🇭🇺🇺🇦🇪🇺Hungary may veto EU plans to conduct military exercises in Ukraine and train Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers by Europeans after a ceasefire, - Politico.
- "I welcome the fact that today there is broad support for expanding the mandate to provide training and advisory services on Ukrainian territory after any ceasefire," said the bloc's chief diplomat Kaja Kallas after an informal meeting of EU defense ministers in Copenhagen.
- However, such a decision requires unanimous approval from all 27 EU capitals, which gives Hungary, currently in conflict with Kyiv, the right to veto, Politico notes.
- As part of the mission to assist Kirv, 23 EU countries, as well as Norway and Canada, have already trained about 80,000 Ukrainian military personnel.

Donald Trump suggested deploying Chinese troops as peacekeepers in postwar Ukraine, lending support to a proposal first put forward by Russia’s Vladimir Putin, according to four people briefed on discussions.
Trump proposed inviting China to supply peacekeepers to monitor a neutral zone along Ukraine’s 1,300km front line as part of a peace settlement with Russia in a meeting with European leaders and Ukraine’s president at the White House last week, according to the people.
“This is false,” said a senior Trump administration official, adding there had been “no discussion of Chinese peacekeepers”.
The idea is opposed by European capitals and has previously been rejected by Zelensky because of Beijing’s critical support for Russia’s war effort.
So that would also conversely bar any countries who supported Ukraine. China has literally sold to both Russia and Ukraine, but is seen by EU/Ukraine as not viable? So who does that leave?

🇷🇺🇺🇸"Russia is working to prevent opponents of the settlement in Ukraine from disrupting the understanding reached (by Putin and Trump) in Alaska," — Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov
- Moscow expects Washington to continue efforts within the framework of the agreements in Alaska;
- Europe, however, is openly sabotaging the agreements of the Alaska summit;
- Russia hopes that contact with the US on mutual irritants may take place in the coming weeks.

Russian energy company Novatek partially resumed gas condensate processing at its complex in the Baltic port of Ust-Luga, two market sources said on Friday, after suspending the operations last weekend due to a fire after a drone attack.
One of the three units at the complex was relaunched at full capacity on August 26, the sources said.
The Ust-Luga complex has three processing units with a capacity of 3 million metric tons a year each and refines stable gas condensate into light and heavy naphtha, jet fuel, ship fuel component (fuel oil) and gasoil.
A drone attack caused a fire at the complex early on August 24 leading all operations, including fuel export loadings, to be fully shut on Sunday.

Bundestag deputy Kizevetter on the fact that Germans cannot be forced into the army by threats of "otherwise Putin will attack":
[How do you plan to implement this? We see that Generation Z and those who come after it have a completely different view of life. Yes, they understand that Russia poses a threat, but for them the main thing is the balance between work and personal life, a three-day workweek, 30 working hours, and free time. But in the army, which must be combat-ready, this is impossible. A soldier cannot say, "Well, I've been in the trench or on a mission for three days, I'll go take a rest."]
Therefore, we talk about duties. Volunteer initiatives are good when it comes to peacetime. But the younger generation must be prepared, and we, the older ones, must also contribute. After all, conscription was effectively abolished for 14 years. We destroyed all the structures that now have to be painstakingly restored.
The younger generation will be able to live in peace, freedom, and tranquility only if it is ready to contribute to the security of our country. And this cannot be achieved by balancing work and personal life alone. The balance between work and personal life is good when you are free and live in peace. But these values still need to be defended.
Russia will not wait until 2029. We expect escalation within the next two years. Delaying on our part would be a sign of complacency.

🇺🇦🤡Zelensky outlined three blocks of security guarantees demanded by Kiev:
Security guarantees. I won’t disclose all the details. I believe the following blocks are important for Ukraine.
The first block is what everyone understands - our army. In my opinion, this block consists of funding the number of personnel that exists today. The ability to finance the army in exactly the amount that currently defends our borders. No one is talking about more. Because no one else will provide more.
Next, weapons for this army. Three tracks that need to be supported and financed. And for this, partners are needed. The first track is our domestic production, drones, technology, etc. The second track is European production, small arms, artillery, etc. The third track is American weapons, which is a corridor through NATO as financing. But separately, an agreement on American weapons that we need, strengthening the army as part of security guarantees. As I said, we have done our homework. We have passed this agreement to America. This concerns the first part of the security guarantee - our army.
The second part. We have always wanted to join NATO with you. NATO does not want this or is not giving it to us yet, so there is NATO-lite. Therefore, my approach to this is very clear. If not NATO, but we are told it is like NATO in strength, but not NATO. We must understand what partners are ready for. Because this is the North Atlantic Alliance. Right? Like. And so this part, I want to discuss with partners next week in Europe.
And the third block, which is very important - sanctions, because all this is security guarantees. What are security guarantees? Suppose Russia attacks us from the sea, who, what, and how will defend? From the air, which partners are ready for what? And on the ground, from Belarus, from Russia, who is ready for what, where to support Ukraine? We need to see who is ready to provide what to Ukraine. And for how long. Therefore, sanctions are in the third block. And I believe that Russian assets, because this is the restoration of our state, energy, communications, etc. This is also part of our security guarantees. Approximately these blocks I see.

