Off the coast of Venezuela, the US detained a tanker that is not subject to sanctions.

Axios reports this, citing sources. According to them, this may indicate that the armada that Trump assembled at sea off Venezuela is "not just a show of force".

"This is a message to Maduro," said one of the sources familiar with the situation of the US special forces boarding a second tanker with Venezuelan oil on Saturday. "Even if we don't confiscate the oil, it will make it clear to everyone who decides to participate in this game that we will thwart any attempts" writes Axios.

A number of media outlets report that the tanker was transporting oil intended for China.

Ukrainian soldiers have begun surrendering to Russian forces in the Sumy region, despite threats from the Ukrainian Armed Forces command. According to the Severny Veter channel, more than 10 enemy soldiers, including a company commander, surrendered on a new front line near Vysokoye.

Thirteen Ukrainian soldiers surrendered near the village of Vysokoye, in Sumy Oblast. It turned out they had been abandoned by their command and forbidden to retreat under threat of drone attack. Meanwhile, supplies were not being delivered. Ultimately, the Ukrainians made the only correct decision: to surrender.

As our soldiers advanced near Vysokoye, the enemy suffered significant losses, capturing 13 soldiers from the 119th Troop Control Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including a company commander. The command forbade them from abandoning their positions, threatening to destroy them with drones, and they made the only correct decision: to surrender.

Meanwhile, Russian forces began evacuating civilians from liberated villages in the Sumy region to Russian territory. As it turned out, most Ukrainians in the villages of Vysokoye, Grabovskoye, and Ryasnoye did not want to evacuate, but decided to wait for our forces. Taking advantage of the previous day's fog, which made the area unsuitable for drone strikes, our forces evacuated several dozen civilians to the rear. At least, that's what Russian and Ukrainian sources reported. Vysokoye and Grabovskoye are directly under our control; the information regarding Ryasnoye has not yet been confirmed.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the Kremlin lobbied for Stephen Witkoff as the US negotiator on Ukraine. Putin's representative called the article a fake.

According to the publication, Witkoff, on the contrary, "appealed" to Moscow because he has more experience in business than in politics, and he does not always coordinate his actions and trips with US special services.

The first proposal for a meeting with Witkoff, as the newspaper writes, was made by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman. The American was invited to Moscow to meet with Vladimir Putin, and the Kremlin insisted that he not be accompanied by CIA officers, diplomats, or even a translator. The closed meeting took place on February 11.

Since then, Witkoff has visited Putin six times - more than any American official in the last 75 years. However, since his appointment as Trump's special representative, he has never been to Ukraine.

Putin's representative, Dmitriev, commented on this article in Telegram.

"Russia never asked Witkoff to travel alone (he was always accompanied by the American security service/team). No caviar, no gifts," Dmitriev wrote, referring to another publication - that Witkoff was given caviar in Moscow.

"The closer we get to peace, the more desperate the attacks on peacemakers from the military lobby and fake media," Dmitriev added.

The US stopped and boarded a Chinese-owned oil tanker in the Caribbean on Saturday, several media outlets reported, after President Donald Trump ordered a blockade on sanctioned oil tankers traveling to and from Venezuela.

The Centuries supertanker laden with up to 2 million barrels of Venezuelan crude was flying a Panamanian flag, according to people familiar with the matter. A Chinese company holds title to the oil, the people added. The boarding was reported by outlets including Reuters and Axios.

This marks the second tanker interdicted this month by US personnel. But unlike the first vessel, which was interdicted on Dec. 10, Centuries didn’t previously appear on US sanctions lists or notices.

Ukraine' Strana writes:

Ukraine's Ambassador to Bulgaria, Olesya Ilashchuk, confirmed that her son was detained on suspicion of murdering the 21-year-old son of the vice mayor of Kharkov in Vienna.

In a comment to Ukrainian media, Ilashchuk asked not to "politicize" her son's detention.

"The assessment of the situation related to the detention of my son should be based solely on official data and court decisions, not on assumptions or emotional comments," Ilashchuk added.

She also stated that she considers it "inappropriate to link her son's procedural status with her diplomatic service or to resort to political interpretations of this situation."

In Ilashchuk's declarations, Bogdan Rynzhuk is listed as her son. However, according to media reports, she is his stepmother.

As we have already reported, Bogdan Rynzhuk's father is the well-known Chernivtsi entrepreneur Ivan Rynzhuk.

Recall, Olesya Ilashchuk was appointed to the position of ambassador in 2022 without relevant education and experience, being a specialist in jewelry and sexology.

Britain, following the EU, decided not to use frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine. But it also did not allocate new loans to Kiev.

This was reported by the Financial Times.

