The first strike against Israel was meant to check which Arab nations would track the attack.

It turned out it was all of them. They took the bait and now they're paying the price.

Insurers told ship owners on Saturday they would cancel policies and raise coverage prices for vessels travelling through the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz after the US and Israel attacked Iran.

War risk insurers on Saturday submitted cancellation notices for policies covering ships moving through the key oil chokepoint, brokers told the FT, with prices set to rise as much as 50 per cent in the coming days.

The unusual move to submit these notices before trading resumes on Monday underscores the pace of escalation after Iran launched retaliatory strikes against US bases across the Middle East.

Cargo war risk insurers — which cover commodities carried on tankers, such as grain and oil — also said that they were preparing to cancel policies on Monday, another broker said.

After cancelling policies, insurers were expected to renegotiate coverage at higher prices, brokers said, rather than denying coverage for ships sailing into the region.

Some ship owners are also turning away from the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s crude oil flows.

This morning I was asked on Boston radio about the US–Israel strikes on Iran.

Here is the strategic reality most people are missing:

Airpower alone has never produced positive regime change.

I don’t mean rarely.

I mean NEVER.

🇷🇺🇺🇦 Russia is ready to accept security guarantees for Ukraine from the USA, – Budanov

- The maximum progress in the negotiations was achieved in the military subgroup: the issue of control over the demilitarized zone was resolved, assures the head of Zelensky's Office, who is recognized as an extremist and a terrorist.

- Peace negotiations are proceeding in parallel with the battles, despite public skepticism about their prospects.

- "Either we find a compromise with Russia on the territorial issue, or we continue to kill each other..." - he added.

- Budanov stressed that he believes in the negotiation process and expects it to be effective.

- "I hope that their success will become our victory," he stated.

⚡️A US attack on Iran could leave Ukraine without missiles for air defense, — Financial Times.

The US and Israel have already used up a significant portion of their interceptor missiles during previous strikes. Tehran's new response will put an even greater strain on these reserves, which are already difficult to replenish.

⚡ Russian Foreign Ministry's Statement regarding military aggression of the United States and Israel against Iran

On the morning of February 28, US and Israeli armed forces carried out airstrikes on the territory of Iran.

The scope and character of the military, political, and propaganda preparations that preceded this reckless step, including the deployment of substantial US military forces to the region, leave no doubt that this is a deliberate, premeditated, and unprovoked act of armed aggression against a sovereign and independent UN member state, in direct violation of the fundamental principles and norms of international law.

It is particularly reprehensible that these strikes are once again being conducted under the cover of the renewed negotiation process, ostensibly intended to secure long-term normalisation of the situation around the Islamic Republic of Iran. This comes despite assurances conveyed to the Russian Side indicating that Israel had no interest in entering into military confrontation with Iran.

The international community, including the leadership of the UN and the IAEA, must urgently deliver an objective and unbiased assessment of these irresponsible actions, which are aimed at undermining peace, stability, and security in the Middle East.

Washington and Tel Aviv have once again embarked on a perilous course that is swiftly pushing the region toward a humanitarian, economic, and potentially even radiological disaster.

The aggressors’ intentions are evident and have been stated openly: to dismantle the constitutional order and remove the leadership of a state they deem undesirable because it has refused to yield to the dictates of force and hegemonic pressure. Responsibility for the impact of this man-made crisis, including the unpredictable chain reaction and the spiral of escalating violence, rests entirely with them.

The grave repercussions of these ill-conceived actions for the global non-proliferation regime, whose cornerstone is the NPT, are being openly disregarded.

Meanwhile, the US-Israeli tandem seeks to cover its actions with a purported concern over preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The bombing of nuclear facilities operating under IAEA safeguards is unacceptable.

Essentially, the motives of Washington and Tel Aviv bear no relation to the objectives of the non-proliferation regime.

Even they cannot but understand that by plunging the Middle East into the abyss of uncontrolled escalation, they are effectively prompting countries across the globe – and the Middle East in particular – to pursue ever more grave means of countering emerging threats.

The sustained and systematic nature of the destabilising attacks, carried out by the US administration against the fundamental principles of the international legal order in recent months, raises particular concern. Among the violated principles are non-interference in internal affairs, the renunciation of the use or threat of use of force, and the peaceful settlement of international disputes.

❗️ We call for an immediate return to a political and diplomatic track. Russia, as always, stands ready to assist in advancing peaceful solutions grounded in international law, mutual respect, and a balanced consideration of interests.

What if the U.S. sent half of its THAAD and SM-3 interceptors to the Middle East? How long could they last under June-level firing rates?

Let’s break it down 🧵

1. THAAD

Total U.S. inventory (post-June 2025) ≈ 384–434

50% forward (BIG assumption) → ~190–215 missiles deployed

2 batteries forward → 96 ready missiles (loaded on 12 launchers)

Remaining ~94–119 missiles = reload stock

2. THAAD daily firing: June tempo = 8–12/day

Ready rounds (96):
8/day → 12 days
12/day → 8 days

Reloads (~94–119):
8/day → 12–15 days
12/day → 8–10 days

Total in-theater endurance: ~2.5–3.5 weeks (16–24 days)

3. SM-3
Total inventory ≈ 414 after June use

50% forward → ~207 missiles

June-level firing tempo ~6–7/day

Forward endurance:

6/day → 207 ÷ 6 ≈ 34 days (~5 weeks)

7/day → 207 ÷ 7 ≈ 30 days (~4 weeks)

4. Forward-deployed THAAD & SM-3 stockpiles are likely smaller than 50% of total inventory, to leave missiles for the Indo-Pacific & other theaters.

THAAD: ~9–11 days if firing rises to ~20/day (roughly double June tempo)

SM-3: ~2 weeks if firing rises to ~15/day

5. Key point: Even a generous forward deployment could be rapidly depleted in a high-intensity conflict.

Forward stockpiles aren’t limitless: THAAD ~10 days, SM-3 ~2 weeks at high-tempo rates. Sustained attacks would stress U.S. missile defense quickly.
