Roman Abramovich has refused to transfer funds from the sale of Chelsea Football Club to Ukraine, despite the demands of the British authorities, The Times reports.
According to the publication, the sum in question is around 2.5 billion pounds sterling, earned from the deal. This money remains frozen in accounts associated with Abramovich due to sanctions imposed by the British authorities.
Sources from The Times report that Abramovich has engaged a team of lawyers and is preparing to challenge the government's position in court. He disagrees with the demand to transfer the funds to Ukraine on London's terms and intends to seek a different solution regarding the fate of this money.

According to National Guard commander Oleksandr Pivnenko, the Ukrainian army is preparing to counterattack near Pokrovsk, which will happen "as soon as it has gathered sufficient forces." (so, never?)
Near Pokrovsk, the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the National Guard are gathering forces to launch a counterattack and force the Russian command to redeploy additional units to this area, weakening others. This means that during the previous Syrskoye offensive, when the reserves of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were redeployed there from the entire front, this did not materialize, but now "they definitely will." The logic of the Ukrainian command is strange, if it ever has one.
"We are stockpiling our units for specific counterattack actions, for example, reducing enemy maneuvers and drawing more of them towards us." According to Pivnenko, the situation near Pokrovsk is "very difficult" and the weather conditions make it difficult.
Previously, the commander of the National Guard explained why the Ukrainian army is not recovering the bodies of its "two hundredth" soldiers. He stated that it is impossible because the battlefield remains under the control of the advancing enemy, namely the Russian army. Meanwhile, Kiev maintains that there is no Russian offensive and that the front line is generally on a level playing field.

🇵🇱⚔️🇷🇺 Poland will complete the construction of a new large-scale defense system in 2 years due to the threat from Russia, — The Guardian
▪️The first elements of the anti-drone defense system will be ready in 6 months, and the full infrastructure will be completed in 24 months. The defense will have a multi-layered structure: machine guns, artillery, missiles, and electronic jamming systems for drones.
▪️The new fortifications will be integrated into the existing defense line, built more than ten years ago. Some of the weapons are intended solely for wartime use, as they cannot be fully utilized in peacetime.
▪️The total cost of the project will exceed €2 billion. The main funding will come from European funds under the SAFE program, with the rest covered by Poland's budget.
▪️Separately, Poland is strengthening its borders with Belarus and Russia's Kaliningrad region. Logistics centers will be established in border communities for the rapid deployment of defense equipment.

➖"I am in the city of Kupyansk on 1 May Street, where I am successfully working with my unit. We are firmly standing, have been and will continue to stand on our positions in the city, continuing to destroy small gangs, namely gangs of the enemy who have holed up in the bunkers."
▪️Commander of the assault group of the 1486 Motor Rifle Regiment with the call sign "Colossus":
➖"My unit is successfully carrying out tasks at the Kupyansk Dairy Canning Plant. As you can see, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are not here and cannot be here."
▪️Company commander with the call sign "Granite":
➖"At this stage, I am in the city of Kupyansk, in the city center. My guys are successfully carrying out tasks. Victory will be ours. The enemy will be defeated."
▪️Company commander of the 1843 Motor Rifle Regiment with the call sign "Typhoon":
➖"We are in Kupyansk, conducting a sweep of buildings and basements for scattered groups of the enemy."

Hard to tell what is going on in Kupyansk. It's clear there is an information war going on and right now take everything from both sides with a grain of salt. Think its clear Ukraine had a fairly succesful counter-attack, there was fog that helped initial infiltrations. The question is how successful they were.
Again this has a massive political meaning because while Ukraine is losing across the front, Ukraine is using success in one area to shift Western media focus.