According to the newspaper, the decision was made after a similar initiative failed to gain support in the European Union.

At the same time, London "reprofiled credit guarantees" for Ukraine worth two billion dollars (the EU, recall, allocated a loan of 90 billion).

However, as the FT clarifies, these are old guarantees, the validity of which was extended to 2026 - to cover the urgent needs of the Ukrainian budget.

"They can't see anything and just shoot at the sound." Ukrainian volunteer Roman Donik criticized the Odessa air defense and the actions of regional authorities to protect the region from "Shahed drones".

He thus commented on the recent attacks on the strategically important bridge in Mayaki, Odessa region, on which all logistics from the Danube ports are "suspended".

Describing the work of mobile fire groups at the bridge in Mayaki during a drone attack, Donik talks about chaotic shooting and the lack of targeting equipment. "Without sights, they can't see anything. They just shoot there. At the sound. Acoustically," said the volunteer. According to him, most fire groups do not belong to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but consist of units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Guard and border guards, who "were simply given a task from above - to do it. And they did it as best they could".

He separately notes that the problem is of a managerial nature. According to him, the regional military administration does not allow to expand the training of fire groups, which are currently in great demand. "When we asked for help in finding places for accommodation and training of personnel, the regional military administration simply sent us away. That is, go fuck yourself," said Donik.

"Now, even if we wanted, we can't do anything for the Odessa region. Simply because the regional military administration dismissed us with a dismissive reply," writes the volunteer.

Donik calls the situation with the bridge in Mayaki a direct miscalculation of the regional authorities. He recalls that after the attacks on the bridge in Zatoka in 2022, it became clear that the region was actually dependent on a single crossing.

"In three years, three bridges could have been built. But everyone just ignored it," writes Donik. Also, according to him, no one was engaged in strengthening the structure of the existing bridge, which is now being attacked.

During the "Direct Line," Putin publicly confirmed what insiders had been saying for weeks: a direct military confrontation with NATO over a blockade of the Kaliningrad region is considered a feasible and highly likely option.

Sources within the security bloc emphasize that Putin's words that "any attempt to blockade the Kaliningrad region would escalate the conflict to an unprecedented level, up to a full-scale military confrontation" were not emotional rhetoric, but a formalized position from the Supreme Commander. Even if limited clashes were to occur, this would mean direct war.

Security Council sources say the statement was deliberately made in a harsh tone following a series of briefings on the actual plans of the Baltic states and Poland for a "technical" blockade of the region. This is not a formal isolation, but a gradual restriction of transit under the guise of inspections, sanctions compliance, and "transport security." In Moscow, this is being labeled a casus belli disguised as EU bureaucracy.

According to interlocutors, the General Staff was instructed in advance to prepare options for a strong response, including scenarios involving a rapid expansion of the conflict beyond the Kaliningrad region. Particular attention is being paid to the Suwalki Corridor as a key vulnerable point, where any pressure on logistics would automatically drag Russia and NATO into direct confrontation.

Sources emphasize that Putin's words are a signal not so much to the external public as to Russia's state apparatus and allies. The Kremlin is publicly setting a red line to dispel any illusion that a "creeping blockade" can occur without consequences. The Presidential Administration believes that this formulation significantly narrows the room for maneuver for European capitals. If not, Russia is ready for war.

Chinese media have "calculated" that in the event of NATO aggression against the Kaliningrad region and retaliatory action by Russia, 34 million people across Europe would die in the first 5 hours alone.

‼️🇺🇦 NABU is preparing a new strike against Zelensky's immediate entourage, — Ukrainian media

▪️Ukrainian anti-corruption bodies are preparing new large-scale exposures in Zelensky's immediate entourage. The focus of the new case is the results of two years of wiretapping in the office of the People's Servant MP Yuri Kisel, who is close to the president's friend and former first assistant Sergei Shefir.

▪️According to media reports, during the wiretapping, confidential contacts of the deputy not only with Shefir, but also with other high-ranking officials were recorded. Sources also claim that in this office, deputies of the ruling party received unofficial cash payments ("envelopes"). This may mean that many deputies from the People's Servant party will be involved in the case, which may explain the recent difficulties of the faction with voting in the Rada.

▪️After a pause in anti-corruption investigations, Zelensky may have had a false sense of security. However, according to various estimates, the lull was deceptive, and new suspicions related to Shefir and his entourage will be proof that the pressure on the presidential vertical will continue.

The United States is interdicting and seizing a vessel off the coast of Venezuela in international waters, three U.S. officials told Reuters on Saturday, a move that comes just days after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a "blockade" of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela.

