Trump will not sign a joint G7 statement calling for de-escalation of relations between Israel and Iran, CNN reports, citing a source.
A draft statement prepared by European officials at a summit of leading industrialized nations says Israel has the right to self-defense and that Iran cannot obtain nuclear weapons.
"Under President Trump's strong leadership, the United States has returned to leadership in efforts to restore peace around the world. President Trump will continue to work to ensure Iran cannot obtain a nuclear weapon," a White House spokesman said when asked about Trump's plans for a joint statement.
Meanwhile, a senior Canadian official did not confirm the claim that Trump would definitely not sign the joint statement.
"This is not a done deal yet, it is something that will be discussed at the leadership level," the official said.

Trump briefed G7 leaders on talks to reach a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, French President Emmanuel Macron said.
"The Americans have offered to meet with the Iranians, now we'll see what comes of it. European partners are ready to hold serious nuclear talks with Iran if a ceasefire is reached."
Macron also noted that attempting to force regime change in Iran would be a strategic mistake.

Senior Houthi political official Mohammed al-Bukhaiti told The New York Times that Israel “has not succeeded in targeting any leader” from the group, after claims it had struck General Mohammed al-Ghamari, the Chief of Staff of the Houthi armed forces.
