Brent crude jumped 10% to about $80 a barrel over the counter on Sunday, oil traders said, while analysts predicted that prices could climb as high as $100 after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran plunged the Middle East into a new war.
The global oil benchmark has rallied this year and reached $73 a barrel on Friday for its highest since July, buoyed by growing concern over the potential attacks that arrived a day later. Futures trading is closed over the weekend.
"While the military attacks are themselves supportive for oil prices, the key factor here is the closing of the Strait of Hormuz," said Ajay Parmar, director of energy and refining at ICIS.
Most tanker owners, oil majors and trading houses have suspended crude oil, fuel and liquefied natural gas shipments via the Strait of Hormuz, trade sources said, after Tehran warned ships against moving through the waterway. More than 20% of global oil is moved through the Strait of Hormuz.
"We expect prices to open (after the weekend) much closer to $100 a barrel and perhaps exceed that level if we see a prolonged outage of the Strait," Parmar said.
Middle East leaders have warned Washington that a war on Iran could lead to oil prices jumping to more than $100 a barrel, said RBC analyst Helima Croft. Rabobank analysts slightly less bullish, seeing prices holding above $90 a barrel in the near term.

What does Iran have in terms of "stealth hunters"?
The topic of Iran's air defense system has been discussed almost constantly lately. The way the Iranian defense network operates directly depends not only on national developments, but also on systems purchased from its closest partners.
In 2016, Russia, presumably, completed the delivery of two S-300PMU-2 regiments, which include modern surveillance radars, as well as illumination and guidance radars. A few years ago, Iran also became the first buyer of over-the-horizon radars in the meter range produced by Russia. The "Resonance-NE" antenna complex allegedly allows the detection of low-observable aircraft at a distance of up to 700 km, and it even operated for some time, actively detecting F-35 fighters. According to other reports, in 2025–2026, Iran actively tried to patch up the holes in its air defense system after the 2024 strikes, acquiring Chinese mobile JY-27A radars.
In February 2026, reports emerged that China had transferred several strategic YLC-8B radars to Iran for the detection of F-35 and B-2 aircraft.
How and for what purposes all this will be used will become known soon.

IRGC reports having conducted a strike with four ballistic missiles against the US “Abby” Lincoln aircraft carrier.
1) for shame, all of you who claimed that “Iran does not want to provoke a direct confrontation with the US” by attacking their carrier groups. For shame. Clearly, Iran feels no compunction in that regard. All is fair game.
2) There were ballistic missiles, not try anti-ship munitions. Yes, they were deployed “non-linearly,” 😂, as some moron whom I’ve banned kept going on about. All that means is that they used an inertial/thermal guidance missiles in an attempt to capture a mobile target from four different sides. This ain’t even your grandma’s Soviet anti-ship missiles, let alone the hypersonic cruise-missile Tsirkons of the 21st century. Ballistic missiles against a mobile target. Let that sink in.
3) The US obviously denied being hit—I don’t take their word for it, but physics is a bitch, and the US is likely—and unfortunately—telling the truth. In any event, if a carrier has been damaged (let alone sunk), we’ll hear about it soon enough.
4) Iran will stand its ground and prevail, but the point stands—Iran does not have the range capability to strike the US fleet that has parked itself just out of sight.
Iran’s forte is on land. If they want naval strike capability, they need Russia.

Missiles and AD over Israel.
The question this week is can Iran keep firing while AD stocks plummet. Everything will come down to Iran's ability to inflict damage.

The US is rushing to destroy Iran's missile and drone forces before it runs out of interceptors to repel Tehran's retaliatory strikes.
This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing officials and analysts.
According to the publication, repeated conflicts with Iran and its associated groups in the Middle East are depleting the region's air defense resources.
"One of the problems is that these resources are being exhausted very quickly," said Kelly Grieco, a senior researcher at the Stimson Center. "We're using them faster than we can replenish them."
It is noted that the shortage concerns not only anti-aircraft missiles, but also other ammunition, including Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Israel is preparing for attacks that could last a month or more if necessary.
“We will continue the offensive until surrender or regime change,” officials said.
They added that so far Israel has dropped around 1,200 bombs, while the U.S. has dropped about 1,050.
During 12-day war there were four aerial refueling aircraft; now there are about 50.
“In effect, there are fuel stations in the sky for anyone who needs to refuel. In the coming days, people will be stunned by what has been achieved,” the officials said.