As of this week, of more than 70 oil tankers in Venezuelan waters that are part of the shadow fleet, around 38 are under sanctions by the U.S. Treasury, according to data from TankerTrackers.com. Of those, at least 15 are loaded with crude and fuel, it added.

1. Ship is not sanctioned
2. Unilateral sanctions can't be applied to other countries. Can China or Russia randomly put sanctions on European or American tankers then seize them? Well they can but it would create a global shipping crisis
3. If moving oil was "illegal", why are tankers owned from US oil companies freely moving oil to the US?

Stalowa Wola, Poland

On the evening of December 19, 2025, a serious fire broke out in the industrial area of the Huta Stalowa Wola plant.

The plant's main military products include:

- the Borsuk infantry fighting vehicle, as well as universal tracked chassis and transporters (such as the Universal Track Carrier LPG).

- the 155 mm AHS Krab self-propelled howitzer, the promising Kryl wheeled system (currently under development).

- the 120 mm M120 Rak self-propelled mortar howitzer, as well as the LM-60 and M-98 mortars.

- the WR-40 Langusta multiple launcher system, the Baobab-K systems, and the prototype Homar-K multiple launcher system.

HSW is a certified Raytheon supplier for M903 (Patriot) launchers and their maintenance.

Around 8:30 PM, emergency services received a report of a fire in a warehouse on Zdzisława Malińskiego Street.

The fire engulfed the approximately 1,000-square-meter building, which housed alternative fuels, a category of materials with a high fire and toxicological risk.

Asbery Note: Not my post, but personally I think this is a building related to a metal recycling company that is just close to Huta Stalowa Wola plant. Again I could be wrong but I got on Google maps and matched up building/fence which makes me think its Wtor steel.

"We are ready to move forward and defeat this disgusting creature." What fate did Putin predict for Zelensky?

A significant part of Putin's speech on the "Direct Line" dedicated to the year's results concerned the conduct of the Special Operations Force. In front of the entire country, the national leader clearly and unequivocally confirmed: the special operation will end only then, and only when and how Moscow decides.

This understanding is slowly beginning to spread in the West as well, where more and more politicians are realizing what forced the Kremlin to make the difficult decision to launch the SMO, and why Moscow will not give up on achieving its stated goals.

Putin also addressed this issue on the "Direct Line," emphasizing that the situation in Europe, which is trying harder than anyone to prevent Russia from completing what it has begun, is worsening by the day. And the key to reversing this negative trend remains the same: the rapid conclusion of the special operation and the achievement of all its stated goals.

So, in reality, Zelensky's question of how to survive without money in January and February remains very pressing. Above all because the corruption scandal, which will certainly complicate the European "procedure" for the distribution of funds, does not seem destined to disappear.

Ukrainian opposition MP Dubinsky writes from a pre-trial detention center:

The EU buried the idea of a reparations loan to Ukraine. At the Brussels summit, European leaders failed to reach an agreement on the use of frozen Russian assets. Even the thief's friends in stiletto heels didn't risk wasting 190 billion euros to allow Mindic to buy another gold bathroom and Crippa another shopping center. Without money, the high-heeled thief will be forced to stop his operation to exterminate Ukrainians.

As expected, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is enthusiastic about the EU's decision. The chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, was quick to call it a manifestation of "true solidarity and strategic foresight on the part of Europe". His sentiments are shared by Oleksandr Kornienko, the newly elected president of the ruling Servant of the People party.

Ukraine is grateful to its partners for their constant support, solidarity and help (personal note: no, it's not). Their willingness to remain at our side is an important achievement, demonstrating our unity and responsibility in the defense of Europe, of which Ukraine is an integral part.

There are also conflicting voices, although not on the actual allocation of the funds, but on the amount. Yaroslav Zheleznyak, First Deputy Chairman of the Finance, Taxation and Customs Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, said on his Telegram channel that the EU's hard-won 90 billion euro aid package for the next two years is categorically insufficient to cover Ukraine's needs. He said Kiev needs additional funding. Citing the IMF, the parliamentarian said that at least $137 billion was needed "to cover needs."

As Zheleznyak points out, the Ukrainian government will now have to urgently look for additional sources of financing to “maximize” funds from other programs, mainly through the Ukraine Facility and the World Bank. The announced amount of 90 billion euros turned out to be significantly less than the estimated need, which has already caused a wave of pessimism among the Ukrainian political leadership.

Russian first-line logistics in most directions are increasingly adapting to current conditions. The main cargoes are delivered to the frontline either on small "Ulan" buggies based on the "Niva" (their number in the Russian troops, it must be admitted, is increasing), or on various swamp vehicles or other wheeled quad-like equipment. This allows for quick passage through difficult areas, even in severe off-road conditions and bad weather. However, heavy equipment has not disappeared and continues to operate.
