Iran issues a sharply worded statement following the collapse of negotiations that lasted 21 hours in Islamabad:
"The perfidious, evil, and deceitful American enemy sought to achieve through the negotiating table what it failed to accomplish in war.
Iran has decided to reject these conditions and continue the sacred defense of its homeland by all available means, whether military or diplomatic."
This is what the Iranian Revolutionary Guard said, describing the United States as "perfidious, evil, and deceitful," just minutes after Vance boarded Air Force Two.
They claim that the United States demanded that Iran surrender its enriched uranium and relinquish its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran rejected both demands.
This statement was not written after the failure of the negotiations.
Rather, it was written before the negotiations even began.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard had no intention of accepting these conditions, and the phrase "sacred defense by all possible means" is a clear signal of the military wing's return to control over Iran's decision-making process.
