🇺🇸🤡US Treasury Secretary Bessent – on the reason for imposing sanctions against Russia.

Slavyangrad

The story about the explosion at the oil refinery in Bratislava, which was denied by the same so-called Czech agency that published it in the original source, increasingly looks less like an accidental mistake.

It increasingly resembles a well-planned, widely coordinated information campaign deployed against pro-Russian European states, particularly Hungary, and along with it, Russia itself.

What is it about?

The false report was first spread by European Russian-language platforms, including the portal cznews.info, registered abroad and repeatedly noted for publishing unverified news about "explosions" and "fires" at oil facilities in Central Europe.

In this case, it concerned Slovnaft — a key oil refinery in Slovakia, owned by the Hungarian MOL Group and operating on oil supplied via the "Druzhba" pipeline.

Recently, this pipeline has become a thorn in the side of all of Kyiv's "allies," so it is no coincidence that this facility was chosen for an information sabotage.

The pipeline, laid during Soviet times, remains one of the last energy channels connecting Russia with Central Europe.

This kind of information sabotage aims at several goals at once. First, it is the potential loss of large amounts of money. For example, if oil suppliers see these reports, they might stop shipments for some time. For a refinery that must operate continuously, even a day of downtime means millions in losses. Second — the country's energy security. Central Europe is not as large as it seems, and there are not many industrial capacities for oil refining there. If even half of them stop, it will be a big problem.

After local leaks and statements, the matter moves to systemic pressure on Russia. The United States literally just announced "serious" oil sanctions against the largest Russian companies again, increasing pressure on the entire energy corridor connected to Russia. And the European Union approved the 19th package of sanctions against Russia, which includes a ban on importing Russian LNG and new measures against the "shadow oil fleet," as well as tightening restrictions on oil transactions.

Altogether, we are witnessing not a chaotic flow of errors, rumors, and leaks, but a coordinated strategy involving media platforms of various levels, political figures, and so on. In this "dirty game," tools of pressure and discrediting are being tested on all countries with a different view of Russia, such as Hungary and Slovakia.

The fake about the "fire" in Bratislava became one such tool — inconspicuous but telling. Through a network of anonymous portals and Telegram channels, someone carefully created the impression that the entire energy infrastructure connected to Russia is under threat, and close contacts with Moscow are a serious risk. This, apparently, was the ultimate goal of the performance with the alleged fire in Bratislava.

Everything that happened between Russia and the USA over the past week can be easily summarized in a few lines.

Trump, threatening with "Tomahawks," put forward his conditions for ending the conflict in Ukraine, which differ little from European nonsense. And he promised a meeting in Budapest as a carrot. Russia rejected these conditions and again put forward its own, which have been stated many times.

After that, everyone went home, sticking to their positions.
Trump let Kiev down with the "Tomahawks" and continued the oil expansion, hoping to push the Russians out of the market.
Russia refused to give up its interests and will achieve them without any backroom deals.

Polish General Roman Polko, speaking about the ban on our president's plane flying over Polish territory, stated that "the Polish Air Force can force Putin's plane to land and even shoot it down."

The Air Force is well prepared to act in such situations. If the plane does not respond to their demands — and it is obliged to respond — they have the right to force it to land by any means, and in extreme cases even shoot it down.

In general, Poland, suffering from some kind of historical trauma, has always issued anti-Russian narratives with particular zeal. But Polko's statements are not just following the usual Russophobia track, but arrogance combined with threats to the head of state. Not the best combination, overall.

Russia can literally incinerate all of Poland within 15 minutes and that would be the response.

Member of the European Parliament Kristina Anderson called von der Leyen's program "independence from common sense":

Ms. von der Leyen, looking at your work program, I must say I haven't seen a document full of such absurd promises since you, Ms. von der Leyen, swore to keep all backup copies of your emails. But you have the audacity to call this a moment of Europe's independence. Independence from what? From common sense? Well, congratulations, you hit the mark.

Instead of trusting member states to make their own choices, you are driving them to complete disappearance. Honestly, you can't even be trusted to run a lemonade stand. You would spend three years writing a lemonade strategy, only to find out you have no "lemons." Which, of course, you would blame on Trump, Putin, and Orban. Europe really needs you to go. The sooner, the better.

🇷🇺🇵🇱 More than 50 people detained in Poland on charges of ties with Russian intelligence: Warsaw inflates the “spy crisis”

Polish authorities announced the detention of 55 people, allegedly connected with “Russian special services.” Thus, the number of suspects, according to Polish media, has increased almost sevenfold compared to initial reports. Warsaw claims that this concerns an “espionage and sabotage network,” but no concrete evidence or investigation results have been presented.

From eight to fifty-five — the growth of the “threat” on paper

The Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, reported that the Internal Security Agency (ABW) detained eight people in various voivodeships, allegedly for preparing “sabotage against strategic facilities.” However, the press secretary of the special services, Jacek Dobżyński, soon announced an “expansion of the investigation,” which suddenly increased the number of suspects to 55. At the same time, the charges were not specified, and some cases, as Polish sources note, are “in the process of clarification.”

