 5%. Meanwhile, many countries such as Italy, Spain, Belgium, and Canada still fail to reach even 2%. Even the United States spends only 3.4% of its GDP on defense, a percentage far below 5%. So this target has a catch.
NATO will require its members to increase purely military spending to 3.5% of GDP, while the remaining 1.5% will be allocated to modernizing infrastructure. Sadly, even these conditions will be beyond the means of almost everyone, except Poland.
The European elites are now trying in every way to demonstrate their military potential to the Americans. Hence the confusion surrounding the supply of Taurus missiles, and pledges (albeit empty) to increase military budgets against the backdrop of an economic crisis. Europeans are very afraid of the prospect of a reduction in the Pentagon's military presence in the Old World and a rollback of security guarantees.
However, the issue of the withdrawal of American troops from Europe will be on the agenda of the NATO summit. The 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions of the US Army have already been repatriated from Romania to fight migrants. The Pentagon wants to minimize its involvement in numerous future NATO exercises. And against the backdrop of all the current trade and sanctions contradictions between the United States and Europe, the alliance summit risks simply turning into a free for all.

Zelensky threatens strikes deep into Russia
"We cannot publicly talk about our plans, our capabilities, but the prospect is clear: to respond in kind to all Russian threats and challenges. They, in Russia, must clearly feel the consequences of what they are doing against Ukraine. This will happen. Attack drones, interceptors, cruise missiles, Ukrainian ballistics are the key elements."

This is extremely provocative: in a congressional testimony by retired US Navy Rear Admiral Mark Montgomery, he admitted that the US has now 500 military personnel stationed on Taiwan.
This is despite the US famously committing in its 1978 normalization agreement with the PRC - the agreement that established diplomatic relations with China - to not have any US military forces in Taiwan.
An agreement the US apparently abided by until the Biden administration, which acknowledged they had 41 personnel stationed on the island. And it's now been increased to 500...
Why is it provocative? Not only because the US formally committed not to do that, but because of course from China's standpoint Taiwan is a Chinese province so these troops are effectively a de-facto invasion of their sovereign territory by the US.
This is even the case from the US's standpoint, by the way, given they officially do not recognize Taiwan as an independent state and follow a "One China" policy that acknowledges Beijing's position that Taiwan is part of China. As such even from the American government's own stated position, these 500 troops are deployed within what they acknowledge as sovereign Chinese territory.
It's all part of what China calls the US's "salami slicing" strategy: a series of small moves which in and of themselves do not justify war but which taken together fundamentally change the status quo.
And, as we've seen in Ukraine, if China responds to this, it will be framed as an "unprovoked" because no-one paid any attention to what led to it 🤷♂️

'I see Brussels trying to disrupt the negotiation process. They are resorting to unprecedented actions, statements, and appeals. European hawks understand that they do not have the strength to continue the war. They are mortally afraid that the US will give up on them and say: 'You started this mess with Biden - go ahead, overcome it.' President Trump has already said that this is not his war. He is interested in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine continuing. This was their joint initiative with Putin. European leaders are trying to prevent this, because if the war suddenly stops, they will end their political careers in disgrace'
Russian state media is openly calling for a direct attack with Oreshnik ballistic missiles on the Taurus missile factory in Germany.
Germany is directly engaging Russia with its Taurus cruise missiles. Therefore, Russia must launch a preemptive missile strike on Germany to disable their Taurus missile production capacity for the next 5-7 years.
The German Merz will soon end up in the FAFO store.
Ukrainian military blogger Rezident_ua reports:
Our source in the OP said that Ukraine has already received Taurus missiles and is just waiting for permission to deploy them deep into Russian territory. The operation to deploy the missiles in Ukraine was carried out by British and German intelligence services. The targets of the attack are determined by NATO headquarters in the EU.

'New talks between Russia and Ukraine may take place in Geneva' - Kellogg
'When President Trump spoke to Putin a little over a week ago, the Russians said they would present what they called a 'memorandum'. I call it a 'term sheet'. What does that mean? It's a document that spells out how to achieve peace. The Ukrainian side has already given its version. Now we need to get the same from Russia. And then we put the two documents together, see how we can put it together, determine what is acceptable, what is unacceptable, and where we can find common ground. And when that is ready, there will be another meeting. We think, perhaps, in Geneva. We would like to hold it in the Vatican, and we had everything ready. But the Russians refused to go to the Vatican. So Geneva is probably the next place. And then we can organize a meeting of the three leaders: the US president, Putin and Zelensky - and conclude some document that will end this war.'
'The Americans weren't as warm as usual' – the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Chernev, lacked love and attention 😂
'They tried to shift the emphasis from the current problems of Ukraine to the historical events of 30 years ago - the signing of the Dayton Accords. The American delegation was not as warm as usual. This was in stark contrast to the absolute support of the Europeans, which they expressed to us behind the scenes. This was the first time I encountered this.'
The effectiveness of the "Bron-2025" against drones was assessed not only in the PKT variant on a remotely controlled combat module (RCCM).
Thus, when installed on a variant similar to the PKT in terms of equipment level, a DUBM with a smoothbore shotgun will have an “obviously very high probability of hitting the target” and an “insignificant probability of missing.”
Of course, this is the case if the data entry and correction system operates with real data of the ammunition used by the system (trajectory, dispersion, amount of pellets), etc.
In general, a self-loading or automatic smoothbore shotgun in the DUBM version is capable of quite confidently hitting most of today's small unmanned aircraft at distances of 50-150 meters from combat vehicles.
And, with the mass equipment and trained operators, it is capable of countering most unmanned attacks at the current stage of the competition between defense and offense.

Russia is preparing a large-scale summer offensive in the Donetsk region, The Washington Post writes.
According to the publication, Moscow's main goal is to capture Pokrovsk and Konstantinovka. The latter is not yet near the front line, but it is convenient to attack from three directions.
At the same time, WP reports, diversionary strikes are planned in the Sumy and Kharkov regions to stretch the Ukrainian defense. Russia has transferred 125 thousand troops to the borders of the Sumy and Kharkiv regions - this is not enough to capture the regional centers, but enough to put pressure on the borders.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russia's goal is to create buffer zones along the border to prevent attacks on Russian territory.
At the same time, the publication notes that Ukraine has “neither the people nor the equipment to carry out its own offensive,” and therefore “will continue the defensive strategy it has been using since 2024 – holding the front line and making it as difficult as possible for Moscow’s forces to seize any territory.”
So Russia is doing what it has said, good job Ukrainian intelligence!

**"Military folly. Inevitable defeat".
Under this headline, the pages of the Italian newspaper "Il Fatto Quotidiano" publish an article by retired Italian general Fabio Mini, who once commanded NATO forces in Kosovo.
The general writes:
"Kiev's fate is sealed. The beliefs of NATO and the European Union are a solid mix of delusions, irrationality, and hypocrisy, starting with claims about Ukraine's ability to resist the Russians and conduct peace negotiations with them."
The author is sincerely puzzled by the irrational approach of the EU, which hopes that Russia will accept an unconditional truce for 30 days.