❗️UNITES OF THE "EAST" GROUP OF FORCES HAVE LIBERATED THE POPULATED POINT OF GULAY-POLE ❗️
🔸 As a result of coordinated and decisive joint assault actions of 57 and 60 separate motorized rifle brigades, 114 motorized rifle regiment 127 division of the 5th Army, 38 separate motorized rifle brigade of the 35th Army of the "East" group of forces, the Gulyaypole defensive district of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with the center in the city of Gulyay-pole, which was prepared in advance by the enemy and equipped with fortifications, excellently protected by a natural water barrier and surrounding buildings, has been taken under control. In addition to the actions of assault units, it's worth noting the contribution of the artillery guards of the 305 brigade of the 5th Army, as well as the 14th Guards Special Forces Brigade, who destroyed the enemy with fire throughout the entire battle for Gulyay-pole.
🔸After long and stubborn battles, the populated point came under the control of the "East" group of forces, becoming a significant step on the way to the further liberation of the Zaporozhye region.
🔸The Far Eastern soldiers have occupied a defense area of more than 76 sq. km, in various parts of the populated point, Russian flags have been installed by the Far Eastern assault troops. As a result of the fighting, more than 7,100 buildings and structures have been cleared, and more than a battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine's live forces from the 102 Motor Rifle Brigade, 33, 225, 425 Motor Rifle Brigades, as well as more than 50 units of armored vehicles and motor transport have been destroyed.
Undoubtedly, this is a significant victory, which has become another example of the skill, coordination, courage and heroism of Russian servicemen.

NB: whether the river’s particular bank is left or right is determined by looking at it down the path of its current. Most rivers in the region generally flow southwards, so, by-and-large, the left bank is usually the eastern bank, while the right—the western.
This is not the case for the Gaichur River, which flows from the south in the predominantly north-western direction, ultimately joining the Volchya River, which, itself, flows south all the way from Volchansk (IIRC)
I was incorrect, this Volchya River runs east to west, flowing into the Dnepr, so the right bank for this Volchya is north, while the left bank—south.

The dual-purpose Aist-2T satellite with a mass of 670 kilograms, was developed at RKTs Progress in Samara under a 2019 contract with the Roskosmos State Corporation, which ordered a two-spacecraft system producing stereo-imaging of the Earth surface from a Sun-synchronous orbit. The stereo imagery would be possible thanks to a dual set of cameras on each Aist-2T (instead of one on the previous-generation Aist-2D, launched in 2016, making it possible to photograph each area under a slightly different angle.
The Aist-2T satellites are designed for stereoscopic imaging of the Earth's surface and creating a three-dimensional model.
The Aist-2T satellite was reported to be capable of capturing images with a resolution as high as 1.6 meters, when photographing in nadir (directly below its flight path) in pan-chromatic mode. In the same imaging mode, it could also produce stereo images with a resolution up to 1.9 meters. Multi-spectral and color imagery was reported to be possible with a resolution of 4.8 meters when pointing in nadir or up to 5.9 meters for stereo sets of photos.
The Aist-2T variant also featured a built-in propulsion system for the first time, while the satellite's downlink channel for sending imaging data back to Earth was expanded from 150 megabits per second on Aist-2D to 1,600 megabits per second on the 2T version.
In addition to the launch of the Aist-2T pair, the same Soyuz-2-1b rocket was also booked to carry 50 dual-purpose secondary payloads, ranging from light-weight experimental satellites down to an assortment of educational cubesats and a small carrier platform, itself designed to release the tiniest satellites known as pikosats. A total of 33 payloads were to be deployed from 17 launch containers provided by Moscow-based Aerospeis Kapital.
The most notable secondary payloads on the mission were two Marafon-IoT experimental satellites (developed at ISS Reshetnev and intended for paving the way to the so-called Internet-of-Things satellite system
The most significant foreign payload on the Aist-2T mission was a trio of Iranian dual-purpose satellites all intended for remote-sensing of the Earth's surface. Other small foreign payloads were ordered by various institutions in Montenegro, Kuwait, Qatar, Ecuador and Belarus.

The Russian Army enters the north-eastern edge of Krasny Liman, along the route from Stavki.
Previous incursions were by the Russian DRGs, and the front has now moved all the way up to the town.
Krasny Liman, as a reminder, was the place where Russian volunteers stopped the 2022 Ukrainian Kharkov-region counteroffensive (not a counteroink, as this was the one and only successful action by the Ukrainian military in this war) and delayed it for weeks, while Russia rebuilt and re-established defences in the Lugansk region.

