Analysts at Goldman Sachs predict that natural gas prices in Europe could more than double in the event of a halt in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz for at least a month.
This was reported by Bloomberg, citing a report from the bank.
According to experts, about a fifth of the world's liquefied natural gas exports, mainly from Qatar, pass through the strait. A one-month supply pause could lead to a 130% increase in European prices and spot prices for LNG in Asia, to $25 per million British thermal units.
"A hypothetical prolonged interruption of natural gas transit through the Strait of Hormuz lasting more than two months would likely push gas prices in Europe above 100 euros per MWh, triggering a significant drop in global demand," the report said.
Also, amid the crisis surrounding Iran, oil has already risen in price.