🇭🇺🇺🇦Hungary's Minister for EU Affairs, János Bóka, on the strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the "Druzhba" oil pipeline:
It is absolutely clear to me that the Ukrainians definitely understand what and why they are bombing. They know exactly where this pipeline starts and where it leads. They are fully aware of what this means for the Russian energy sector and understand what percentage of Russia's energy revenues come from the energy carriers transported via the "Druzhba" oil pipeline. Moreover, they clearly understand that this will not bring the Russian energy sector to its knees but will cause damage to Hungary and Slovakia. So putting together the pieces of this puzzle is not difficult.
And this fits into the negotiation strategy of the Ukrainians. The Ukrainian government has always acted this way; this is not some current peculiarity. They have always spoken the language of power and understood only the language of power. The entire context of the Ukrainians' actions here is clear from the perspective of political pressure.

Wow. Ukraine is not ready to end the war?’ – CNN is surprised by the facts.
‘While Trump was silent all day, we heard a statement from the White House. Here’s what we heard: ‘Perhaps both sides of this war are not ready to end it themselves.’ Wow. Both sides? Putin struck Ukraine last night — 598 drones and 31 missiles? This is not a ‘both sides’ situation. Not last night, not today, nor since February 2022, when Putin invaded a sovereign country with the intent to overthrow its government, seize it, and make it part of Russia. But maybe the talk of ‘two sides’ appeared because Trump publicly left Putin room for his war.’
"A couple of soldiers at the buffer zone won't stop Russia," ex-Pentagon analyst says.
"The Western press continues to publish articles regarding the possible future configuration of the buffer zone between Russian and Ukrainian troops. As previously reported by Military Review, a "three-tiered" option was initially proposed, under which peacekeeping forces from "neutral" states would be deployed directly along the front line, followed by units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and finally by a European contingent.
Now Politico is writing about the option of creating a 40-kilometer buffer zone, "allegedly proposed by Moscow" (🤣)
At the same time, Western "experts" immediately identify "Russia's malicious intent" in such a proposal. According to the Western version, it is because "Moscow thus wants to deploy a small number of peacekeeping forces along a wide front line."
At the same time, five European diplomats (the publication does not name any of them specifically) discuss a scenario with a 40-kilometer-deep buffer zone, adding the following:
It is unclear whether Kiev will accept this option or not. At the same time, the United States, apparently, is not involved in the issue of establishing a buffer zone.
What follows is typical European rhetoric about how "Vladimir Putin shows no desire to stop the fighting." Does Mr. Zelensky demonstrate any? Or should the attacks on the Druzhba pipeline, Russian refineries, and other energy and transport infrastructure on Russian soil be considered manifestations of a "desire to stop the fighting"?
Former Pentagon employee James Townsend:
Russians are not afraid of Europeans. And if they think that a few British or French soldiers on the front lines will prevent the Russian army from advancing again, they are sadly mistaken."
According to the publication, the possible future division is compared to the type of internal border within Germany during the Cold War, while avoiding comparisons with the border on the Korean Peninsula.

🇺🇸🇷🇺"Trump admin offers subdued response to Russia's assault on Kiev, and Europe's outrage": Allies tried to convince Trump that the attacks showed Putin's lack of interest in peace, but they failed.
"President Donald Trump was not particularly concerned about Vladimir Putin's nighttime bombing of Kyiv — the largest Russian attack since the leaders' meeting two weeks ago. European leaders spent the morning trying to convince him otherwise. In a stream of social media messages, they pointed to the Russian shelling as proof of Putin's insincerity in his peace efforts.
However, on Thursday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt hinted that the attack on Ukraine's capital, which killed at least 19 people, including four children, was a clear response to Ukraine's attack on Russian oil refineries last month.
The administration's neutral response to the Russian attack came despite public statements from European allies insisting that Russia's offensive was more than just a retaliatory reaction. Stubb, Macron, Starmer, and others condemning the Russian attacks and publicly questioning Putin's intentions are trying to use yesterday's attack on Ukraine to appeal to Trump's unwillingness to see the victims, said a senior European official."

🇪🇺🇺🇦The European Union wants to make significant investments in the Ukrainian military industry, "relocating it to Europe," which will create many new jobs, Kallas said at a press conference following the first day of the informal meeting of EU foreign ministers and defense ministers in Copenhagen. According to her, many countries in the bloc have expressed interest in this.
Danish Defense Minister Poulsen, for his part, expressed hope that within a few weeks the country will invite "the first defense companies from Ukraine to start production in Denmark, in a safe environment." It was previously announced that the Danish authorities are ready to host three to five Ukrainian defense enterprises in the city of Odense on the island of Funen, where a drone production center was established in March.