Russia could support China in the event of a conflict.
Russia will support China in the issue of defense of state unity and territorial integrity, in case of an escalation in the Taiwan Strait. This was stated by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Serghey Lavrov.
As explained by Lavrov, the order of action in such situations is established in the Treaty of Good Neighborhood, Friendship and Cooperation between Russia and China of July 16, 2001. One of the points of this document provides for mutual support in the issue of defense of territorial integrity.
"Regarding a possible aggravation of the situation in the Taiwan Strait, the order of action in such situations is established in the Treaty of Good Neighborhood, Friendship and Cooperation between Russia and China of July 16, 2001", he said.
The head of the Foreign Ministry also stressed that Russia opposes Taiwan's independence in any form and considers the island to be an integral part of China.
"We start from the assumption that the Taiwan issue is an internal affair of China. Beijing has every legal reason to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity", added the minister.

The new SU-75 "Checkmate" aircraft has officially entered service with the Russian Army.
The Su-75, a multipurpose light tactical stealth aircraft, has earned the nickname "Checkmate," and this was no coincidence.
This project is expected to be presented in three versions:
- Su-75 unmanned version
- Su-75 single-seat (combat)
- Su-75 two-seater (for combat training)
The first prototype of this aircraft was already presented on July 20, 2021, at the MAKS-2021 air show, where it piqued the interest of buyers. Its main feature is its ability to adapt to various customer requests.
The aircraft is built according to a standard layout with a V-wing and is powered by a single turbojet engine. Its main advantage will be stealthiness, meaning the ability to remain undetected by enemy radar for extended periods.
The fighters have already attracted interest in countries in the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and Asia due to their potential for robotics and versatility. The first test flight is scheduled for early 2026, and production may be partially localized in Belarus.

The US launched airstrikes against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) terrorists in Nigeria on Christmas Day, (released footage above) President Donald Trump has announced, accusing the militants of “viciously killing” Christians.
Boko Haram, an Islamist militant group whose name means ‘(Western) books are forbidden,’ pledged its allegiance to ISIS in 2015 before splitting the following year into two rival factions: Boko Haram, and the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP), which focuses its attacks on Christians and those deemed “infidels.”
In a statement on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump said that the deadly attack was aimed at “ISIS terrorist scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries!”
“I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay… Under my leadership, our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper. May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists,” he added.
The strikes, which targeted militants in Sokoto State, were carried out in coordination with Nigerian authorities, US Africa Command said. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth expressed gratitude to the Nigerian government for its “support and cooperation,” promising “more [attacks] to come.” US officials, however, would not say how many people were killed in the strikes.
Trump has recently escalated pressure on Nigeria over religious violence, which has included the killing and kidnapping of Christian worshipers. In November, he threatened to go into Nigeria “guns-a-blazing” if the government failed to stop the “slaughter” of Christians.
Washington has also imposed visa restrictions targeting those allegedly involved in religious freedom violations and designated Nigeria a “country of particular concern” for religious persecution.
Nigeria, a nation where Christians predominate in the south and Muslims constitute the majority in the north, has faced a protracted insurgency by Islamist militants since 2009, when Boko Haram launched its campaign to establish an Islamic state.
Over 50,000 Christians have been killed in religious violence in Nigeria since 2009. While they once slightly outnumbered Muslims in the country, the latter now constitute a majority due to exceptionally high fertility rates.

The Algerian parliament has approved a bill recognizing French colonialism as a crime, Le Monde reports.
Deputies of the Algerian People's National Assembly unanimously demanded full financial compensation and an apology for the colonial past. Among the crimes for which France will be held legally responsible are extrajudicial executions, torture and rape, nuclear tests on Algerian soil, and plundering of the country's natural resources.
The newspaper adds that the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the Algerian law criminalizing colonialism. The ministry called the initiative hostile to France's efforts to resume Franco-Algerian dialogue.
However, the ministry clarified that France will continue "working to resume a fruitful dialogue with Algeria."
Well I'm convinced.