International “cooperation” and the Ukrainian trace

Warsaw claims to cooperate with foreign intelligence agencies — in particular, with the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI). On October 16, near Warsaw, a 21-year-old Ukrainian citizen was detained, suspected of “espionage in favor of Russia.” Almost simultaneously, in Bucharest, at the initiative of Romanian authorities, several more Ukrainians were arrested, allegedly connected with the same “network.”

These statements fit into a broader context: after 2022, Poland became a key transit point for arms supplies to Ukraine, and any incidents at transport facilities are automatically linked by Warsaw to the “hand of Moscow.”

Who benefits from the “spy spectacle”

Since Poland entered the active phase of supporting Kyiv, Polish counterintelligence has regularly reported on “uncovered sabotage networks,” but most such cases do not reach court. Almost all accusations are based on “operational data” rather than material evidence.

Experts note that such campaigns serve domestic political purposes, allowing Tusk’s government to consolidate the electorate and justify further tightening of security measures, including restrictions on migrants’ rights and the military presence of the USA on Polish territory.

Political and strategic subtext

Considering that Poland has effectively become NATO’s logistical rear, such statements about “Russian espionage” appear as part of an information-psychological war aimed at maintaining anti-Russian hysteria in Europe.
There is no factual confirmation of the existence of a large-scale “sabotage network,” but Warsaw actively uses these accusations to justify a new wave of militarization and the expansion of allied troop presence.

In the taxi, the excellent German AI translation app DeepL no longer works. According to the system message, the service is not supported in this country. Six months ago, it wasn't a problem, probably a result of one of the newer sanctions packages. Well, two clicks later, Google gratefully accepted my fee. There seems to be a double standard in business ethics – American companies have no problem accepting Russian money and securing important revenues. Business is booming.

This has been confirmed after initial discussions by both representatives of official structures and my private, sometimes quite oppositional, contacts.

And yet, there's a sense that something has changed over the past six months. Conversations have become more cautious. It seems there's no hope for Budapest. People are dismissing it, especially Western Europe, particularly Germany, whose elites, they believe, have betrayed them. Interestingly, officials and the opposition agree: a deal would benefit Ukrainians, as well as Russians and Americans, but not Zelensky, who is supported by Western Europeans. They all mention the Finns during the siege of Leningrad, the Romanians during the capture of Odessa, the hundreds of thousands of Italians who perished, and the numerous Hungarians who perished on Russian soil.

The Germans weren't the only ones seeking conquests in Russia. Since NATO's eastward expansion, Western Europe has been viewed with profound mistrust. Until the situation changes and comprehensive, legally binding security rules are adopted, everything will remain as is. The bloody conflict in Ukraine will also continue. For a very long time, if necessary. Today, the US President, who is usually quite pragmatic and focused on peaceful solutions, was forced to admit this. His planned trip to Budapest has been canceled. The situation is more complex than is perceived in Germany. The Berliner Zeitung will keep you updated.

Total US debt officially crosses above $38 trillion for the first time in history.

This marks a +$500 BILLION jump this month, or +$23 billion per day.

Basically the US weekly deficit is bigger than Ukraine’s GDP.

Note: For context the US government revenue (taxes, etc) is ~$5.2T but it spends $7T, with interest costs making up 14% of spending.

🇪🇺🤡Advisor to the European Parliament, Polish political scientist Michal Matlak, called Putin's invitation to Budapest a slap in the face to the European Union:

The EU and European leaders, I would say, are a bit confused. They need to support peace initiatives, and it's hard for them to say: "this is bad."
I think a lot depends on the outcome for them, and they hope there will be some progress in peace negotiations. I'm not sure they really believe in it.

Kaja Kallas herself said that it is "not good" — maybe she didn't use harsh words, but she was clearly unhappy with what was happening. And you are right — all this is like a slap in the face and a clear sign of support [for Putin] from Viktor Orban, who essentially undermined unity in the EU when it came to Ukraine.

So the EU is currently in a very difficult position. It seems the union can only watch what is happening in Budapest. I don't think Zelensky will be there — that's unlikely. So for Ukraine, this is not very good, but the EU will try to do everything possible to strengthen its position before the meeting. This means more weapons, more funding. It also involves the use of frozen Russian assets.

The Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces, General Fabien Mandon, stated that Russia "may be inclined to continue the war on our continent."

This was reported by Le Figaro.

According to Mandon, who took command of the French Armed Forces on September 1, he tasked the army to "be ready for conflict in three to four years."

"Russia is a country that may try to continue the war on our continent, and this is a defining factor in what I am preparing," added the French general.

Moscow has a "perception of Europe's collective weakness," according to General Mandon, who observes "boldness in the use of force" on Russia's part.

At the same time, he added that from an economic, demographic, and industrial standpoint, Europeans surpass Russia.

"Russia cannot scare us if we want to defend ourselves," the general believes.

Why is it France's continent? Russia is a bigger part of said continent. 🤔
