It's possible that the demonstrated model is just a prototype, and the actual mass-produced product will return to standard sizes, but the concept of an ultra-small drone is extremely promising: it allows for the mass production of thousands of units suitable for sabotage and counter-sabotage operations.
Something similar was attempted in the West a few years ago, but the project stalled. The Western concept was overly complicated: engineers tried to create a universal amphibious platform capable of operating on water, in semi-submerged mode, and as a fully underwater drone. The Vietnamese approach, however, turned out to be much simpler, more pragmatic, and cheaper to implement.
